Court rooms are just private clubs for attorneys. You are only there to enrich them. The biggest mistake you can make is getting sucked into the legal industry. All my efforts go into maintaining a low profile and avoiding it.

If you see it this way, you are only putting yourself at a disadvantage. I think this is from the series Yellowstone: "Words are the swords of this century." What you may be referring to is a public defender. They will usually recommend taking the first plea deal offered. When you are facing serious time, you probably want to pay or find a way to pay for the services of a private attorney. Hiring a good one can be the difference between a 10 year and 2 year stint.

@@Chironex_Fleckeri I think you guys are saying different things but both are very factual. I think it’s ok to loathe the legal system and avoid it at all costs. But once you’re in it, you better find one of the few good (intentioned) attorneys that are out there and keep you mouth shut until you do.
@SmallSpoonBrigade

@@Chironex_Fleckeri One of the unfortunate realities is that public defenders are poorly paid and over worked. The legal system has low standards for competence of attorneys as in you have a right to an attorney, just in criminal proceedings, and they can have dementia, but as long as they're a lawyer, that's probably good enough. I do think that in most cases we'd be better off giving the defense the same amount of resources as the prosecution and parity in civil cases so that there's a more equal access to protection under the law. Still, if I were arrested, I'd rather it be in the US than most other countries as it is a better than average system on the whole.

So far 98% of everything he has said is spot on no matter where you live !! This lawyer has really opened up my eyes & mind about how this messed up system works. No matter if you are guilty or innocent, he is very easy to understand. Does not use words or lingo that I did not understand. Gave me really good advice on my case even though I did not hire him. I am in Chicago and it is terrible here, guilty until proven innocent no matter what !! My case is on going for over 2.5 years now, the state is dragging it out….

Attorneys main obligations are to the courts and not their clients, this is a well known fact, most attorneys try to get a plea deal instead of the case being dismissed, this way the judge and all his buddies (public servants) get paid along with your attorney.

First thing is make sure that you are not hiring a rubber stamp lawyer. My last lawyer was a rubber stamp lawyer. I would have been far better off going to court without any lawyer at all than the lawyer that I hired. Calling him incompetent would be an understatement. There was nothing that they lawyer did that I could not of done my self.

I was in a lawsuit for a traffic accident in which I was cited. I felt terrible about the accident and truly heart sick about the injuries. My lawyer realized this was all new to me, one of the first things he told me was, "Don't take this personal, it wasn't a crime it was an accident". To the average citizen lawsuits can be traumatizing, they don't happen daily for most of us. So glad I had a lawyer that I trusted and let me know this was a typical daily court case for him. Moral of the story ..... Trust your lawyer but never trust another cars turn signal.

i hear what your saying about not getting ahead of your lawyer / public defender as to questioning what they may or may not be doing at a certain point but i cant figure out for the life of me why my p d would call the alledged victim and tell them just about everything he and i had previously discussed some of wich by any standard would be called inflammatory and when i asked him if he had spoken to her he denied talking to her, so my question is, how when and to who should i ask ?

The problem is that if you personally are in deep trouble, you'd probably want the kind of zealous attorney going after the most defensible positions possible on your behalf. Most of the reasons that people hate attorneys is for when they're doing that for somebody that you don't personally like over something that you don't agree with. There have always been attorneys that are basically just conmen, but I doubt it's as common now as it used to be with the ability to see what's going on in so many court rooms.

Is it appropriate to ask an attorney how many cases have they won vs. losses?
@1Turnatatime
@1Turnatatime Жыл бұрын
Seems the more professional question would be, what is the success rate of your cases? Would sound more like a game if you ask in that manner, although lawyers may say they're strategic and competitive as if it is a game and you want a lawyer who's confident in their knowledge and skills. They may keep track of the numbers but anyone can put a number on a bo ard and say I did that.

Is it ok to ask an attorney for an itemized invoice or statement of their rates and all work performed? What's the difference between an attorney and a lawyer?

I was a Marine recruiter for over 10 years. It was my job to completely inform a civilian about what a 4 year commitment to enlistment entailed from stepping into my office to marching across the parade deck on graduation day. I took my job seriously. You lawyers should have the same damn ethics and understand that the person you represent has ZERO KNOWLEDGE about law and the snakes that abuse the law. Do your job as you would like it done to you. With ALL due respect. Public defenders are paid by the system. They do not care about you or winning your case.

Remaining silent if your attorney is slow or Brady violations are withholding valid evidence..thats a good way for a defendant to be sent away without guilt... if the truth never gets out because the defendant is silent without witnesses it can be a disaster. Think about possibly of Brady violations within discovery prosecutors withholding evidence on your behalf and then not allowed during trial...truth / evidence just spoiled away.. ... from, JD

I hate how lawyers act as though no one is able to learn what they know 😂 sure "experience" is one part of it. But you can have a "highly" rated attorney that really doesn't do their client the BEST they could. I mean take for instance if your attorney isn't talking to the prosecutor before pretrial why wouldn't that be considered WASTING your money. The courts, Jury, Public, everyone involved in a court proceedings time is VALUABLE. So why would you not want it to be dismissed. IDC that you have 7-10 other cases YOU chose to take on another case, proper time management isn't on the client
@Truthseeker728
@Truthseeker728 5 ай бұрын
I mean what could be considered a "highly". "qualified" lawyer to one is wholly inadequate to the next. It is a TEAM effort. The attorney still has a job after their clients case. The client? Could be in jail because "professional" relationships are more important than an innocent person walking free

I’m wondering if I’ll underpaid at least public defenders who are not government employees i.e. contracted would be able to file a class action suit on the grounds that they’re not paid fairly represent a client feather have to have way too many clients be paid fairly or they represent one client in mono we get $1000 flat fee one to do so competently requires at least 30 if not eight hours of work possibly not even being able to get reimbursed for expenses essentially as an excuse to force the government to pay public defenders reasonably using that we’re not being paid fairly as a technical grounds to sue
