This is genius! I still struggle to draw faces quickly, so this is really helpful. And love the use of purples for shadows. Also happy to see the Signo white gel pen. I don't know why people always recommend the Sakura Gelly Roll instead. To my mind at least, the Sakura is deeply inferior to the Signo for decent solid whites.🙂

Thanks! I think starting with a grid can be good, but intuition and freestyle drawing is best. When you are struggling to correct your work, go back to these techniques… when you outgrow them, move along

This is very helpful. I like the four dots idea. But how do you get the proportions and shapes for the initial outline?
@SketchingScottie
@SketchingScottie Жыл бұрын
The initial outline was from straight from observation, with the 'tear drop' shape of the head in mind. But please try drawing the tear shape in pencil first if that gives you a better start. This was something that I could have included in the tutorial in hindsight! 😊

Finished the 6 wk Ian Roberts composition class with using pencil for learning value breaking up a drawing, and the Love Live gesture 7 day challenge. and I was looking for a portrait tutorial. My goal is to have a simple one that can be used as I start painting with people in landscape. and get closer to the people as I move forward.

Hola, soy de Catalunya, España. Me ayudan mucho tus consejos. para mi es muy dificil dibujar personas. me cuestan las proporciones, la forma en los movimientos. la cara. Me gustan tus dibujos simples. Lastima que no se ingles y he de ir leyendo los subtitulos y me pierdo como vas dibujando. Pero todo y así, me gusta mucho seguirte. Esta muy bien tu manera de hacer proporciones. Muchas gracias.

Thanks for this. Re: your uniball pen, how to you keep the tips flowing freely? Mine are a source of frustration in that they seem to get clogged up quickly, though l shake, soak, rattle and roll.
@SketchingScottie
@SketchingScottie 11 ай бұрын
My Uniball pens don't seem to have that issue at the moment. It could be the paper you're using? They flow a bit better on the Stillman & Birn beta series sketchbook I'm using than other paper I've tried. Also I have been storing them upside-down in a glass jar which keeps them running smoothly 👍🏼

Hi Mary! There are two features that I work on to make my faces look more feminine. The jaw line should be more of a 'V' shape with a slightly pronounced small chin (A man has more of a 'U' shape jaw). Then the next is adding darker top eye lashes 👍🏼
