I pay so little attention to trends, I never knew these things were "out." Traditional all my life, old as dirt now, English country, skirts on furniture, brass in formal rooms, pewter in less formal. Home is comfortable, people come, relax, and get away from the hustle bustle of their lives...makes me happy.

Your discussion on piping brought back a memory of helping my mother reupholster a ten foot sofa as a young teen. I got to pull the cording line through endless tubes of damask blue floral fabric to form the piping for all the cushions. It ended up beautiful and forged a closeness between us that was sadly needed by the angst ridden teen, me. Thank you for reminding me!

I love that some of these traditional design features are coming back! I recently bought a pair of antique oak Liberty chairs. I'd been watching them online for about a year but couldn't justify the price. For some reason, they never sold (maybe because the seat fronts were slightly damaged). Eventually, the seller knocked the price right down and I went for them. I've been able to mend the damage and you can't tell they've been repaired unless you look really closely. Sometimes you can get things which are affordable if you're willing to put in a little work to clean them up or get them restored. I love the chairs and they look great in my little dining area. Antiques might not always be trendy but they're always stylish.

It is timeless design to mix antiques with other design styles. That’s also very elevated and gives a curated appearance to a space providing allot of character.

Thanks for this. I learned a lot. I’ve always been a bit more traditional in my interior choices and often felt old fashioned, but with newer items - even Knick knacks the quality just isn’t there. Give me a cut crystal vase any day over these wood balls etc thatve been popular in recent years. Horses for courses.

My kitties say YES to the fringe, so NO! My sofas are traditional and have piping, however. Have striped bolster so check! Lumbar is a necessity. Button pillow check! Vintage chairs check! Small Pop of red purposely done, already. Garrett this is the FIRST time I have more than 1-2 things 😂 You’re a gem (by your dining room is the most beautiful I have EVER seen).

Finding a good reupholsterer is a skill and it’s expensive. But …here’SA trick….find the fabric you like hat a furniture store, take a pic of all the info and then order it from North Carolina furniture company.. t will cost about half of what you’d normally pay for the fabric.

Piping can be made and also sewn into seams using a zipper foot. For bullion and other trims try clear thread or fishing line and the stitching will disappear.

Hi Garrett, Thank you for the vlog!! Interesting as how these dated designs are going to come back. To be honest other than those sofa pipings rest all are still acceptable for me, am not much fond of it but again you never know things done in a right way and with the right fabric can change the perception:) Garrett the apartment that we first bought was all classic wooden elements and cream beige couch and the most of the things were subtle and to bring the pop of the colour I made all the cabinets of my kitchen red, that was 20 years ago😍and I loved that boldness of colours then but now I would not like so much of red going on🙃 but I love red ♥️ You have a wonderful week ahead gorgeous person..xx

Yes it’s very lovely for those who enjoy that style. Everyone is different and as they say different strokes for different folks. Classic I will use but trends are a no-no. Bolster pillows and antique furniture are classics but pops of red will date a room quickly. I'm also not into fringe on furniture as I saw too much of it in the 1980's where it belongs. Excellent video! ☀️🌴🦩☺️😊🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️
