Nice handling tips. Here are few more 1. Sharp side moves (when surprised by a pothole or person crossing the road or anything else you need to suddenly go around) it is easier to turn your bike with you hip/bum 2. Controlled slide. Useful in wet conditions or off paved road.

One of the best videos I have seen on your channel! Great content and well explained.... I will sure include that and follow your instructions on some of my next rides.... Great off season stuff!
@kevinthomson63244 жыл бұрын
I find I need to work on looking over my shoulder and still ride in a straight line. I always find myself drifting in the direction I twist my neck. Which often is making me move towards the traffic I’m checking on. Also the bunny hop can be a very valuable skill to protect you and your wheels/tires from curbs potholes speed bumps etc.
@acanfield878 ай бұрын
@kevinthomson6324--one of the ways to help counter this is move your corresponding hand from the outside of the bars closer to the center or stem. If you are looking over your left shoulder (most likely) then move your left had to the top of the bars, say in the middle between the hoods and stem. This will reduce the tendency to veer left when looking left.

Thank You Conor, Great Vid. These could be done before a ride while waiting for your mates. And these skills will make it safer for all the riders in the group.
@SioLazer4 жыл бұрын
these are fantastic! reminds me of how you do drills on the MTB to develop handling on trails. Hats off! I would not be able to speak so eloquently on a climb like you did at the beginning of the video. But the last 45 seconds of the video were difficult to understand because you were free wheeling down hill. Not a complaint there, but it made me think of something helpful I learned. When I'm out on the road with other people and cars, I like to lightly pedal so as to avoid the shrill sound. Usually, this is only when approaching an intersection where I want to use my ears in addition to my eyes. It's not as tricky as picking up a bidon from the ground for sure though. Very nice moves Conor!

@@legrandempereurcosmique5142 I think the GCN did a video about it, but you basically get the front wheel up by shifting your body weight back and pulling up on the handlebars, and once the front wheel is of the ground you move your weight forwards. It's a little dated but I wrote a short book on improving your road bike handling skills (Watch Your Line). Some of my favorite drills to help folks improve their skills are learning to ride hands-free, riding circles in your driveway (both directions!), riding the white line, and rubbing tires on the grass. But one of the best things you can do is get a mountain bike and ride trails fast. It will organically improve your handling--and falling--skills. There is a reason that everyone raves about the bike handling skills of MVDP, Pidcock, and other cross or MTB cyclists.

Confused about the MB corning technique with pedals at 3 o'clock-9 o'clock vs the road bike 6-12. If you're cornering on dirt on a gravel bike, which do you use, when & why?
@aaronparsons8774 жыл бұрын
If you are on an MB the terrain will not be smooth. Could be rocks, tufts of grass, tree roots on either side that could clip a pedal - having them both higher means less likely to hit anything. Cornering on dirt you’re likely not leaning as much on the bike as you might on the road either. On the road you can easily go around a bend and scrape a pedal in the floor if it’s the inside pedal that’s down.

#1 skill : Learn how to brake properly on rim brakes. Solution : Don't be a clown and setup the pads where only a paper can sneak through, give the pads 4 mm on each side. This will allow for a 50% contact at half pull, this will allow to feather your brake pads against the rim. To brake simply rotate from back to front on the levers rapidly and feather the contact of the pads to gain control of any corners and without sliding the back wheel. This requires an alert sense of direction and traffic around you as the pads will only contact at 50% pull. This braking method saves your pads, your carbon wheel brake tracks and your aluminum wheels as well.
