One thing I started with my black lab Dakota is place when he was 5 month old. It only took about 3 hours total. Now 6 months o, he's getting better. Love following your page and have been saving all your posts. Thank you so much for your love and passion for what you do.

Absolutely agree about the loose lead. My dog pulled so much I hated taking him out for walks. To fix the problem I started to stop immediately he started pulling & didn’t move until lead lost the tension. Needless to say as soon as I moved he would pull, so I’d stop & do it again & again & again. Slowly it started to click with him & we’d get more steps & I’d stop. Yes the walks took a lot longer, but it was worth it. Now 99% of the time he walks loose lead & our walks are awesome. Also, I use a mobility scooter to walk him, so this is an added problem. But we did & now we love our walks ❤🐾

My german shepherd girl, Lucy knows a lot of commands, but not "place". She has gotten a lot better at heel, but she's a big smeller and likes to wander a bit! She has great recall and will stop her prey drive on the "leave it" command. So 2 things I need to work on are heel and place!

For dogs like that when you're working on the heel make your reward the sniffing and smelling that she wants to do that way she knows that she has to work and then she will be free to smell.

Something ya might wanna do is make sure you are confident and not anxious yourself before ya even grab the lead to go for a walk. It took me a while to get my state of mind correct before I take my 120lbs Mastador for a walk but once I did it made a huge difference.

@@ryanatkinson6606 I know you are absolutely correct and that my uncertainty is a huge part. It's healing my PTSD that is probably necessary right but then how can he /others be trained as PSD if I'm the psycho with the issue trying to train him?? 🤪🤦😔
@pittymama4500
@pittymama4500 7 ай бұрын
@@jadeenvy1121 I had to get through this with my self-trained PSD. It sounds like a catch 20/20 I know... But it's as simple as that. If you yourself are not there yet then y'all are not ready for those enviorment. This is going to be more about you than the dog. He won't be fearful and reactive when you become confident so all of the stressing about what might happen and what if this happens and what if this dog does this is only creating the failure before you ever get there. You've got to be able to tell yourself that you can handle whatever comes. Until then you've got to take a step back to an environment that you yourself are are comfortable and confident. I promise you will see a tremendous change in his behavior but to keep letting him practice the bad behavior and being fearful is only creating a habit that you're going to have a harder time breaking later on remember to try not to let the dog rehearse bad behaviors because every time they rehearse it, it is adding to the likelihood that they won't stop. And it is absolutely possible to create all of that fear, for a dog that would have been normally a confident dog. It's easy to ruin them for being a service dog. In order to be a service dog they must be confident. It's imperative that your dog is able to focus on their job and not on fear. So be very careful about what position you put them in. This reason probably discounts a lot of people that could use a service dog from having one.

Nice to see you training a spaniel, we have a setter (our 3rd and most challenging,first one not neutered!) and they can be as food motivated. Loves a toy that dispenses food, keeps him busy for hours. Have encouraged eye contact, loose lead walking (still a bit of a challenge using a dogmatic/Halti) as too heavy with slip. But have issues with reactions to certain dogs a miniature schnauzer, pug (that sounds like it’s a screaming child, owner walks with a gentle German shepherd you can’t get near bc of pug) and dachshund who all bark at him, he got close with two other (working and bearded) collies and the schnauzer snapped at him. He barked back and the collies joined in. The owners seem to just accept the behaviour of their dogs and are rewarding for the wrong behaviour! Tried to walk on and guide even offered a biscuit as a distraction to give once the correct behaviour was shown but he still reacts, saw Pet corrector air spray, he make him jump, not sure it was worth the money, won’t but another 20 pumps in 50ml! We just need him to ignore the other dog. It has come to it if we see any of them we turn around to avoid the behaviour but harder in the coming months with dark nights. The dog in question seem to be very well known to other dog owners who comment about their barking to other dogs. Walked in different areas with variety of dogs and he’s been brilliant. Our dog has been well socialised with other dogs and noise etc from very young. Family life has changed in the past few months with a breast cancer diagnosis and a year worth of active treatment plus tablets for 5 years. I’m sure the dog can sense things are different. We are daily encouraging eye contact, when rewarding for ball retrieval or give food, stop on walk and ask for ‘look at me’ while pointing, slowly he does it on his own a bit. He has regular walks an play sessions.

Hi, I was wondering for a little advice if possible. I have a 10 week old presa canario and it wont be long before he is able to go out for walks. I am wanting to buy his leash and everything ready but am struggling on what is best to walk him on. I was going to get him a slip leash but have been told by people that hes to young for a slip leash (he cant go out yet but when he is ready he will still be too young for it). Just want to know what you would advice to use for his walks. Thank you for your time I love your vidoes.

