Retiring in 20 years? Due to inflation, you may need upward of $3.6million to maintain your existing lifestyle, with the ongoing effect of high inflation, lower forecasted stock market returns or value, and stagnant wages. Achieving a secure early retirement could be more challenging than ever before.

An obvious way to invest for a recession is to buy shares in businesses that are likely to experience steady demand even in a downturn. Typically, those are consumers staple, utilities and healthcare companies. But of course, such decisions can’t be made by an average joe, a financial advisor is highly recommended in making this decisions..

You are right! Such considerations can certainly have a role, when I think about whether I ought to buy shares but I never purchase purely on that basis. I always have to seek the advice of my financial advisor who has help me gain over $1m in a well diversified portfolio that has experience exponential growth.

This is the only channel who preferred nps over mutual funds. People don’t understand that same mutual fund companies are under nps. NPS is the lowest fund all over the world. I am investing heavily in nps for my retirement

What about annuity plan in NPS which you have to compulsorily purchase with minimum of 40% of your total corpus which will be given to you monthly as pension ( check annuity calculators you will get to know pension is very less amount) . You have access to maximum 60% corpus only which is not a good thing. On most annuity plans we get max 4-5% returns only.

NPS in the investment period is good. It invests in equity and debt. But the problem is the pension part. 40% investment will be in annuity. And annuity rates are linked to G-sec rates. So after 25-30 yrs. Annuity rates will be around 2-3% only. And you will have to take it. You have no other option.

Also, investing in NPS defeats the whole purpose here because the title says 5crore at 50, but you can't withdraw from NPS before 60 and that too maximum 60% where 20% amount is taxable. So wrong calculations and comparisons.
@adjadhav

Thanks Rahul Jain. You could consider the expense ratio for the mutual funds. That might dent the calculations. Will be interesting to see this inclusion

5% in international equity... What difference it will make even if it gives a superreturn. Considering it's tax treatment it's an unnecessary clutter. Elss category is also almost redundant and don't know how you reconcile it with index fund.

The assumption with which we started was 7% return on corpus of 5 Cr. But as of today, we have to buy Annuity with 40% NPS corpus & Annuity returns are in the range of 5-6% even today, after 20% would be probably in the range of 3-4%. Since we are investing 50% amount in NPS for 20 years, I guess we will end up purchasing Annuity of 1-1.25 Cr which will definitely lower overall returns. Plus, assuming 12% returns from NPS for 20 years, may itself be disastrous. Near retirement, preferably one should start moving considerable corpus to safe/ non- linked investments, to avoid sequence of returns risk. I guess life can not be exactly defined on an excel sheet.

You are wrong about taxation on NPS. It is taxable. Only exempted limit is when a person withdraws just 40% at the age of 60, but if they withdrew 60%, then the remaining 20% is taxable.

Useful but I think inflation has to be considered on the higher side and also the likelihood of finding fix return instrument that will give 7% is less unless we put in big some in next 5-6 years into some pension scheme - I don't have much hopes from 40% that would go into pension at my age of 60. Hope you make a video on considering this aspect

Good informative video. However if you ask me personally I would not worry about higher capital gain tax if I am gettting a potential scope of growth in mutual funds. There are mutual funds which are growing more than 15% per year. I would not restrict myself to just 12% in NPS and would like to explore growth more than 15% with mutual funds.

I think an NPS subscriber can only withdraw the money from its corpus post turning 60 years of age. That also 40% min has to be bought into an annuity, so not sure how investing in NPS will help achieve financial freedom aka Rs. 5 Cr by age 50? Please elaborate or revisit with a new video.
