Stephanie Mazvita yeah greases are definitely gonna be part of my routine . There couple of things that made me retain length.I was drinking at least 1L of water a day and taking hair , nail and skin supplements , I also took jelly cubes as it a cheaper alternative to collagen supplements but works in the same way. Also I would put my hair in a bun and not take it out or wash if for 2 weeks .Hope this helps

You're speaking truth about grease and mineral oil. I keep telling people the following that think grease can cause cancer: "If grease causes cancer, then we would all have been dead long before now. Like, when we were little girls." My mama used mineral oil on myself and my siblings from birth up until we could apply our own lotion and we all have no wrinkles and beautiful skin to this day. She also used grease and a spray bottle with water on my sister & I and our hair was moisturized, healthy & long. These people forget where they came from and set themselves up to fail. Grease and mineral oil is life.

Hi i have a tip for your low porosity hair, i came up with it myself but i seen a youtuber with it recently after you wash your hair, and apply your warm water + leave in conditioner or cream, put on a shower cap, as if you’re deep conditioning, the leave in - cream will have time to sink in and fully penetrate your hair. i keep my cap on for 10 mins- 30 mins to even an hour sometimes, before i seal everything with my hair grease. maximum moisture, tons of softness, long lasting moisture and manageability. i especially do this before a protective style, i go through this process twice (day one day two)and then i section off my hair and put in my protective style, after 7 weeks my hair is still soft and moisturized, im a high porosity girl but my sister and mom both have veeeery shiny low porosity hair (it takes super long before their hair starts absorbing water) and it works for them as well.

Ladies...We all need to listen to Ms. Zara. She knows what she speaks. If we would just sit back, close our eyes and reflect back on what our granny and mother's used to put on our hair when we were younger, we would see that what Ms. Zara is speaking of is what our ancestors used. Think of your hair and how beautiful it felt and looked when they finished our hair. GREASE AND WATER was their concoction. Petroleum is natural and is found in the Earth. It's structure is TOO LARGE to clog our pores yet PERFECT as a sealant for length retention. Mineral oil is derived from petroleum. We use mineral oil EVERYDAY, ex: baby oil, Vaseline when we moisturize our skin. If it doesn't clog our skin when we moisturize but rather keeps the moisture in then realistically it WILL NOT clog our scalp. Ladies grease, petroleum, mineral oil is not our enemy. These products actually will help us all in retaining the moisture that our natural hair so desperately need. Now remember when we were younger, when grease was used, our hair was probably relaxed so moisture stayed in longer but not that we are natural then it just takes more effort to keep in the moisture because our hair is not chemically altered. Sometimes we try to fix something that was never really broken. #onmywayBACKtowaistlengthhair #grease4life

The sooner black women realize that we cannot use the same product as the next person the better chance they will have at length retention. I started making my own leave in and shampoo. She is right about soap not sure what kind she uses but I make my shampoo out of pure black African soap and that works for my hair.

Can you do a video on your favorite deep conditioners that contain these “nasty” ingredients?? I love this video so much! Im decluttering my hair products and notice all of the natural hair products do the same thing and dries your hair out within hours. I often noticed most of these brand owners hair are short, often average looking, and nothing spectacular like their product says. Im over consumerism and product reviews. Im taking it back to the basics, water, grease, shampoo, and conditioner. No need to have 80 stylers and 50 curling cremes!

I have naturally high porosity hair & mineral oil is great at keeping the moisture in for waaaaaaayyyy longer than my plant oil mixtures. I just keep it off my scalp since I like to using other treatments there. But my hair is super easy to detangle & super moisturized at a level shea butter just cannot do. Excellent sealant for my fragile ends! 👍

I would stay away from mineral oil as a moisturiser because I used L’Oréal live in with mineral oil and my hair was rock hard. I could immediately identify that. May be as a sealant but I use silicones in everything. That works better for me. I agree @natural is better. That’s a lie. I agree with you. Changed my deep conditioner to one that isn’t 98% organic and it was a time and life saver. In all I agree with you. People should just try everything and eliminate it themselves and stop listening to people.

You gave me the push I needed to go back to grease after years of not being able to retain moisture. I had the idea floating in my head for 1yr and a half; but was purposefully putting it off. Just fearful it would block moisture and make my hair a wreck (even though it didn’t when my mom was doing my hair lol)...Big f’ing myth as you pointed out in your video. My hair holds moisture so well now and even when I re-moisturize after having applied grease, my hair holds on to it and keeps it for days. It’s like it heals my strands, some how...I was shocked. This definitely was the missing link. WAY less breakage omg. Strands feel stronger, smoother, hydrated; and look and feel thicker!

