Thank you for this. I was reading my Bible the other day and in Psalms it mentioned a 10 string lyre. I thought hmm I have never really had any musical background but thought I will buy 16 string lyre and then came across this. I played amazing grace to my sweet mother in law. She loved it. God Bless.

@@SamanthaonMars Why are you playing one octave higher than normal human singing range? Your lyre should sound better when played one octave lower.
@SamanthaonMars2 жыл бұрын
@@set3777 The lyre sounds better in real life than captured on a phone, LOL. My phone collected the higher notes better so I guess that's why. Same reason why I played on a table (I play upright most of the time), to allow the sounds to bounce from the table to the phone.
@set37772 жыл бұрын
@@SamanthaonMars Thanks. I was just wondering why you did not play from G3 to A4 to get more resonance. I think you were playing from G4 to A5 so I thought the sound was too metallic. I only have a "box type" lyre so I don't know the sound of a bowl type lyre in real life.

Hi. I think it's easier to learn with the notes written out too! My 16-string lyres from Aklot all came with the notes engraved. I've seen multiple people in the comment secotion on this channel ask "can you play this song on a seven string lyre?" The answer is yes. (I will be posting this comment on every video so everyone can see it). I had the same problem so I tuned my lyre to be E F G A B C D so I'd be able to play *almost* any song on this channel. The only problem in tuning the lyre this way is that you can't play 2 of the same notes on the lyre on higher cords. Example: (G G') When that happens just play the singular G note. if it looks like this: G G' -Just play the G note twice It works but you may have to occasionally tune the cords for certain songs that are higher or lower pitched of your song. This way works (for most songs)and I know because I learned a few songs already!

What brand of lyre harp do you recommend for us beginners to buy? Is it easy to learn this instrument by hearing music then making one? Thanks 😊
@SamanthaonMars3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I've only ever used Aklot (16 strings) and Donner (7 string), and I can say they make pretty good lyres for their price points. There are other brands out there so be sure to check around. The number of strings is also an important consideration. 16 is a good range for beginners, or maybe even 19. I think it's quite easy to play the lyre by ear because it's a diatonic instrument. It simplifies playing by having only the white keys of the piano. It can be a drawback sometimes but overall the lyre is easier than many other instruments. Hope it helps. :)

Hi there! Your videos are lovely and so informative. I'm about to acquire my very first lyre, and it seems like resources are limited out there, so it's wonderful to have found your channel. I do have a newbie question. Do you or anyone else that writes out the notes like this have a way to notate how long each note is held for? I know in sheet music it is, but when notes are written out simplistically like this, do you have ways of showing how long each note is? Or is it more interpreted just by listening when learning this way? Hopefully my question makes sense!😅
@SamanthaonMars Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words! Your question makes perfect sense. You're correct that when the notes are written out simple like this, the duration of each note is not specified, and is usually interpreted by listening. Having the notes written alongside the lyrics can be helpful, and I provide that on my Patreon for songs with lyrics. However, for precise indications of the duration of each note (and each pause), sheet music is the best way to go. 😊

Lyre's coordination is often loosened. There's a video of coordinating with glue. Can I do that?
@SamanthaonMars2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Sorry I don't know what you mean and which video you're talking about. I'm guessing you mean the strings often get out of tune? This is normal for new strings. Give it about a week, tune everyday, the strings should stay in tune better. If one or two strings still won't stay in tune, it may be because of a loose peg. You may try follow the instructions in this video by "Learning the Lyre Harp" group: kzbin.info/www/bejne/amHNgqaCZZWnnck .

Hi David. Welcome to my channel! Amazing Grace is an easy song to learn. This video shows how to play the melody. Once you're more familiar with playing the song, you may add harmonies or accompaniments to the melody, like in this more advanced version of Amazing Grace: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKOpiIOinLWcqpI .
