I m a high-contrast person, and I do not like browns, tans, camel...however, I was surprised by how MUCH I liked the low-contrast outfit with the cafe-au-lait blazer, creamy tee, light wash jeans, and beige sandals. It was perfection!

I will be 70 years old in a few short months and, believe it or not, I have some basics and accessories that I have been wearing for decades! I was doing “consignment” shopping in the 1970s! Canadians In Da House! Hi from BC! Happy Bday, Colleen! I'm 58 and have a similar story; wearing some pieces for decades! When they're good they're good! I love the sling backs. I have a 3 pairs in different colours and they elevate EVERYTHING. The tiny heel makes them so wearable which is often a drawback to heels, one can’t walk!

It's funny, I never think of myself as having go to formulas until I realised I was sitting watching this wearing jeans, a tank and a button up shirt! My shirt was tied at the waist, but I had to go look and see what it might look like if I wrapped it, and yep, it looked great. I always love these formulas. They make it easy to see how I can recreate them in my own closet! I’d love a video about maybe the psychological element of dressing in new styles or being a bit more experimental in your style. i.e. When you try a new outfit/style/combo how do you tell when something honestly doesn’t flatter you, vs. maybe you’re just out of your comfort zone a bit or you’re not used to seeing that silhouette on yourself (example: if you always wear skinny jeans and you suddenly try on a more relaxed or wide leg style, how would you determine if that jean is not flattering to you, vs if it’s just out of your comfort zone a bit but actually looks good). Hope that all made sense!

Just as a note, I have come to realize (or believe) some outfits are just "too" chic, or structured, or loud for some places. I live in a very casual town and I would feel like everyone is staring at me or I'm wearing a costume because everyone around me is wearing jeans and a sweatshirt... I just can't get over it; even though I know i should wear what i feel good in, or maybe others see me and think "i wish i could wear that", my personal or cultural/learned "rules" from my parents or peers (I'm 58) - I still feel too uncomfortable, as it feels inappropriate. I usually dress "up" if I'm in a big city, a fashion event, or in Europe.

I loved the camel blazer with the black top and shorts (though it would be black slacks or skirt for me). I kept waiting to see the white/ black trimmed cardigan + black tee + black pants. I also thought the same white cardigan and one of the black tops might work well with the b&w print skirt. Totally expected? Yes. But surely totally effective as well. Good episode, Alyssa. Thanks.

Love your style Alyssa! However, for me, when it’s warm enough to wear shorts, it’s to hot to wear a sweater and a blazer or a jacket - I’d be boiling. And if it’s not so warm to feel comfortable in a sweater and a jacket, then it’s too cold for my legs to wear shorts. Somehow like that

I've been 13 years building my wardrobe back up again starting from nothing. (It's a long sob story) It's been that long basically cos I started from being on Unemployment to now, having 3 businesses! And just 6 years ago I decided to do the Classic basics type of clothing. And it's been an exciting journey back to how my Mom used to dress, Classic Chic. Mostly Neutrals with some Pops of bright colors maybe in like the scarf, the shoes and or the handbag!😎

One question re: the outfits - though I love the look of the shorts + sweater + blazer: aren't your legs getting really cold in that? aw yes, I had to take a short break! Yes - this is a great q, I had someone else ask as well. This is definitely a combo for transitional seasons and can only be worn on those days where a blazer might not always be needed if that makes sense. The core of the look is simply the sweater + shorts. I would go with a darker pair of tights instead of nude! I hope this helps! xx

Love these outfits! I'm going to try wearing shorts with long sleeved sweater for spring. I used to love doing that when I was younger, but no reason I can't do it now, right? I just can't get used to a clunky athletic shoe with dressier outfits. To do my own thing with that look, how about wearing a lighter looking, more feminine sneaker, something like Vans?

Hi Alyssa, you may be back in Canada this weekend? If so, happy homecoming (to your closet???)! Regardless, this is excellent especially for those in cooler climates. I have black and white capris in place of a print skirt that would go well with with a black sweater and white t. Also I need to find an oversize blazer as a basic one cannot accommodate all the layers but I do like the look in general. Also the belt is just a key accessory, isn't it?
