What kind of trees are you able to maintain and keep on a balcony? Without them growing too large?
@rickytorres9089 Жыл бұрын
@@MadelineDoll Almost any trees can be maintained to their respective sizes. Your usual Mango tree for example may MAX out at 60 feet. But you don't HAVE to let it grow anywhere NEAR that. Some professional farmers even intentionally farms them at as little as 8 feet! In order to actually secure harvests from pests, falling literally exploding mangoes and so forth!
@rickytorres9089 Жыл бұрын
I like how you shared that, people think you can't grow trees, shrubs, etc in an apartment setting/indoors, etc. At least without hybrids/graftings. None of that is true at all. Even from seeds' (most seeds will work decently enough, there are exceptions but very fewer than you might think), with the right management tatic, airy containers, etc you can even grow more popular trees like mangoes, peaches, apples, plums, coffee, etc.
@djpamdemonium Жыл бұрын
@@rickytorres9089 I have peach, fig, mango, plum and even a couple of grape vines. I've gotten fruit from all of them and am so happy to get at least a few and do cut my trees back. I even heard you can take them out of the containers and give the roots a trim. At this point its an experiment thats working.

Lindy Huey they aren’t to heavy I’ve tried it before too. What you want to do though is monitor the cucumbers and when they hit the heavy stage make them sling out of panty hose. Or old onion bags and tie that back up to the base of the basket.
@GardeningInCanada4 жыл бұрын
Lindy Huey I do heavily suggest lining the pear baskets though to conserve water so you don’t have any dry out scenarios. I typically utilize recycled plastic bags. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j17ZhKWjrbeGe5I

I live in the country on 2 acres of land and I still have to garden on my deck. I have a major deer infestation (lol) and they eat everything I plant...So this is a great video for anyone who needs to keep their plants off of the ground, not just apartments.
@rickytorres9089 Жыл бұрын
Had you tried throned plants, even as a preliminary defense mean? Native plantings might do well for this. Padded catcus for example, grow QUITE vigorously if kept well and consistently moisten (ironically I know) and the soil surronding them enriched with organic matters just like the rest of the soil.

living with my parents, I started to garden and as someone who is the first in the family to try to grow their own garden for tea (huge tea enthusiast) and cooking, I've decided to try it and see what I can do. I've seen all over the internet about what is good soil and what is a good fertilizer and some others have contradicted that. I've had to sow my herbs from seed and I'm waiting for them to germinate (started them directly in their containers on the 12th of April 2021) and the gardening community has just been so kind and so informative! some think for a young man to get into gardening that they are interested in growing pot but that is quite the opposite. so my starting herbs are lemon balm, spearmint, and cilantro. I'm going to be growing them indoors and I think it would be nice for in my room to have some plant life and the smells of the oils cleaning up my room. my soil choices were limited but I was advised that Miracle-Gro's moisture control potting mix is great for the herbs and so I had to get them. the mint i was recommended from bonnie to use the inorganic miracle-gro all-purpose but I have seen that was more expensive than the miracle-gro performance organic edibles mix and according to the site of miracle-gro, the organic one is specifically for veggies and herbs. what herbs I don't know but I guess I will find out. I think what I'm going to do is when it comes to feeding time, I'm going to put in a half dose of what is recommended and if the plants need more ill go a quarter up since from my research these herbs don't need that much feeding for the most part. I don't want to give them too much so they go all outgrowing in size rather than potency but we'll see how this goes. kinda nervous but also kinda excited at the same time. thank you so much for having the idea of a channel for growing veg and herbs and being honest with all of your tips and advice! it's because of people like you that I can make this dream closer than if I were alone!

Have either of you found solutions? I dont have a balcony either, and so not a bunch of light I can get plants> i really want to start
@BrookeGlaser2 жыл бұрын
@@EliB0217 Honestly? Just try with the light that you have! If you've got a window sill that's wide enough you can use some of the planter boxes in this video. if not, you can maybe try a hanging pot in the window, either hung from the ceiling, the curtain rack, or you can get a mobile wardrobe rack and hang plants from there. Depending on how much light you actually do get, there's lots of indoor plants that don't actually need much light. And many herbs that you can easily grow inside (basil is a great one!). Don't be afraid to experiment and just try things. Every 'failed' attempt with a plant will be a lesson you learned and will help you with all the rest of your plants. Go for it!

Congrats on 500k! ❤️ and a tip for the coconut liners...here in north TX it gets hot and windy so they dry out fast. I use a plastic grocery bag with slits cut in the bottoms to fill with soil and set in them, then trim off whatever plastic sticks out over the top. Still gets enough drainage but I can water once a day instead of 3 times since it dries out slower.

Kevin, I recently discovered your channel and I just wanted to say that your videos are amazing! I've watched so many -- they are very informative and helpful for me since I live in an apartment :) I just bought your book to support you. Thanks for doing what you do!
