Thank you for introducing me to chameleons. I keep fancy rats, which are exotic pets. I have an excellent exotic vet nearby and I'm thinking of adding a chameleon. I live in a temperate rainforest climate, British Columbia Vancouver. Im retired so can spend lots of time with them.

Mine was doing absolutely terrific, but hot sick and just before 1 year anniversary of bringing him home. I had my enclosure meet every standard he needed, heat, uvb, plants to hide in, etc. But as of recently, he's seemed colder even though the temp is warm enough for him, so he's been lying on his side to heat up. He's also lost his appetite, which seems dehydrated even though he's gets a drink every hour. He's also turned a rather bright yellow and hasn't changed back. (Not his normal color) He's been sleeping most times during the day, only every moving to move somewhere else and sleep some more. He has a weak grip, as described in this video. I wish so much that he can recover on his own, I can't go to a reptile vet. The closest one is 1 hour away from me, and I can not legally drive. I don't think he may have much time before he goes, I love him to death. I wish there was something I could do more for him, but I'm quite sure I've followed the rule book, every video I could find, to the exact. I don't want to see him go. But I don't think there is much I can do without a vet that I could go to.

My Chameleon isn't eating, like at all. It's been like that for a few days. I've also noticed him sneezing when handling him, usually hell only sneeze once so I don't know if that's a concern. I'd also like to mention that he really likes being handled, he rushes towards me when I open his cage and usually stays with me for 30 minutes or an hour before wanting to go back. I don't know if he should be out that long, I've had him for three months almost and this happens almost everyday. Is this a concern?

I have a video about not eating that you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZKmlnyhhqpkntk. Between the sneezing, not eating, and wanting to come out it definitely sounds concerning. Oh no, i hope hes doing good now since your last comment posting, im a little late for your reply! Buuuut I recommend starting out with some (20 usually)crickets that come in a lil cute box at petco/petsmart or buy max 40 crickets a day and have them roam the cage, usually the little box will have cricket food or water , and within a week your Chameleon will eat them up, the crickets keep themselves alive and clean , and slowly go up on the count of crickets to your liking depending how often you want to visit your store, I'd just check the Chameleon once in awhile because crickets are carnivores, so they will clean up the cage if there are any dead bugs or cricket's as well and they could nibble your Chameleon by chance if the crickets have no good, but they will most likely go at each other first. Treat the crickets with respect like they are little pets too with food water and a mini place to hide as well and sleep. This way the Chameleon will have to hunt for their food keeping them active too. The box describes crickets as juicy morsels, I stay away from hornworms because of their sharp claws and teeth. I learned that I can keep 40 crickets and it will last me about a week or more, and the crickets are easy for him to eat, they are not combative and damaging from what I saw. I probably will use the meal worms only for to coat their calcium vitamin powder feeding once a week or so, I noticed that if I powdered the crickets they would die within the day because the powder is so sticky they will be immobile etc suffocate etc, so I only powder things that will be eating within the hour etc. Do Not poeder the crickets! Let them thrive in your cage etc unless it's like a few and they are meant to be eatin within the hour because they will not live with the sticky vitamin powder made for Chameleons to eat. I hope this helps! Find me on tiktok for more questions you have ! @bubbletron3000 , I hope he gets better

Ohh boy. This one is a biggie. I have commented a couple times this past month about a 5-6 year old male Vieled I took in from a neighbor who could no longer take care of him. He 100% has metabolic bone disease and falls constantly. It scares me, and I always check to make sure all his ribs and legs are in order. In the month I have had him in correct conditions, he has gotten stronger, but I worry his grip will never be what it should. I put as many twigs as I could to help him catch himself, though I am considering even putting a towel on the bottom of his cage for cushioning (I'll just have to switch it out and wash it every day or two). Also I just learned that his old owners were ONLY supplementing him with D3 calcium. Every time he ate, for four years. Thats... too much from what breeders have told me. However, he didn't have a lot of UVB that whole time so maybe it made up for that?? Not sure, I'll have to do some bloodwork for him. He is currently on antibiotics for a URI as well. So far he is an absolute trooper and super friendly. Because he is so old, and I am not exactly swimming in cash, I am just trying to make him as comfortable as possible while treating the most serious issues first. I wish I could snap my fingers and reverse 4 years of mistreatment, however that's just unsustainable (and unrealistic). So keep your fingers crossed for Jingo! His fecal tests just came back negative for anything, and he's quite hydrated!

My chameleon had the wrong lights, and he started getting sick, we've since corrected his enclosure to the t! And he's coming back, he had no uvb, and a blue 60 watt light, we are new chameleon parents, and as soon as we noticed the change we researched and corrected everything. We are hand-feeding and giving him water, he's started going to his dropper for water and his tongue is starting to come back out, his strength is building and his eyes are alert. The only two symptoms he has in this video are the tongue and his strength isn't back for climbing yet, we are giving him supplements and doing everything correctly, my question is, is it possible for him to make a full recovery? His colors look great, his teeth and skin look healthy, we have him on two hammocks so he's up higher and can bask, and hide, and not fall as he regains his strength. He's doing so much better since we've figured out something was wrong and fixed it that day, which was about a week ago. Do you think our lil Greenbean will come full circle?

I have not had a reptile in 25-30 years. I recently took the wife and kids to a reptile swap, thought itd be neat for them. Ended up with an impulse buy of an adult veiled. I had no idea of the requirements and got the biggest enclosure they had left there which was wst too small, 24x12x24. Within a few days id went to Petco and purchased the dreaded "chameleon kit" 18x18x36. After doing more research, i.e. watching neptune and chameleon academy mostly, i ordered a zoomed 24x24x48 its not ready yet though. I redone the kit cage like 10 times the last month. Im trying to keep him as happy as i can in the smaller enclosure while i get the larger one ready. Ive got live plants, plenty of sticks and vines, a good uvb, etc. Not 100% on the bulbs, still waiting on my uvi meter. I even have a 6.5ft fake tree when im home its connected with a vine and the foor open so he can roam freely. When hes in the enclosure he tries getting out, rubbed his nose raw, and turns very, very dark. As soon as i open it he starts turning normal colors again. I wouldnt care leaving it open more, but sometimes he likes running down the tree and into the kitchen. Is the size bothering him that much, or am i missing something in there, and can i put anything on his nose to help it heal? Hes a fascinating animal, i want to keep him happy, but its been a very busy and expensive 5 weeks since i got him and getting discouraged. Lol $75 animal, 20 hours research, 40 hours on enclosure building, and $1500 on cages, lights, drippers, misters, and uvi meters. Also anyone know a good place to order a stand for a 24x24x48? I havent found anything that really fits what im looking for.
