I got tired of blade gap, blade exposure, open comb, closed comb nonsense and switched over to a kamisori style razor and love it. It's simple and only cost me $16 and it included one hundred blades. Now all I need to do is find one soap ;)

I have a Rockwell 6S, and used all the plates except plate 1 But I commented one time on Instagram on the Rockwell profile that I do shave very comfortable with plate 2. A hour later a guy replied, that he always used plate 5, and the plate 2 is for someone without hair on his face. So yes, he was doing the manly testosterone thing. And indeed, with plate 5 I am done in two passes, but with plate 2 I shave more relaxed and need 3 passes. And it is just a delight to brush three times nice soap on your chin! Regards from The Netherlands.

Hey Kevy, just happened to use R3-1 plate and Cella today. First pass on 3 then flipped the plate. Perfectly acceptable everyday shave for me. The 6s/c has been my goto for 5 years, first time I've used R1.😮

Nice one Kevy💈💈 I was told "If you have to feel the blade, there's something wrong". Now, there's nothing wrong with feeling the blade if you like it, it's all subjective. A DE89 has a 0.72 blade gap but 0 exposure, so the shave is efficient but super comfortable. No wonder it's a go to for most people. I love my 6C razor and use #3 exclusively because of the smooth feel on my skin, just goes to show it's forward blade exposure that's the culprit. YMMV. Great shave and demo using #1, point proven.

Its nice to try and dispel some of the myths of wet shaving such as blade gap. Another myth is "don't apply pressure to the razor, let the weight do the work". I have to apply some pressure to get any results; just touching the skin does not cut it

Nice shave AND proof that big blade gaps is a ruse. Or maybe the Rockwell 6S is the best-designed safety razor. If you can get a BBS shave using the R1 plate with 5 days of growth, I think all those saying they can't need to prove that in a video. I use to feel that the Rex Ambassador couldn't give me a close, nick-free shave (because of the positive blade exposure) until I accepted that the RA just didn't work as an adjustable for me. Now I can get a decent shave if I stay on the lowest setting. So, I will give your "experiment" a try with my 6S. There is no better DE razor on the market...IMHO of course!

Thank you for demonstrating you don't need an aggressive razor for a good shave. With Rockwell 6s I use plate 3 for one pass and then plate 1 for last 2 passes. Very, very comfortable shave for me!

Great shave. I don’t believe blade gaps equate to razor aggression. It’s more like the design that contributes to the aggressiveness of razors in general. I tried plate 1 just once and it was useless in cutting anything down. So that plate is a no go for me. Plate 2 is the mildest setting that works for me, but I primarily use it in ATG and cleanup passes and when I need milder shaves. My hair is really coarse, so I often go for medium to moderate aggressive razors to effectively take down my stubble in a shave. I do me and you do you. Have a good one!

I recommend people do what works best or is most comfortable or familiar to them individually. I often see milder razors recommended for people with sensitive skin, but it has the opposite effect for me. I find milder razors to require more care in maintaining proper angle or the blade may not cut. This leads to needing more passes and ultimately more irritation, at least for myself. I take care to limit the number of passes I use, as that seems to have the best reduction in irritation, and a medium razor will ensure I clear all my stubble without issue. Whenever I see people shaving with milder razors I notice they go over the same areas again and again in one pass (at that point is it really one pass?) My skin unfortunately won't tolerate that sort of shave.

Excellent shave as always my dear friend. I haven't been able to get on here as much as I'd like to. Unfortunately, I can't shave every day, because I have really sensitive skin. It's usually about every 2-3 days for me. I use all different razors and blades and yes, sometimes use my old gillette original atra cartridge razor lol. Hope you, Mrs kevy and Riley are doing well.

Thanks Kevy. Good point I use a Rockwell T2 on setting 3 with most blades for 2 passes and a touchup on setting 1. Works for me I just switch up blades if I have more growth I usually use something like a Astra for everyday shaving and a personna for heavier growth. Feathers don't work for my sensitive skin. If you find what works for you its a good thing my go to is to never go more aggressive than you need.

Nice demo of how a very mild razor can knock down some growth. Agreed we all tend to be looking at blade gap for an aggression indicator but in reality there's a lot more to making a razor feel aggressive, for example I have a razor with 1.25mm blade gap and it feels mild and another with 0.5mm gap that feels aggressive. Personally I prefer a mildish razor with not much blade feel👌🤠👌

Hello Kevy, can you tell me when you recorded a video with Rokwell 6s that was free of coatings? Now you shave again with the coated model. Regards, Wojtek
As a sort of experiment I tried shaving daily doing a single sort of hybrid pass that combines elements of with, across, and against the grain, using the 6S on plate 4, and I find I can get almost BBS with zero irritation and very few weepers in about 10 minutes. Okay, 15 minutes if you count cleaning up afterwards.

I'm a Mon, Wed, Fri. shaver and, although the mild is smoother, I find lately that I have to push more with it. My Ikon Deluxe Comb is more moderate and seems less labor intensive right now. Still smooth but, much more efficient.

Blade gap has become silly now. I’ve seen people, who have fairly light growth, shave with huge blade gaps and still need 3 passes and pick ups same as they do with small blade gaps. It really does come down to what works and feels better for each individual.
@georgewashington30124 ай бұрын
I use plate 5 for everything. I don’t get much value from plate 6 even after a week of growth. 6 doesn’t seem any more efficient and it provides a more dangerous shave…much easier to nick. I can shave my ears with plate 5. When I try it with plate 6, it’s roulette.

Blade gaps do matter in my opinion. The highly praised Merkur 34c has minimal blade gap. I have not tried it but I have tried Merkur 42c which is 3 piece instead of 2 piece razor and I believe they have the same heads. 42c is the least efficient razor I have had. At one point I read about franken razors and I started experimenting with the razors I had bought instead of buying new razors looking for the one. I replaced the Merkur 42c bottom plate with the bottom plate of Razorock SLAB razor which is similar to Parker bottom plates. The blade gap increased and it was a much better shaver than with the original bottom plate. It was also easier to rinse. I started doing the same with soaps. I like Cella but somehow its lather was lacking for me so mixed it with Omega shave soap which scent is kind of medicinal to my nose. Cella, in a way, neutrilized the Omega scent and on the other hand the Omega soap improved the lather I was getting from Cella. Cheers!
