@ApothecaryTerry Жыл бұрын
Aston's reputation for running costs including servicing, fuel, reliability, etc. Combine that with how similar all their cars of that era look - they looks great, but most people won't know the difference if you just buy a Vantage. Considering that, there are also a lot of similar Astons offering a similar experience - a DBS isn't special enough to justify a huge premium over a DB9, Vanquish, Virage, etc. Of course, it's a good thing really - means a DBS is vaguely attainable! That is, until you get to a petrol station or it needs a service.
@oldsoulboy6483 Жыл бұрын
Cost of reliability and servcing is no more than a Ferrari of the same era. Fuel comsumption of a V12 is always going to higher than a V8 or a flat 6. A Porsche is always going to be a cheaper long term prospect but ask the average non Porsche person in the street if they can tell the difference between a 20 year old 911 and a current model and most will not have a clue. So the "they all look the same" resoning does not wash . Ferrari's have evolved in the last 20 year BUT, F12 12 apart they have in the main become ugly and like Porsche they make far too many models that are too similar. @@ApothecaryTerry
@ApothecaryTerry Жыл бұрын
@@oldsoulboy6483 Ferraris have a Ferrari badge and do get a LOT more attention, so that's an entirely different proposition, regardless of how good the cars are or whether you like the styling (since "ugly" isn't a common view). Porsches aren't just slightly cheaper to run- my 3.4L porker regularly got 47-48mpg on long journeys, the tyres lasted 20k miles (not driven gently...) and they have bi-annual servicing. They do also all look the same, of course, but then the average person (who all know *nothing* about cars) pays more attention to a Cayman than most Astons, because it looks more like a supercar to them - I know that, because I drove a Cayman and regularly saw Astons getting ignored in favour of my car. No it isn't how it should be and any car person knows the Aston is more special, but that's not most people. The point is nothing to do with how good Astons are or any of my opinion about them, it's just how the general public perceive them and what owners expect from them, that's what drives value- in this case, down.
@mrbzliteyear Жыл бұрын
Isn’t Aston just two unreliable ford V6 put together? And you get ford focus window switches 😂
@ApothecaryTerry Жыл бұрын
@@mrbzliteyear You also get a Volvo key fob and many other things. Almost every car has that though - a Porsche 918 Spyder has the window switch off a Skoda Citigo. I know this, because so does a 981CS and my friend who owns a Citigo wouldn't let me forget it 🤣 Pagani used the HVAC unit off an old Rover, and the engine from an old Merc S600. Koenigsegg used RX-8 indicators and, originally, also a Ford-based engine. The XJ220 has an engine from a Metro. The Emira has a Camry engine. The McLaren 12C engine is based on a Nissan design... Thing is - some of those are extremely reliable, others very much not, but if an Aston has a Ford engine that means there's a good chance your local mechanic can get parts and knows how to fix it, whereas if the engine in the Cayman breaks...the words "diagnostic fee" become very familiar and Porsches aren't much more reliable than Astons (*hugely* more economical, practical and better at holding their value though).

You’re joking right…. You’re trying to defend a miata as a replacement for exotics? Of course exotics are expensive to own, but that’s regardless of their starting price. So the reason your mx5 is enough is because you can’t afford one of these. That’s all.
@rockymntdan111 ай бұрын
@@chris8535 Chill a little. I can't understand why the more you pay for a car the more it's A POS! Replacing suspensions in Bentley's and Roll's at 50k miles is just one example. You would think the more you pay over 200k the car would be MORE reliable and last LONGER.
@RageBandit-111 ай бұрын
@@rockymntdan1 Let me break it down for both super cars and luxury cars. supercars require expensive cutting edge components that can tolerate high stress and propel the car forward about as fast as the engineers can possibly make it go. this means that unlike your ford fiesta, these cars are set at (or close to) the limit of their components capabilities from the factory. This means the components arent going to last as long as a ford which is designed to get you to your destination smoothly rather than as fast as possible. Think about it logically. For the super luxury cars there is a simple answer. Ever wonder why old cars seem to last longer? the answer is less features/components. the amount of technology they cram into Bentleys rolls etc is incomparable to a cheap car. if you imagine the amount of electronic devices they have you can simply tally up the amount of things that can break. Its really simple honestly, more components = more things to go wrong. Rich people do not mind this, as they get rid of the car long before the dashes start lighting up like christmas trees, and just buy the latest model next year. To them the features are worth the trade off for eye watering depreciation. at a certain level of success it no longer matters, which is why these markets exist. These cars ARE NOT made for people thinking about budget or reliability, and so the market responds to their demands accordingly.
