I’m certainly not a chameleon expert (otherwise I wouldn’t be watching your videos 😂), but I know enough that I can’t help but get upset every time I see that damn chameleon kit. I’ve been shopping around on FB marketplace, OfferUp and Mercari for a 2 x 2 x 4 in decent shape, and if I had a dollar for every time I saw that very same kit up for re-sale, I’d have enough to get a second panther chameleon. All this tells me is that there are a staggering number of chams sold to unwitting owners in completely inappropriate enclosures with practically no UVB. And that of course means lots of sick and/or dead chameleons. On a more a positive note! Fantastic video as always. Neptune looks so big compared to some other videos I’ve seen him in! I’ve been watching these “chameleon owner mistake” videos a lot since yesterday. I’ve finally settled on a baby panther and I’m terrified I’ll mess this up. This anxiety is normal, right? Haha

Right now, I'm using half real (pothos and umbrella) and half fake (plastic and silk) plants in my veiled cham's current temporary cage. I watched him forever worried he'd try eating the fake ones. This little guy touches the leaves with his foot first. If its fake he leaves it alone and finds a live one to take a bite from. But he prefers to drink from the plastic ones. Found that interesting so thought I'd share! Regardless, I do agree with you. Once his large cage built is done he will only have living plants.

My misting schedule is 1to 3 mins in the morning 30 minutes before lights turn on. 2 to 4 minutes 30 minutes after lights go out . The main thing I avoid doing is misting while lights are on. The reason is they like hot dry daytime & cooler high humidity at night. I try to replicate the morning dew in my setup. As weird as it sounds, my chameleon drinks from my hand mister as if it's a water fountain. She only does it about 50% of the time, but if I set the nozzle to a solid water stream and only squeeze the trigger very gently, and aim the stream right in front of her face, she will sit there and drink for quite a minute
@Kitsune19893 жыл бұрын
See I have one of those double bulb setups BUT I use one side for basking light and the other for just heat at night (it gives off no light at all, it screws in like a bulb but acts the same way as a heatpad just not anywhere near as hot.) It's been getting very cold here at night, much more so then normal. And I started to notice he took longer to get up to the basking bulb. After I had to physically go in and lift him to his bulb (despite morning temps being in the normal range) I got a bulb strictly to heat at night with no light output. (To be clear it's not one of those red bulbs 'for night time use' but an actual heat source. Since it sits on top and he sleeps at the bottom on his pothos, it's useful to ensure the night temps don't get too low (it's very low temp not like a heatpad keeps the ambient temperature at appropriate 'nighttime temps'. He still gets that dip at night it just doesn't get so cold so as be dangerous.) I find it cheaper then heating the whole room since that room has drafty windows and it also means that I can set different nighttime temps for different reptiles in my reptile room that might need a higher night temp or a dryer environment at night. It also means that with the addition of things like misters and foggers I can more easily mimic the natural weather patterns. My last panther lived 10 and a bit years. I'm currently working on a programming system that will work with the weather app to duplicate the current weather conditions/temp of the area my new panther (and the rescue veiled I found) live in rather then having to manually do it each day.
@NeptunetheChameleon3 жыл бұрын
Glad you found a system that works for your chameleon and environment :) For anyone still learning who is reading this: It's normal for chams to slow down a bit during winter. Here is my recent video on heat sources at night: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3W2iWWZfdOrjsk

I would like to point out buying someone a chameleon as a surprise gift is a very bad idea unless that person knows everything on what to get my parents bought me one for my birthday and while I knew most of what I needed to know they buy a kit instead of everything separately like I would have preferred and that led to me having to buy a bunch of stuff to fill out the cage and make sure he could hide and get the proper humidity ect. If anything I think you should take the person your getting the chameleon for on the trip so they can tell you exactly what you would need to buy them for the chameleon to live a happy healthy stress free life.
