This was SO much fun! I was literally in my element. One thing I will say is obviously I kind of created my own recipes, but I did get inspiration from recipes I found online, so they are linked below, but I subbed things in and out where I hadn't bought them. I defo learnt my lesson that PLANNING is key, I think that would save me a LOT of money in the future!
Instagram: gracebooth97
extra channel: WHERE I HAVE BEEN POSTING LOTS OF EXTRA VLOGS: extra grack
Recipes:
Breakfast Burritos- How to heat/freeze:
www.skinnytast...
Vegan ones: sweetsimpleveg...
Quinoa bowls- www.simplyquin...
Waffles- simple-veganis...
Bircher museli- laurencariscook...
Mushroom pasta- www.pickuplime...
I think that is about it! I REALLY recommend the mushroom pasta, because most of the stuff is store cupboard and the bircher! Yummm

3 things: 1. I pre filmed a few videos before all of this carnage, so I don't even address the topic. 2. I ate LOADS of snacks in-between, legit got through a whole tub of peanut butter during this week, just didnt show every time I cracked out the snacks :) 3. I think your meal prep was great! I can't believe how well you did on that budget! Of course, when you generally cut meat out of your diet, it's usually much less expensive to plan your menu! I would suggest, however, to pair your entrees with a side salad or some veg .... to "bulk out' the food and make you feel like it's more of a proper meal. Think about when you go to a restaurant ... you generally don't just get a bowl of pasta ... you also usually get soup or a salad, some bread, etc. Your b'fast burritos looked great, but maybe try some salsa or pico de gallo on top of them for added flavor and to counteract the "surface dryness." There are some lovely avocado salsas too ... but they may have dairy in ... I'm sure you could come up with something!

love this so much! Meal prep really helps keep costs down, and it's less wasteful if you can use things for multiple dishes! It's terrible! I'm Irish and luckily there's a plastic free veg shop in our town, we get a delivery every week with no plastic packaging it's so convenient, but whenever we have to shop in the supermarket everything is wrapped, and if it's not in packaging it's normally way more expensive (like a euro for a bell pepper) it's so bad

Melissa Alford Very understandable, Melissa! But wraped or not you should be thorouhgly washing ALL of your vegetables and fruit before consumtion (preferrably before storage whe possible). The one that comes in a plastic wrap also! I like to wash it even if I will peel before consumtion. Nasty stuff can survive for surprisingly long periods of time on any surface, it being viruses, pedticides or any form of contamination. Be safe! :)

Bircher muesli is typically eaten in Switzerland. I used to eat it a lot as a child, It's very nutritious and filling. You cn put whatever you want with seasonal fruits like pears, apples but also peaches or mixed berries etc. It's usually oats, milk (plant based for me and you), nuts and fruits. It's super good and also travel-friendly.

Meal prep is the literal best thing for lunches and dinners if you're working a lot or at uni. I get so tired by the time I get home from school that I just don't feel like cooking and go eat some junk. Meal prepping makes me eat much healthier then I would and I have no excuses because I know I have a good meal waiting for me. Not to say I don't snack, because I do, but I feel like that's most people unless you're on a strict diet, so don't feel too bad about the crisps. I think the main point of the meal prepping is to save time during the week and just have a healthy meal ready to go.

What DOES work for me is meal prepping but freezing the majority of it. In no time at all, I've got a huge variety in my freezer, and I can grab whatever I"m in the mood for. It keeps me from getting bored, everything is homemade, and the ingredients don't go to waste.

