I'm wearing a stainless steel 31 jewel automatic dive watch. It keeps excellent time. It gets attention. It gets compliments. Its an 090 Vostok Amphibia. It costs $73. I can't imagine a watch that costs four times more than my car, that does virtually everything this one does yet is less waterproof.

great watch. Should have made it into this list :-D , the 090 is by far the nicer Amphibia imho. I would wear my Amphibias more often if they just had developed a quicker setup for the calendar (it is a problem if you like to change watch every few days). But they are keepers, I love and use them as well as my Omegas and Seikos.

Unusually, I felt incredibly ignored at my Omega AD. Did they have watches in stock? Yes. But they acted like I wasn’t a serious customer and ignored my pricing questions as if I wasn’t a buyer. I went into my Rolex AD (no purchase history) and was treated like royalty. No watches in stock, but I was sat down, offered a drink, and enjoyed an exciting conversation with the rep. I was assured that I will receive a sub, it will just take a few months. Insane how backwards this seems from what most people declare online. Hope I actually get it 😂
@janelavie41152 жыл бұрын
You will get a submariner in just a few months? I highly doubt that.
@rammillim55552 жыл бұрын
If they told you that, you can believe them. You took the time to sit down and have a nice conversation with a rep... you know, like normal humans do. I'm sure they have plenty of people that come in and ask to be on the waitlist. They're not in a rush to fool you into thinking you're gonna get one. What you may not know is that it's also a part of their process... they're vetting you as you speak. And this is why building a relationship (a human one) is so important. Believe it or not, but some of these ADs really want these watches to go to good homes. And they are doing a lot to ensure that happens. With everything that's going on right now on the gray market, you can't blame them for their apprehension. There is so much negativity out there about Rolex, ADs, and the gray market but as with all things, at the end of the day it's a matter of supply and demand. Can't hate on Rolex just because so many people want their watches. That's ludicrous. I know plenty of people who had little to no purchase history that were awarded the opportunity (after 2-6 months waiting) to buy the Rolex they wanted simply because they built a relationship with an AD that wasn't necessarily monetary. They were just being enthusiasts looking for the watch they wanted. Why isn't that a real thing anymore? Why do we walk into ADs with a sh*t attitude like these guys are the enemy? If you can prove to these guys you're not another snarky, bitter a-hole that whine on the internet about how they can't get a watch then maybe... Just maybe you've got a good chance. Good luck brotha and hope you get it!!

The story about the GS boutique and JLC should be a lesson for all salesmen. Buying a car once I was choosing between an Audi, Mercedes Benz and a BMW. At Audi and MB they basically scoffed at me when I said how much I wanted to spend as I wasn't exactly wearing my best as I'd just been to work and the clothes were a bit on the dirty side from work. At BMW the salesman sat me down, got me coffee and had a really good chat about what I was looking for. In the end I was so happy with how I was treated at BMW I actually spent a lot more than I had originally planned. One bad salesman's loss is a good salesman's gain. So just like my experience with BMW I'm sure that those guys at Grand Seiko got plenty of sales at JLC's expense.

Would recommend any Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Vastly superior from a technical finishing perspective, as evident from the price differential. Lots of people will say the standard FF is too large and only Rolex keeps value. True but I don’t buy watches as a store of value because there are other things better suited. As for the size, limited edition FFs are smaller and you can sometimes get them below retail new and on secondary market they go above retail if you ban find one.

If I never flip then what does resale matter to me? If I wanted an appreciating asset I'd buy stocks, bonds, or gold. A watch is something you consume slowly over time not an asset you hoard

@@thomasdavis8117 Perhaps an immediate dip after purchase but some brands will quadruple in a few decades. Ugg! I can only imagine what Rolex watches will be selling for then.

My knockoff Sub gets a lot of attention...from hookers and probably muggers, if I'm not careful. I think I paid 50 bucks for it. Kind of glad I don't have a real one.

Jory great video. I love my Sea Dweller but the diver I wear most is my Seiko SRP777 on a Strapcode Super-J "Louis" bracelet. The offset crown is perfect it doesn't smash into my wrist like other dive watches I've had.

I watched this video a month or so ago and was really taken with the Glashutte Original. So now I’m an owner of one-my first luxury watch!

I think the standard Seiko Marine Master 300 is a better watch than the Rolex Submariner. Actually I own the Seiko SBDC033 Blumo/Sumo and I think that’s a better watch than the Rolex Submariner.

Check out the Enrivia 1000mm diver at 300 bucks. I own a sea dweller and this blows it away I love it. Crazy

How about doing a vid on better alternatives for the DEEPSEA SEA-DWELLER for those of us that prefer a larger, better fitting wrist presence? The Cartier, Grand Seiko & possibly your MarineMaster quartz are a nice start but, how about some alternatives that can compete with the DEEPSEA SEA-DWELLER depth rating? BTW - totally enjoyed this Submariner alternative vid⌚😎👍

10:22 this is outrageous, they actually have and sell the watches in that store? Not 8 yr waiting list to sniff the watch?

The Seiko Arnie, with a steel shroud, Strapco bracelet and MarineMaster clasp makes a good SBBN031 twin, for half the price. Though if you want something you can actually take diving without any stress, a Casio Duro is thee thing.

Casio Duro deserves more love. Just replace the original rubber strap.

I just don't get this whole "there are no Submariners out there!" - I found one last weekend at a local MALL...at the ZALES...for $15k. It was a basic model in black/stainless with a date complication...but there it was. Guy hinted he'd probably take $14k for it. What am I missing here?

Thanks, we have different taste, but I appreciate your persspective. If you are a diver, look at the Seiko Monster family. Uses the difference to pay for the trip. Cheers ! Nothing like looking at a watch you took on a cave dive when you are working to remind you of what you could be doing.

when looking at the Cartier, i think of the accutron ad: it's not a timepiece, it's a conversation piece. yeah the design is a bit crazed - compared to the tight design margins of most tool watches - but i like it!!

I tried on the Glashutte at an AD in Chicago and it was fantastic. I only wish it had the movement with 100 hour power reserve and display caseback of its bigger brother the, panorama date.

If you're a watch enthusiast you KNOW that there are many dive watches better than the Submariner. Better looks, better specs, better price and most important always accessible. Now if you are one of those people who lust over the Submariner my advice is stay in the list and get your beloved grail watch. If you're normal do the research and find which diving watch suits you best. I'm sure you will.

I have the 16610 Sub and the Go sea q panorama date, the bigger brother. Both exceptional . I would postulate, having owned my sub ref for 32 years that nothing beats the pre ceramics. The Go is exceptional too, and if it was a choice between the new sub and the GO I would go for the GO. ....Why? Nobody knows what it is, it flys so low under the radar and its a classic in the making.
