i seriously needed this. i’m going to be a freshman and my commute is an hour (i didn’t want to live on campus because ✨debt✨) and i was honestly feeling so bummed, but it makes me feel better that other people do it too and actually like it. hopes for the best 🤞

Heyy I'm in the same boat I'm so scared beacuse my commute is an hour to. I did it for financial reasons as well. And I'm scared freshman year I'll have a hard time making friends.

Same here. I'm also a freshman but ain't gonna live at campus because of same reason, debt. It's 80 min travel time one way( by train) and I'm thinking wheather to join that University, or join a local college for a degree that I'm not that much interested in. But it feels good to know that there are people who are doing it.

I'm going to be a junior and have an hour commute. I look at the bright side. It helps to make music playlists or listen to a bunch of podcasts on the way. Also bringing snacks. Also getting involved in campus organizations can help to make you feel like you're apart of the campus life. It can feel like a lot if you have a long commute but remember in the end you won't have all that debt from living on campus.

Thanks I needed this video. I live 35 minutes from my university and decided to commute. Especially the part about the meal plan i was confused on if I need one my school has cheaper plans for commuter students

This video is absolutely great Kristina! I know for me personally, I’ve been a residential student all my time in college since I live over an hour away from my school and is just more convenient for me lol. I’ve told this to students when I was an orientation leader for new students last year, but I think it’s so important that commuter students still find ways to get involved within their campus community and by going to these events, you can make a lot of friends! I love being able to help others, so if any commuters have any questions, Kristina is definitely a great resource and I can try and help as best as possible with new students as I will be a orientation leader for new students again! I'm gonna be a freshman in the fall and my commute should be like 45 minutes and I think it's a smart financial decision considering the proximity of the school but everyone outside of my family, even my friends, make me feel so weird... i think it's a good decision to commute if it's doable

I will start studying again in september and decided to commute by train (1h30 so 3 hrs per day). I’m a bit scared for the mornings (train at 6:25am) and meal prepping (3 meals a day) but I’m motivated to make it work :)

i’m a bit late here but in two days i’m starting my first year of college and i’m commuting. it’s about 2 hours to get there, 2 to get back. i am very scared but i hope i can prove myself that i can do it!

Have a lot of quarters, other change, for tolls (turnpikes), vending machines and laundry facilities. This advice may not be relevant with ID cards with balances on them. But, it is good to be prepared!
