When I was a small girl, everyone called me and my sisters, Pocahontas, because we had the longest ponytails. My moon mom used cocobutter hand lotion or any other hand lotion on our hair. When she could afford hair grease, it was TCB or something like that. We never got our hair pressed until we were preteens. Then, perm became a thing, and now it's just trying to figure it all out again.

This was so informative. Honestly the water part is what surprised me the most. I mean it’s common knowledge that drinking enough water is extremely important for the body but I had no idea that it was that important for the hair. I didn’t even know hair was partly made of water. I’m that type of person that doesn’t nearly drink enough water. Most of the time I’m just not thirsty. But my hair has always been very brittle and nothing has really worked so far. So now I’m thinking maybe it’s because of my water intake

I went back to grease 10 years ago and my hair grew from collarbone to bra strap length in a year. Now it is waist length because I stopped again after that acceptable length and experienced every and any trends I go back again to grease with the aim to stick to it. Expecting tailbone next year! My easy regimen: hot oil or deep conditionning mask- wash every 3 weeks- conditionner rinse- medium braids or twists- grease every 3 nights, bam!🎉

From what I understand, Henna also acts as a substance that “fills in gaps” on the cuticle layer of the hair strands. From my experience, it does because my high porosity strands have never been stronger, even after using Aphogee protein treatments, which I used for years. So Henna is effectively my bond builder! 😅🌸 Great video!

Ahhhh funny you mention this because if you use blue magic Indian hemp and castor oil, super sure grow versions and look at the ingredients henna is one of them and im high porosity.

I’ve been trying to figure my hair out for a long time. The most I know is that it is fine, but I believe it is due to me not taking as great of care of it but idk, and I’m not sure what the porosity is but my hairstylist said she thinks I was medium. My hair can take a while to dry but I will try the method you suggested out and really find out. I do know my hair is very prone to tangles, and every wash day I feel like I loose a lot of hair. Also the longest I’ve been able to get it was to about braids strap length. I’ve been on this hair journey for such a long time and to be honest I feel like I don’t really know my hair as well as I should know to take care of it so if you have any pointers for me or any suggestions I am very glad to try them thank you. 😊

I have a fenugreek hair grease I love from soultanicals that I enjoy using it. Please do a video on bond builders. I would love to hear more information on that. If Im not mistaken henna acts like a natural bond builder/ protein treatment.

Don't use glycerin directly on your skin because in dry weather, the glycerin drag moisture out of your skin. Glycerin should be part of the ingredients of your products not used alone.

Also products with urea, panthenol, ceramides, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid are good hydrators and after applying them, you can seal in with occlusive like butters and petroleum jelly

I personally would not 😅. Just use sulfur 8 on your scalp. That’s its primary function. Blue magic and Vaseline work on the scalp but they are better on the body of the hair (in my opinion).

I needed this video! Yesterday I was looking for ways to get rid of dry hair. My hair has been feeling like straw for the past 2 years after the products and water have dried. I've never had this. I want my hair to feel soft and hydrated again :(. If anyone has any additional tips for dry/stray hair, please comment below, I will appreciate it :). Products that really gave me bomb curls and real hydration that lasted for days suddenly no longer work. I cut my hair to chin length to get rid of all the split ends, didn't work either. I tried the water only method which made my hair even drier so I stopped. Now I use flaxseed gel (without oil because everyone says oil is not a moisturizer...), my hair is still dry with flaxseed gel and dry. Furthermore, last year I spent a lot of money on various products and bond builders and now I am really at my wits' end and I don't know what to do anymore :(.

Try adding glycerine to your water sprays. It’s been a game changer for me. Seal with grease or castor oil. You can also add aloe Vera juice to your spray if you have one.

A little confusing. In science and medicine moisture always refers to water, not oils or fatty acids. See definition of water in any dictionary. Other influencers like Curly Chemistry link moisture and hydration together. Oils, grease and butters are seen as lubricants or emollients, and some may have occlusive or humectant properties, but do not on their own provide moisture. Maybe it's a matter of semantics.

I’m not really keen on using petrolatum which is in most traditional greases especially when produced in US. You’ve got to be sure that they’ve removed all carcinogens from it + it’s not environmentally friendly. Plant based oils and butters are cleaner, better for your health and the environment. At the end of the day we all have to choose what we’re willing to give up or do to contribute to a better world! Loved the bit on stress, black women need to learn stress management because we’re almost always on the go worrying about everyone except ourselves. We also need to see our hair as self care and a process to enjoy that is part of our de-stressing rituals

I don’t think they lied. Women just moved away from products using mineral oils. Which is byproduct of refining crude oil to make gasoline. It’s like how a whole industry (protein shakes) was created to utilize the byproduct of making cheese (whey).

It’s actually completely different. I am very aware of the origins of petrolatum and mineral oil because I’ve done extensive research. The genesis of their use is very different from that scenario. They are two separate products of similar origin, that are both used in grease. The primary component of grease however is petrolatum, not mineral oil. Sometimes when you have too much information.. it’s just not feasible for the average person, who has a busy work schedule or children to take care of … I understand you need to sell your hard work but it has too much information for me to want to sit down and read and then on top of that you have all of these multiple recipes for hair growth is just not realistic…like show me what actually grew your hair.. giving all these 20 plus recipes doesn’t make you an expert… it just makes you just like a doctor that prescribes 5 plus medications and think that they are helping someone… thank you but no thank you..
