Good stuff bro! Here’s a little tip from me to you that helps me save hundreds of plastics a year without sacrificing the action of the bait. It’s really helped me from running out the past couple months on flatworms.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nau4aJ9-oNCgqKc

welcome back. perfect timing content wise, as that is pretty much the only fishing technique working right now on my lakes for big smallmouth. I cruise around until I find fish on the graph at my console, mark a waypoint that transfer to my front graph/trolling motor and then use the go to feature on my trolling motor to take me right back to that spot. Once I figured this out, it turned a very slow day into a fairly productive day. That said, the other thing that I noticed is that even in 30' foot of water, if my boat was right over the fish, they wouldn't bite. I had to back off several feet to get them comfortable again. The other thing this time of year presents as a challenge, is they are chasing bait fish, versus stuck to structure, so they may bein that spot for a couple of minutes, and then they are gone, chasing the bait fish. So it is a game of constant movement if you want to catch fish. And the ONLY thing that would get them to bite, as a drop shot. Not a tube. Not a ned. Not a Wacky/Neko worm. A drop shot was all that would work. Finicky bite, but man, when you get one, they are getting fat as they feed up for the fall run into winter....

You are 100% spot on. It's the same way here as well. Fish are super mobile because those deeper fish (and some shallower fish) tend to be on baitfish over flats with isolated boulders or cover. Dropshotting is the only technique I've found to be efficient right now, but if you can find them roaming a flat, fishing a blade bait has also caught me a few fish

@@brnowak_fishing The other technique that has worked pretty well for me when they start roaming flats/shallower waters chasing bait fish is to use a spy bait. I watched a couple of your spy baiting videos last year, so this year I had invested in a couple of different types of spy baits and I caught my first spy bait fish last week and it was an awesome bite. I'm hooked. It's clearly a time of year thing, almost like jerk baiting, but when you can actually entice big small mouth to attack a spy bait it's incredibly fun. Looking forward to the fall transition which is happening here in Maine earlier than I ever recall.

I was just thinking about this the other day. People never talk about line angle or bottom contour when it comes to leader length. Nice job man.

I really appreciate the level of detail and insight that you put into the information in this video, its a 10 minute drop shot clinic. I bought a Berkley Power Bait drop shot kit from Gander in the late 90's. It is the best $15 I have ever spent. It is an effective technique and presentation.

Great Tips!!! I have a medium light slow action rod and it has a very light tip that goes into a lot of backbone. I was wondering if that would be a good option

Are you mixing up leader length with distance from hook to weight?
@brnowak_fishing
@brnowak_fishing 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, distance from hook to weight is what I mean by leader length. My length from hook to braid is limited because I run a swivel on my dropshot

I use powell med light extra fast for my drop shotting..I definitely noticed the lost fish on the surge..1 thing I noticed that helped alot,was the hook..I was using the gami am drop shot hook & the owner mosquito light..They are both light wire hooks & "flex" alot..I switched over to the standard owner mosquito hook & my land ratio increased tremendously...

Awesome video Ben 👍🏻 QQ; Lately it seems as if all of the Major Events on our Northern Lakes have been dominated with a Dropshot rather than a Tube. In previous years it has been a similar ratio as well. Is it the advancement of sonar systems and the technique it brings, or is the time of year and deeper water?? I have always favored a tube, but that may change. What's your thoughts?

I think you explained the actions of the rod in reverse. An extra fast bends further down the rod including the very limber tip. The less action, the stiffer the rod
@brnowak_fishing
@brnowak_fishing 3 жыл бұрын
Hey David - Actually, the slower the rod, the further down the blank it bends. Extra Fast has the lightest tip section, but transfers quickly into backbone/stiff rod - Think 90/10 or 80/20, Backbone to tip Fast = 70/30 ModFast = 60/40 Moderate/Slow has closest to a true parabolic action where the load is distributed equally throughout the blank and the rod bends equally across the length of the blank to the handle

Sorry man but I have cheap $100 combos and they work just fine for drop shot, Texas rig or wacky rig. No need to spend hundreds on too many rod and reals. Typical average combo is just as good for all these styles of fishing.
