5 Days Bushcraft Trip - Fatwood Torch - Canvas Poncho Shelter

Out for some hiking and bushcraft in the remnants of summer. Autumn is here now finally and looking forward to winter. Interesting experience making a torch and actually trying to use it in the dark. As always you get things so wrong from how it is depicted in the movies.
They are sensitive to wind. The vision you get is very limited and your night vision gets ruined. You see about 2 m in front of you which makes navigating or walking in a straight line absolutely impossible. I managed to cross a small peninsula in the dark down to the shore, mostly because I had an idea of the topography, getting some water and made my way back again. And recorded it as good as I could with two cameras....let me tell you it was not the easiest thing I've done.
I think when navigating through a dark forest it's better to get used to the dark and just use your night vision. Because it's almost never pitch black outside. Around camp a torch is good though to find things on the ground, walk a short distance when nature calls or... why not fend off a blood thirsty pack of wolves!
I lost my wooden spoon at the end there and that's why I had to improvise. Bummer. It was my favorite spoon. I think its beside a tree at camp one on my friends land and hopefully I can retrieve it later this fall.

Yeah ! You'd definitely be a handy guy to have around in the woods . Packing up is always the worse in the rain , I've had to do it many times myself . Your torch was one of the best demonstrations of a longer lasting one I've seen , especially with the innovative resupply of fatwood bound on the side of the shaft . I think the old faithful very patched up boots have retired. I will miss them. I am sure the new ones will serve you well. 11/09/24-1st time viewing your channel. Too bad I’m too old and infirm to do camping anymore, but your camp set up was partly something I was describing to a fellow enthusiast about how to set up a fire reflector and using a tarp rather than a tent. If you are stationary for a period of time, it makes a nice base camp, saves you from over loading yourself with gear as long as you have both a fold up saw and camp axe plus sheath knife, and are also handy with hunting & gathering techniques. Good video.

Excellent, uncomplicated episode of wild camping in the beautiful forest woodlands. I felt a little apprehensive when you lit the torch and took off into the night, then I remembered where you're at being it's so wet nothing will catch fire😉 The leaves are starting to fall here but temps are still in the upper 80's, won't be too long till cooler days. Great camp. Learned importance of fat wood for torch. First porage. You caught a fish. Dry til last day. Hard filming burning torch while carrying it. Beautiful skies and place. Full moon couple weeks back plenty color now its fall. All good from East Kentucky USA. Next time

You can find wolves in the south of Sweden but no bears. I live north of Stockholm, and we got bears and wolves in the woods but its very rare to actually see them.

Also, have you ever tried wrapping your coffee in a paper filter, tying it shut at the top (like a teabag), and dropping the "coffee bag" into your boiling water? I do this when I camp, and I make several of these "coffee bags" before I leave. They keep the coffee grounds out of the water.
