Hello Milly! Thanks for all the videos you share with us. I have a question. I don’t see how placing the ball of a cutter on top of a scored sheet of glass and pressing down on either side would work to break a piece of glass. Would you mind explain with a bit more detail please?
@everything-stained-glass Жыл бұрын
I show the tapping technique in this video Matilda, which is when you gently tap along the underside of the score line you've made with the ball of the cutter, which opens the score up along its length. I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about putting the ball of the cutter on top of the glass, sorry.

Thank you for the videos. I’m replacing a lot of diamond shaped stained glass in an old church building. I’ve been using a Taurus 3 diamond cutter, because my glass breaking skills are poor. How would you go about cutting 5 inch diamond shaped glass by hand? I have had a lot of bad breaks with thin glass, and stained glass that’s wavy on one side.

You're welcome. I have a video on this page about cutting straight lines: everythingstainedglass.com/cutting-techniques I hope it helps.

Hi, I'm a mosaic artist who uses stained glass and in need of some advice! I have a composition that I'm not sure I can pull off, but it would require cutting the glass into extremely narrow 4" long strips to resemble quills or needles. Do you think this can be done? Thanks!
@everything-stained-glass2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can Angel. I have a video on Cutting Thin Strips here: everythingstainedglass.com/stained-glass-cutting . I hope this helps, Milly

Could you please tell me what kind of material you solder on? I am so glad you are filming! There are so few stained glass artists on KZbin! I am getting to the point where I can set up shop again, after my grandson is older and moved out.

It varies from homasote to granite to formica worktop Linda. I have a page on soldering boards here if you'd like to check it out: everythingstainedglass.com/stained-glass-soldering-boards

Hello, I know this a video about running, but I have a question about cutters that no one seems to know the answer to. Some cutters have a very narrow head that holds the wheel, and some are wide. What is the difference? Are some better suited for straight vs curves?
@everything-stained-glass4 жыл бұрын
Good question Margaret. Yes, the wide cutter heads are better for cutting large sheets of glass. You can read about that here: everythingstainedglass.com/cutting-art-glass . I hope that helps.

What is the surface of the table you are cutting on? It looks slightly soft.

It's lino with a sheet of white paper over it for the filming so that the glass shows up Sean.

Every time I try things with glass, I end up breaking it everywhere but where I want to cut it... You make it look so easy...
@everything-stained-glass4 жыл бұрын
Keep at it John, you'll get there. It sounds counter-intuitive but you might be pressing too hard. You could practice on some double strength window glass to get the hang of it without breaking expensive glass. Good luck

No fudging way!!!! You can score and break a curved line? How sharp of a curve can a thin piece of glass handle? Can I do a square with small rounded corners?
@everything-stained-glass3 жыл бұрын
Laughed! Yes, you can cut all sorts of shapes from glass. Whether they're a stable shape afterwards (in terms of likelihood to break) is a different thing, and one to be aware of. You can just about get away with a square with rounded corners - I show how in my short Conquering Curves course here: www.everything-stained-glass-school.com/p/conquering-curves-1 Good luck :-)