My mom would use wild root and pink hair lotion on the very ends of mine and my sister's hair and it kept it long, thick and healthy. We also used dabur amla oil and henna paks from the middle eastern store since we were muslim. The main ingredient for dabur hair oil is liquid paraffin. I use petroleum based products on my skin every day and we use Petroleum and dimethicone lotions in the hospital because they are inert and are some of the safest products for fragile and compromised skin. I would say to just keep them off of your scalp because they can cause sweat and oil to become trapped against your scalp and cause the hair follicle to become clogged and damaged.

I am glad that you bought up how oils did not hold the moisture in your hair as well as the grease. That was a big issue I was having when using "natural" products and since my hair seemed to be in a constant state of dryness, I suffered from constant breakage and splitting. It was an endless cycle of trying to add moisture back into my hair on a daily or every other day basis and it felt the way it looked, dry asf. Edges was all jacked up and my scalp was an itchy mess. Because I would have to do those things on an daily basis, I would have to wash my hair more often which also leads to dryness. Sometimes it itched so bad I thought I had a colony of fleas living in there and just couldn't see them. Since going back to using grease over the winter, I've had 0 issues with itchy scalp, mass breakage and split ends. My edges have filled in nicely and most of all I don't have to be in my hair daily. I can get through a whole 7 days before having to add moisture back into my hair and restyle, and products last me a lot longer. My hair also thickened up which is a plus and I equate that to me not having to be in it that often and less dryness which is allowing those broken hairs to grow out, and less split ends in with fairy knots.

What I love about your grease videos Efik is that you base them on actual science/facts. A lot of natural hair KZbinrs say that mineral oil/grease/petrolatum is bad, can give one cancer, etc. when there's literally no proof that it's as extremely harmful as they say. It doesn't make sense because these products would not be on the market, or would have long been off the market, and our loved ones would have long been gone if that was the case! The proof is how our hair has responded to grease for generations!! Not that it has to be or is for everyone, but overexaggerating things that aren't true is just wrong. Anyway, my hair has never responded well to liquid grease like Pink Moisturizer, like that one especially leaves a weird film on my hair that I don't like and it weights it down and makes it look dull, BUT not gonna lie, the smell of it is nostalgic! 🥰

Thorough cleansing and moisturizing are key for using synthetic sealants. A lot of this information came from the Curly Nikki/Curly Girl Method era of natural hair. We were just trying to get it right. Honestly, we just didn't know how to clean our strands. When it comes to synthetics, my hair *loves* grease but hardens and dries with mineral oil lotions. It's like the product is solidify on my hair. It's a no for me.

Although I haven't used them yet, I purchased Blue Magic, Ultra Sheen Original Formula Conditioner & Hair Dress, and some other grease. These are a couple that was used on my hair coming up, which kept my hair moisturized. I'm tied of spending so much money on these natural haircare lines. When I'm not wearing a wash-n-go, I'll start using grease. I was gonna start incorporating onion treatments but, I suppose I can just use sulfur 8. Thanks for sharing! Peace and Blessings!🙏🏾❤️

Ive used Ultra Sheen, DooGro, KeraCare YO5 grease products in the past. I'm still using Kera Care and I may get African Pride hair grease in the future. I have Sulfur 8 somewhere. When found I'll use ir.

Very informative as usual, I just bought lusters pink moisturiser lotion which I use to use years ago as a little girl. It never did me wrong back then so I am hoping that I will feel the same way about it now, unfortunately the natural hair community made me think twice about using these products again because of the ingredients, but all I could remember was, my hair flourished when using it 🤔🤷🏽‍♀️ So I am very curious to see what happens 🤞🏽 Thankyou for your video💙

I don't think hair is dead, it connected to your nervous system. Your hair contains life. But I still think mineral oils are good.

Dabur Amla Oil (the one all the Indian girls on KZbin are using to do a heavy oiling) is primarily mineral oil and I use it as a sealant. I had initially stopped, as so many people said mineral oil is bad for hair. But it does a great job of sealing moisture into my type four hair so I went back to it lol. Relieved to see this video vindicating my experience!😅😅😅

Marci b hi i am from india ,my mom always applied dabur amla in my hair when I was a kid and believe me it is very good oil it makes hair shiny ,silky, and long .my hair are very long when I was young and nothing happened to my hair ,as now everyone is saying that mineral is bad for hair don't use but I think it is not true because it had done no harm to my hair ,even my sister in law use dabur amla for her kids and their hair are also very long and thick

Scurl products works wonders for me. The only thing I noticed is that I get dandruff. So I stopped using it bc I didn't know if "mineral oil" was the culprit. But I think I will return.

I heard that mineral oil/petroleum stays on the hair shaft and you cannot moisturize your hair after using them. Me: spray my leave in conditioner mic with water and apply grease on my cornwors every day. My hair soaks it up and is defined💙 with moisture!

As a little girl my hair was really long, like the center of my back long when braided. So long to the point my classmates thought I was wearing a wig. What did that? When my mum styled my hair she used johnsons baby lotion, water and grease. Now I'm sitting here looking at all these Natural hair videos like lawd have mercy