I have a question for you regarding vocal dogs. I own a German spitz, medium size. She is 9. Still super playful, energetic, great around kids, and loves humans. I have 2 issues with her though, the biggest one being BARKING 😅 I know German spitz are known to be very vocal, and it can be very useful at times (very good alerting dog! If the mailman comes by and forgets to use the bell on the main gate, I never miss a package because she will be barking as soon as she spots him meters away 😂) but it can be a pain in the butt as she will bark at anything and anyone ! Never managed to teach her to stop. Also how do I teach her to differentiate when she can bark and when not to bark? 😬 she’s been to 2 dog trainers already to no avail. At this point I just gave up…

Among dogs, eye contact can be considered a challenge. More submissive dogs will require more training on this to feel like it's ok and to know that's what you want. More independent dogs sometimes struggle with eye contact, too.

My dog has shown aggression towards the person that has used a shock collar and spanking as a means of training. He is clearly afraid of him but won’t listen to me that he is the one causing these issues but blames the dog and me. From a professional is it the way he is training the dog or just the dog?
@sifumode9460
@sifumode9460 7 ай бұрын
From an amateur, focus on positive reinforcement. Rewarded behavior is repeated behavior. For instance, you open the door and the dog rushes outside. It takes you 30 minutes to catch them and you're going to be late for work. It's relatable that you want to punish. However, the dog can escape you all day if it wanted to. It LET you catch him. If you immediately spank the dog the moment you catch it, what did the dog learn? Getting caught is bad. If instead, he gets a jackpot of treats the moment you have his collar, he learns getting caught is good. There are times where a shock collar is a useful tool. And running away would be one example. Every time it escapes, a shock can be a reinforcement that says he's not paying attention and can be good, so long as it is not used to attempt to punish. It should be used to overcome distractions when you cannot reach the dog to get their attention, not as punishment. If you can reach the dog to spank it, there's pretty much always a better way. I really struggled with barking. The dog simply would not stop and it felt like every attempt to get the dog to stop only made it bark more. I went to the internet and found a suggestion. Teach the dog to speak. Reward every time the dog barks on command. Now, the dog is only barking because I said to, not because it has been triggered by something, which means the dog will want to stop on its own. Now, I can command "quiet" and reward when the dog stops barking. This finally worked. No amount of spankings would have ever gotten it through to this dog. She simply had no idea what I wanted, so I could not reward the good behavior until I learned this trick.

Considering a dog. I have a pit/lab mix; 11 years old female She had a lab "brother" until recently when he passed of cancer I live alone, so long periods in the house without me when I go to work I'm a house potato. I want to adopt a dog of similar age, so 10-12 years old. I prefer a single-coat, smooth coat dog for ease of self-grooming, and a minor preference for less shedding. I prefer dogs in the 40-100 lbs range. From my experience, I think a lab is probably the best choice. The only reason I don't say a golden is due to the double coat, so I guess that's on the table. I love their personalities, it's just the shedding and long baths/brushing sessions. I just recently heard of the mix of the two, a "goldador". However, there are many breeds I haven't spent time around and was looking for suggestions. Since I will be adopting, I probably need to be less selective than only considering labs.

@sifumode9460 I personally wouldn't have any outside dogs, I live in Scotland so the climate is not good for a short haired dog outside. They are genuinely pretty laid-back dogs, they do need quite a bit of exercise, but as you said you wanted an older dog probably not so much as say a 2 year old. They are loving dogs who will be part of the family and see themselves as human also 😂 They are pretty goofy but also protective.

I know this is a long shot but I have no other choice! We have an extremely aggressive American bully, we have had many trainers who have given up half way through saying “there’s nothing I can do for you” we’ve reached out to boarding/training facilities and no one will take him. He has an extreme overbite which makes fitting a muzzle impossible and he is redirecting his aggression out on my and my husband and I have had many large bites (none requiring a hospital) but he can do a lot of damage and we don’t know what to do… he will DEFINITELY get put down if we give him to a shelter. I’m begging for help because no one wants to help!!!

I'm so sorry that you are going through that. It's tough when the people that are supposed to be able to help you don't know what to tell you. It's hard for anyone to advise you on here just because there's so many different types of aggression and so many causes that it would definitely take somebody that can be one-on-one with you and it's about a lifestyle change and teaching you how to handle those things so that it can be managed.
