In this video, I tried sleep hacking for 5 days. I tried all sorts of sleep hacks to get better sleep, including controlling my light environment, using essential oils, breathing techniques, supplements, and even a weighted blanket!
In PART ONE of this sleep series, I simply tried to sleep the 7-9 hours of sleep per night that the National Sleep Foundation recommends. Sleeping enough is something I have struggled with for many years and I knew that it was one area of my health where I was falling really short.
Sleep affects every part of our body and health, from our physical health to our mental and emotional wellbeing. The research on the importance of sleep continues to get stronger.
In this video, I interview sleep scientist/researcher Dan Pardi about the different factors that affect sleep and he advises me on different sleep hacks that I can use to improve the quality of my sleep. He talks about controlling my light environment, developing a nightly routine, controlling body temperature and different supplements to try.
In PART ONE of my sleep series, Dan talked about how lack of sleep could be contributing to weight gain as well as putting you at a greater risk for dementia and Alzheimer's. In this video, Dan talks more about factors that are affecting our sleep and different sleep hacks and tools we can use to improve the quality of our sleep.

Nothing will help me sleep until the morons in my community STOP harassing MY LITTLE GIRL and dog. They follow me around like zombies I hate it and can't sleep because I know they're goin to do the same shit everyday. There enchanted with us. I hate it.

I decided to get the weighted blanket. It reminds me of when I was a child sleeping with a heavy blanket and remembered how it worked. You explained the affect of it very well.

Was hoping you would say your favorite.... I find found box breathing and several other breath or meditation works well. As well as black out eye mask (if you cant get room dark enough) and mouth tape work well for me

Ok, here is an experience from a hiker perspective: When I do middle distance hikes and stay over night in nature I normaly sleep 4 hours of not deep sleep. But, here is the thing: Because of the fresh cold air, while I am wrapped up in my cosy sleeping bag it feels much better than 4 hours of deep sleep in my bed. I mean in comparison. Also the waking up with the morning birds and the upcoming sun is soooo woth it to go out with a 21 Kg Backpack.

I drink chamomile tea every night with a little fresh squeezed lemon (no sugar), teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and cinnamon. I use a diffuser with lavender or peace and calming. I also have an affirmation that I say to myself. “I always sleep great, wake up well rested and full of energy. “. As I’m going to sleep I think of what I’m grateful for and repeat to myself “Every night with all my might, I get healthier and healthier. “. I also use a sleep sound machine because my hubby snores and it drowns out all noises. Pink noise is the right frequency for me.

Cold showers are golden (no pun intended). I've been taking a freezing shower every day for over 1,5 year now. It's incredible for sleep right before bed and has so many benefits - physical and psychological.

I thought weighted blanket was so weird but then I got one and... for me it’s more about it being way too much effort to toss and turn so it encourages me to just keep laying down and sleep.

There's an old wise man once told me to put a peeled clove of garlic in my pillow case for good sleep, don't cut it at all just peel it.. And it oddly works and I usually toss and turn for an hour or 2! I have no idea why it works

Wear a blue-blocking glass 2-3 hours before sleep. They are very cheap, like 10 dollars on Amazon (Uvex). To me, that's the FIRST thing you should do.

It's interesting that melatonin didn't appear in the video. I see it advertised everywhere although I don't think it works that well. I haven't researched for alarm "morning-light" prices in years (they were pricey back then). Do you think it's worth while? It's the second video I watch involving the weighted blanket. The first was from a youtuber with ASD (Asperger's), and the blanket may work in sensory stimulation. For those in the spectrum can be good or bad (in an individual basis) depending if they are sensory-seekers or sensory-avoiders in that regard. It's useful to see it in a more "neurotypical" person and by looking at your face in the post-sleep shots I don't think I need to ask if it works well :) Great content as always, thanks!

Watashi no Namae I’ve heard several sleep scientists say that melatonin doesn’t actually help to induce real physiological sleep and it’s probably placebo so if it helps you fall asleep it’s fine to take but it doesn’t actually do much
@adambier2415
@adambier2415 5 жыл бұрын
Meletonin helps some people fall asleep, basically if you are not producing enough on your own. But your body starts to rely on the pill and stops making as much. It’s better to reset your schedule and then stop using it. I’ve heard it mentioned that valerian causes/helps your body to produce melatonin so maybe that’s a safer bet.

Did you hear if the blue light filter on phones is really helpful? I use mine all the time and was wondering if it is a scam?
@Crepitom
@Crepitom 5 жыл бұрын
Helps a little. Just opt for a 99% blue light blocking glass, they are like 10 dollars on amazon. They also block all the blue light from all your devices AND lights, something a ''filter'' on your won't does not do.

For weight, it is supposed to be 10% of your body weight plus 1lb. So if you weight 150lbs it should be 150x.1=15+1= 16 total lbs.
