Since I was a teen it's been one of my dreams. I had started a few years back but a cat. 5 hurricane came, knock down my house so I had to move. Kept trying in the different house that I moved to but no luck, had issues with not enough sun little due to no balcony, too humid or no space. But I have my heart set on trying again this year

I love Natalie! Short gardeners unite lol. I'm also 5'2" and I have grow bags. I have grown all kinds of things in them. I will say I made the mistake of getting 20 gallon and they are too big and heavy to move most of the time. I like the 10 gallon ones better. 15 gallon should be the max size if you plan on moving the bags frequently. One of my questions is how does she cheaply fill the bags? Garden dirt can get pretty expensive and filling all those containers can get pretty expensive.

Bernie Cat, 36 years ago, I started with a very small area, maybe 4' x 6', maybe a tad bit larger. I placed containers around the outer part of that area. I had Gardenia and Rose bushes, and a few other things in the ground. I grew various tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cucumber in the containers. It was sooo much fun! I was amazed by what I could grow. And I LOVED that little garden, my first. I only grow in containers. You, too, can do this. Start small with only 6 containers maximum. Have fun, and Enjoy the experience.

Natalie's garden is such an inspiration and reminds me a lot of my own! I'm still living with my parents while in college so my garden is a bit limited and a lot in containers but one of the first things I added was backyard livestock: coturnix quail and rabbits. I think raising your own meat, if you can handle it, is such a good step towards self sufficiency and it feels great to have that kind of connection with where your food comes from. Rabbits (and also quail!) are such a great sustainable meat and fertilizer source if you can get over how cute they are. Loved the garden and interplanting tips, and seeing all the rabbit stew ingredients!

I love her garden! Inspired by Epic Gardening and Jacques I have added a few flowers to the garden this year and I was so busy I had no time to label my plants so thinking I was planting sunflowers (I learned which ones to use from Epic Gardening) here and there, I planted some funny kind of tomatoes instead. (Seeds were a gift from a friend). Interplanting by coincidence. Our neighbour now has problems with his beautiful tomato plants being slayed by mole crickets, and trying to google out a solution for him I learned that my somewhat chaotic gardening with flowers all over and different types of plants growing together creates an environment where mole crickets don't want to live.

I hope she has her homesteading dreams come true. I bet watering all those containers takes a long time and probably almost everyday. I like to direct sow lots of seed i.e. like 50 dill seeds in a 6inch circle and make use of the excess as microgreens as I thin them back, they don't have much of a problem growing that way early on making use of empty space, obviously they will get overcrowded and have circulation issues eventually if you don't remove all but one per area. My dill patches look like little 6 inch or so bushes, they kinda support each other from watering and wind damage at early stage and put roots in the ground avoiding bare soils asap.

Hashtag goals. I'm also confined to container gardening for now, because I'm not at a permanent residence, and the owners won't take care of a garden/raised beds once I leave (plus I worry about it lowering the home value when they go to sell). I'll have to see about putting some flowers in my containers, but I mostly have 4 and 5 gallon buckets. If you have friends with cats, though, ask for their empty litter containers. Prime source of free buckets, and they fit together better, being square!

Loved this video and that garden is beautiful,.we are alot alike I am 5.2 weigh only 110 and grow everything just like this! Heres a great tip .. You can get dirt delivered from a local plant nursery they will fill your truck for you here it is only 28.00 for a scoopful from their bulldozer..cheap! you buy it by the bag its 8.00 a cubit foot or two! enough to only fill one of those grow bags..spaking of grow bags I got all of mine 10 gallon on Ebay for only 19.00 for 15 of them! I also got 7 gallon bags for 15.oo for 12 bags..but you can put multiple plants in one bag! Cheap way to garden along with the cheap totes!

I expanded my raised beds with about 30 grow bags. They have been working great. I mostly use 7 gallon bags each with a single plant in them. (seeing this I will probably try putting two in each, add a carrot or radish or beet) I have a few 5 gallon ones for smaller plants or plants that will grow very large but dont have insane root systems like pumpkins. I have a few 10 gallon bags for potatoes. I also have two massive grow bags, I think they are 50 gallons, but shallow, a little higher then a foot and I have one filled with all my herbs, and the other has cucamelons & peas growing around the outside with radishes, lettuce and garlic growing in the middle. I have found grow bags to be super useful in comparison to the raised beds that came with my place, easy to move (except the 50 gallon ones) easy to water and fertilize. The raised beds at my place just used the dirt already in the backyard so they are full of clay and the stuff I planted there does grow, just about 1/4 the speed of whats in my grow bags. Ive been slowly digging out a foot deep of the clay filled dirt and replacing it with new compost and triple mix soil as I harvest the plants that were already in there and its really helped, things in those spots growing far faster now. Man I wish I had a warmer climate to grow some of those fruits here in cold canada and have a longer growing season. Would also love the USA's 1st & 2nd.

This is pretty much exactly what I want to do with my garden….I just need to get more comfortable planting things together! She’s got so much packed into some of them, I didn’t realize you could do like 4-5 plants in one large container

Amazing garden and very inspiring. She can really run on three plant per pot rule, versus especially the three sisters or companion planting.

When a boy--in PDX--I learned that, the Birdseye cannery liked the Marshall strawberry because, with the Marshall they did not need to add sugar!! And, in doing just a little research on this I found that--if I remember correctly--the department of agriculture with the Oregon State University, maintains Marshall strawberry plants, . . .
