This has been so helpful for me especially as a new player with some serious arthritis in my hands and arms- the notes to stretch, keep relaxed, and learn proper positioning are so helpful! Thank you for making such a wonderfully helpful and lovely channel. 🌻

I'm new to the lyre, and this is so very helpful! I'm a jazz drummer and have a permanent issue from tensing up in my knee over the years. It's getting in the way of my playing, and affecting me outside of drumming. It's so, so important to practice good technique from the start, and maintain maximum relaxation, otherwise a price is paid down the track!

Hello! I've been following you and in love with your art, music. And as a big fan of harp, me and my sister decided to learn to play lyre. Watching your magical and beautiful videos, you becoming an inspiration, our desire to learn that mesmerizing instrument has grown even bigger. If possible, we would like to learn about lyres and which one to buy to play a long time. There are 24 stringed and 19 stringed as we looked up, what are the differences and which would be best for us? We would be so happy to hear from you! Thank you ~

Thank you so much for your generous comment💓. I am excited for you and your sister learning to play the lyre. I hope it will bring you lots of joy. I don't have a 24 string lyre so it cannot comment too much on it without having tried one. I have a 19 and 16 string lyres. I did a comparison video of my two lyres if you haven't seen it yet. As a harpist, I love playing melodies, so to me, the more string the better. 😃I tend to use my 19 string lyre a lot more especially when I'm playing melodic songs like hymns and traditional songs. I also prefer the sound and string spacing on my 19 lyre. I have a 24 string solid body lyre coming to me that I bought from one of our FB members but I have no idea when it will get here. I would be happy to do a comparison with this lyre and my 19 string lyre when it arrives. Please join our FB group if you haven't done already so we can cheer you and your sister on. The website has lots of learning tools for beginners too if you would like to see them. Thank you again 🤗

The pinky is not used then. Is the thumb plucking outward & the rest of the fingers inward? Very helpful video.

Hi - Love your tutorials... and have a question ... I do not understand why some lyres are strung high to low - and other low(bass) to high... I so need to understand this so I can move forward.... can you help?
@learningthelyreharp Жыл бұрын
This is a common question. Lyres don’t have standard string orientation. It truly comes down to preference. Most players that come from guitar background prefer the low to high because it will be easier to apply their knowledge for finger picking guitars and strumming. For those that come from harp or would like to move on to playing harp or chromatic lyres will prefer the high to low because it matches the string orientation and they can apply harp plucking techniques or glide method. Diatonic lyres sounds pretty much the same regardless of string orientation as they are mostly built with the same materials

Thank you so much for your videos. It’s such a blessing to have a kind and gifted teacher. I hope you can answer this question for me. I got a wonderful 16 string Cega harp that is tuned left to right, low to high. My son got me another lyre for a gift with 21 strings and it is tuned exactly the opposite. It’s hard to learn one way and then have to switch. Are all 21 string lyres tuned high notes to low ones?
@learningthelyreharp2 жыл бұрын
Yes lyres with 19 or more strings are tuned the opposite of 16 strings because the manufacturers market them as a step up for playing chromatic lyres and harps so they string in the same orientation as chromatic lyres and harps
@learningthelyreharp2 жыл бұрын
There is a newer brand called Byla that has more strings the same as 16 strings. I'm not sure if this is available where you are

@@learningthelyreharp Thank you so much for your answers! I am challenged in many physical ways, being nearly blind in my left eye and having had a broken left arm and shoulder so limited in strength and ability of my hand. I played violin which I miss very much and the lyre has given me great joy. I will try to find the Byla harp. I love your videos.

Hello i am totally new to this. And i have a question can you play this instrument two handed.
@learningthelyreharp10 ай бұрын
Yes it is possible as long as the access holes are open. You can check my video on how to play with two hands if you like. Most end up playing with one hand as it is easier especially on smaller lyres

How many strings do you recommend we begin with?
@learningthelyreharp Жыл бұрын
It depends on what you want to play. I personally like my 19 string and 21 string the best because the string orientation is the same as a harp. Most beginners starts with 16strings and it is usually enough to play many melodic songs.
@connieLo873653 жыл бұрын
Playing the harp technique, Is there more chance of buzzing from our finger nails?
@learningthelyreharp3 жыл бұрын
Yes there is especially if the lyre has narrow spacing. Harp plucking technique is not ideal for all lyres. For those that have narrower spacing, glide method or lyre picking might work better. Both of these techniques are going to be covered in the beginner series as well as a couple more❤
