I'd like to make a maxi circle skirts and palazzo (I've always pronounced it puh - lah - zo) pants!

I bought a robe in a fabric/pattern from a brand I love, but that doesn't make a few wardrobe staples that I want. My plan was to turn the robe into a skater/above-the-knee circle skirt and a hoodie. However, since I bought a larger size than I wear to have extra fabric for the skirt, I forgot to account for the top being _way_ too big for me. I can't just cut off the bottom of the robe to set aside for the skirt, hem the top section, and add a closure mechanism as planned. I was thinking snaps for the closure, because they're fun, and they aren't as much work as a zipper or buttons. If I were to make the cardigan, I'd need to take the top of the robe apart and re-fit each piece to my body. My sewing level is probably beginner-level. When I was 8-13-ish, I used to help my mom make clothes for me by choosing patterns and fabric, pinning and cutting out the pattern, and running some of the easier seams and hems. I was tiny, so the clothes that fit me from stores were completely inappropriate for my age (this was back in the late 1980's to early 1990's, long before girls' clothes became smaller versions of adult clothes). So, she made a few great pieces that I wore for picture day, choir recitals, and other important events. Mama had a sewing machine that was ancient when it was given to her something like fifty years ago. That's the machine I learned on. It could reliably only do two kinds of stitches. Hubs just bought me a modern sewing machine. It feels like going from a horse and buggy to a spaceship: I could press random buttons and hope for the best, but I'm just as likely to make it go as to inadvertently trigger the self-destruct. 😅 If you're curious about the robe I'm starting with, it's the Unisex Hooded Modal Robe in the pattern Give A Duck (which seems to be gone from the site, but it is rubber-ducky-type ducks on a bright blue background) from the brand MeUndies. I bought an XL/2XL. My actual size is probably two sizes smaller, so there's a significant difference between the robe's dimensions and my body . . . except, I have a larger-than-average bosom for my frame. So, that likely involves adding princess seams, so I'm not swimming in fabric. This project seems like it has a lot in common with a short version of your kimono duster and either the elastic-waisted skirt or the circle skirt (though, I don't know if I have enough fabric for a full circle skirt). I'd *love* to see how you would tackle a project like this. 💙

I live in the PNW and that poncho was SO cute! I'd love to make it for those days that are too warm for a jacket, but too cold to go out in just a blouse.

This is the video Ive been looking for!!! The very first thing is exactly what I’ve been wanting to wear and to realise I can just make it!!?? I have never felt confident worh a sewing machine and never really made anything. I have just acquired 2 antique singer machines and am excited to sew something proper with them!! I went to the thrift store and bought a bunch of flat sheets for 99 cents to practice on! I found a couple really cute cotton Polly blends that I'm going to save until I get better and maybe use for an actual dress or even a circle skirt! LOL!

I love your videos! I was a beginner for a long time cause I used to be sooooo hard on myself! When I got more into the progress aspect I had more fun and got better fast! Palazzo is palace in Italian and it‘s pronounced pa! La! Zoh! Like you would say it if you were showing guests around your marble palace wearing your Gucci palazzo pants! ❤️

Cant the palazzo be done in woven fabric? Why?
@MondesThreads2 жыл бұрын
They sure can. The only thing you have to be careful of is the crotch area and how wide they are. Woven fabric is easy to work with but not so forgiving because it doesn't have stretch
@mariemarie5282 жыл бұрын
@@MondesThreads won't you do a nice tutorial someday to explain how to measure and do a decent woven pant . I find woven fabric cheaper to work with but not many sewing tutorials on woven fabrics.
