WEIGHTED🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️ BLANKET and SLEEP🛌🛌
**Manage Anxiety
**Positive impact on falling asleep and staying asleep
**Maybe beneficial for children and adults with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder
**Less tossing and turning when sleeping
**Give yourself 7-10 days to adapt to the weighted blanket
**Weight blanket can be 10-15% of body weight.
A weighted blanket give continuous afferent stimulation to the body which sends signals up the the brain improving serotonin, dopamine, GABA and may help decrease cortisol and seizures. The brain then sends signals down the Vagus Nerve to the heart reducing heart rate.

Fantastic, thanks!! I have had chronic severe anxiety, and of course insomnia, for years. I've heard about weighted blankets before, but never gave it a try. Now that the weather is getting colder, as we enter late fall, I've been stacking up the blankets and tend to actually get some decent sleep. I think the combo of extra weight on me from the blankets and the cooler temperature in the house. I think I'll purchase a weighted blanket and experiment without all the extra blankets. Thanks again Dr. Jin

Growing up we slept with home made quilts. Not the pretty kind but the heavy warm kind….. Mom always turned the gas heat stove down very low at night and we had 2 or 3 of these quilts over us… It made us feel so cozy and safe! I’m 64 years old now and still need a heavy quilt that I make myself and still get that safe feeling….

That is how I was raised, with home made heavy quilts because the upstairs bedrooms had only the heat that happened to come up thru the hole in the floor register from a coal stove. Later we had a coal furnace but still no heat ducts to the 2nd floor. I turn the heat down at night and sleep in a cool bedroom with heavy quilts now.

@@elizabethbrower640 I know, I make quilts also. But in my grandmothers and mother's case they saved Pretty for Sunday bedspreads. It was much harder to safely launder quilts that they meant to be passed down that they made everyday useable quilts from old clothes and scraps. My favorite quilt from one of my grandmothers is a Crazy Quilt with satins, velvets, wool scraps from my grandfather's suits & hand embroidery on or around each.

There is nothing like sleeping under those heirloom quilts! I don't know what was used for the batting, but new quilts, even home made ones, just don't feel the same. I quilt, and although I love the weight of the quilts, it's not the same as Grandma's old quilts.

I bought my wife a 12lb weighted blanket over a year ago and she says it is her all time favorite gift. She sleeps much better, does not toss and turn. She has a very high stressed job and this gives her great sleep. She takes it on road trips and when we camp with our trailer. She misses it if we fly somewhere, as she does not take it on the plane. I have been using a weighted blanket for 6 nights, and it has revolutionized my sleep. Once I fall a sleep, the next time I wake up automatically is 8 hours later without alarms. I fall asleep within a couple of minutes. I have no need for porn or orgasms to get to sleep. I actually look forward to sleeping at night, whereas I used to think of sleep as a nuisance just to get it over with. Once you get the correct weighted blanket, there is no going back to light blankets. Weighted blankets are the ultimate security blankets because they secure the sleeper whole night long.

I wake up in panic mode every time I’ve tried to use mine. I feel like I’m being held down and can’t move or breathe. Scary way to wake up. These are definitely not good for everyone.

I’ve been using a weighted blanket for couple years now, I’d be lost without it, it’s my blankie… lol I always get the question “isn’t it hot” it’s not for me… Great info Doctor, thank you!!!

I have found that I “fight” with my weighted blanket rather than being more restful. I have tried to manage it for 6 months now and have removed it for the winter. The other thing to keep,in mind is that weighted blankets will slide off with certain sheet types. High thread count sheets are particularly “slick” and tend to loose the blanket.

@Scott Mackey I had the same problem with the first one I bought that was the recommended weight ratio, so returned it and got a lower weight and it was successful. The first felt like a restraint, the second was just right.

Scott, I usually put another blanket on top to keep this from happening although my blanket is 15 pounds. It usually works and if I'm too hot, I just turned the fan on.

I felt this way too when I had a twin-sized weighted blanket, sometimes I would just be so stressed in it. The game changer for me was getting a lap-sized one. Now my legs and arm can be free, but I have just my torso covered when laying down. Works well for me.

Temple Grandin, (autistic. scientist. animal behaviorist. famous for creating humane treatment of livestock systems) created a structure that hugged her -applied gentle pressure to her body and calmed her when she had anxiety attacks (according to a movie about her life called "Temple Grandin"). I see how weighted blankets can have a similar effect.

In the winter time I put more blankets on my bed and I sleep so much I love how it feels when there's more weight on my body when I sleep. And I do sleep more soundly when I have more weight on my body for my blankets.

Me too, lol! And what’s ironic is my children are amazing artists. Both are teenagers who draw freehand, and one draws original anime type characters, and the other draws anything that comes to mind, and was told a career in drawing tattoo art could be a future career. I told them that God just skipped me for the talent in drawing and blessed both of them with art skills instead. :-)

I use weighted blankets when it's cold that still allow me to move my feet around. In warm weather, I use a very light weight blanket, or even a sheet, because I still need something on me.

I use down comforters. I feel the volume but not too hot…can use in winter and summer. I’ve always needed some kind of covering at night, no matter how hot (before the days of central air).

My 5yr old daughter had night terrors, nightmares, and other mysterious sleep interruptions every night, sometimes every 45 minutes... from infancy until June of this year. In desperation, I bought her a weighted blanket. The first night it was only over her lower legs... and yet, she slept thru the night.

When I wasw a child I used to find it comforting to pile things on my bed and then climb under them, to sleep. Felt safer for some reason. Now I'm thinking I might just get a weighted blanket now ---- Have two dog but in total they only weigh about 12 pounds, so they're no help :D
