There are so many bad deck videos. Thank you for providing exactly what I needed to design a code compliant deck.

Good stuff. What uplift straps (hurricane ties) do you like to use when you have angled beams running under your joists? Or do you just toe nail for simplicity?

In Saskatoon Canada (and probably other parts of Canada) 4x8’s don’t pass as beam material unless it’s ok’d by an engineer. Otherwise we have to use a double 2x8 nailed together. It sucks.

What is that black membrane that you have sitting on top of each of those joists?

VA DIYer seeking advice on unusual project: I have a deck built on top of a carport roof with waterproof Duradek fabric on top, which is a filthy, uncleanable, stain-magnet. For a cleaner look, I intend to set a simple floating frame of 2x4s on top (with joist tape), without puncturing the Duradek, and attach Timbertech pro boards on top. Contractor suggested a waterproof underlayment to protect the Duradek from wear, but I'm afraid of creating a space in between for mold/mildew to grow. Good or bad idea?

Where does this guy do his work? I want to hire him !!! Also.... he needs to make a video about the new "PIERS" supports for decks.

I built my 20x25 deck by myself. 4x8x20 is too heavy to deal with, especially transferring them from the driveway in the front of the house. I used 2 2x8's and screwed them together after putting each on the posts. Applying sealant between the joint and water proof felt unto that. Used PCV Eon back in 2003. $4,200 back then, 21 happy years

Nice one, can i ask you a question, seen you ripping a lot of trex, im doing that now on a DIY project, i notice you do everything premium, do you treat cut ends of trex boards when you cut them? Thanks

I am indeed using 2x6 for my joists. That said they are sitting perpendicular on top of 5.5x6" beams. They never have to span anymore than 4' and they are placed 16" on center. Any thoughts?

How far can a 2x8 span between supports?

What is the difference between hemlock versus yellow pine?
@mikez41323 жыл бұрын
Yellow pine is a little stronger. Hem is used more on the West coast.

Dude! This, again, but with fasteners. Many are obvious and repeated but some are hard to find in your vids.