@Nimeariel
@Nimeariel 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah- it all has to do with the exchange rate. What might be "cheap" for someone in one country (aka $20usa or 25pounds) might be a different number for someone else. I am sure that if you REALLY got creative, you could find 25aud worth of groceries, but you'd probably be eating ramen/instant noodles and cheap-o hot dogs mostly.... But maybe 50aud is "cheap" for you, so instead of doing a 25aud challenge for yourself, do a 50aud challenge. If that makes sense. Unless for Australians, 50aud is actually quite expensive for them, too..... That's like when chinese or japanese people say 1000yuan or 1000yen, you're like OMG!!! but really, they mean like (I'm making this up, cuz I can't be bothered to check real quick) $10usa and then you're like oh.... yeah.... 1000yuan/1000yen isn't toooo bad. But maybe for them, 1000yuan/yen really is a lot and things over there cost 5yuan/yen and you're like OMG a bowl of REAL ramen soup for 5cents USA? Yes please!! So, in short, you just have to make this challenge what is reasonable for you. If that makes ANY sense at all....

@@JB-vd8bi broccoli is $14/kg where I am in Aus! It's insane. I've got 2 kids and its getting harder to find meals to feed them, especially with coles and Woolies being empty and the restrictions on foods. A $50 shop wouldn't last us a week.

Love your meals. And they are super well timed because of this virus. Here in Ottawa, Canada some grocery stores are grim thanks to the mass food hoarders. I have everything except the zucchini’s in my house. Thank you!

Grace, you're truly a blessing! I love your content and your whole personality so much! As a uni student who lives alone abroad, away from my home country i've got to say that meal prep saves so much time and so much energy which is used for other things in the day. I've been meaning to try this mushroom pasta recipe since the video where you made your subscribers' recipes for a week and now i'm definitely going to try it. And to close off, we do watch the debrief in the end of your videos! :)

You could make energy balls/bites with those oats, honey and peanut butter! Add other items if you want ( seeds, nuts, chocolate chips, raisins) they also freeze great! There are so many different variations and recipes online.

Nice to hear you calling in bircher, not overnight oats like everyone seems to call it these days! I've been eating bircher since I was a kid and still enjoy it now, but my housemates had never heard of it!

hey just in case anyone was wondering, she paid around 30 us dollars for this whole thing while the average american at walmart (easiest store to access for many people) would pay around 70 i admit i didnt actually go in store and check because that would be ridiculous, but using the online grocery feature and choosing the cheapest options got me to 71.36 while hers, converted from pounds using google, cost 28.69

@W S yeah that's what's kind of messed up, that i saw the amount of food she got and it didnt seem like you could get that much for so little money, which is why i looked it up (for my area). you SHOULD be able to get that much food for that much money. i didnt even know you could in other countries until now

Also tip for tortillas, warming them up a bit will make them easier to fold into burritos, etc.

Hey grace :) for the bircher: you should try either add shredded apple (but you may not like the consistency) or a sliced apple on top. The crunch factor from the fresh apple won my husband over and he has the same feelings around oat texture as you :)

Meal prep is perfect since we are in Coronavirus era and only shopping one day a week. I had to stop your video and make the museli! Mine has a few substitutions: chopped walnuts, maple syrup (instead of brown sugar), a heaping tablespoon each flax meal and chia seeds. All items l have on hand. I’m all set for some healthy snacking or a quick meal. Now to go watch the rest of the video. 👍😍

Hahaha firstly yes love a debrief 😉 and secondly loved your comment about when you craving something you must have it regardless of meals pre prepped and gurl yass🙌🏻 I am the same! One day I’ll be loving a meal and then I’ll make double assuming I’ll love it the next day and then boom a craving hits and the prepped meal is then despised as I have to eat it but don’t want to arghhhh and I mean it’s a good meal - it shouldn’t take it personally but I will just not be able to get it down my throat🤢

I am impressed that you were able to buy all of that for what is equivalent of just over $28 USD. I feel like it would cost more here in the states. Have you tried taco or burrito fillings over baked potatoes? So yummy.

Two things about the awesomeness that is Birchers muesli, it's great with small bits of chopped apple and mixed berry sauce and -------- number two, never eveeerrrr think a batch will be fantabulous with chocolate sauce, because you'll be grossly mistaken lol
