Another "I bought a sewing machine during the pandemic, and it stayed in the box" person here. I've been so intimidated by it for years now. But after watching this video, I think I've found a channel I can watch and learn along with, since there aren't any in person 'sewing club' or 'community class' sessions for easily intimidated types like myself lol Thank you for being detailed without going off on tangents. A lot of people when they're trying to teach beginners will skip steps because they've forgotten all the things they actually had to learn along the way. Assume nothing is previously known, a step is never obvious enough to skip verbalizing, and never talk down while explaining. 👍

I really love that you showed different ways to practice sewing at the end. Also, the best piece of advice I ever received when I started sewing was to NOT FOLLOW THE NEEDLE. I think that most new sewists just instinctively keep an eye on the thing that is moving the fastest on the sewing machine. I've halted many projects because I couldn't sew a straight line. Glad to see more people giving this advice to newbies.

I have never sewn before, except once with hand sewing a hole in my winter hat, So I want to start, and so I am gonna pick up a cheap used machine at a thrift shop and learn, But I was not sure how to tell if the machine even works or has its parts and whatnot. I haven't touched a sewing machine since high school Sewing I, (60 years ago), but believe it or not, the set up part with the thread, bobbin and loading the machine with thread, all came back to me as I watched your excellent tutorial!
