And I especially liked the way Phillip counted (out loud) the number of snips and plucks...you always remember this kind of demonstration. What I'd like to know is the composition of the "compost" ...is it actually pure compost from a compost pile, or is this a word for soil mix (could you name the ingredients?).

Yes indeed, while the shoots are still young (although you can do hardwood cuttings in autumn if needs be). When you deadhead cut off with a 25cm shoot, take off all but the top leaves, and insert leaves uppermost in a trench in the garden soil. Once shoots start growing in autumn, lift, pot up and keep in a greenhouse or cold frame until spring.

I live in grow zone 3 in Canada where the temperature drops to between -40 to -50 degrees Celsius during winter. Would I still bury the pot of cuttings outside in the garden over Winter until the Spring? I use rose collars for my established Tea Roses to protect them during the Winter. I am not sure whether rose collars would protect the potted cuttings over our extreme cold in our cold Winter temperatures. Thanks.

I noticed when you did the count cutting you didn't leave 2 nodes just a leaf node. Aren't you supposed to leave a bottom node? Never seen this done this way. Roses are grown in central america. It's going to be tough for you to successfully grow roses over winter with that kind of cold. Do you have a green house?

No clue why i keep failing. Potting mix i tried 100 % cocopeat 100% sand 50% soil 50% cocopeat 40% soil 50% cocopeat 20% sand 30% cow compost + neem leaves. I also sprayed them with neem oil for pests. I get black/ brown/ yellow/ orange stems meaning roots aren't growing and stems have die back. If i cut dieback part it begins again even though I cleaned tools with h202. I also tried covering cuttings with plastic bag for humidity still they die. I gave rain water because tap water had high tds no success.

What is your location? Where exactly are you putting them after cutting? Are you covering them? What temperature? Are you checking on them? What i your watering regimine? There are a lot of other factors.

@@llllllllllilillii My temps are like 26 C right now. I place them in pots and cover them with a cup. When i cover the leaves form and then die turn black when cup removed after 1 month stem show same symptom when existing leaves which i didn't remove become dry like paper. I tried 5 pots all had same issue. I water only when potting mix visibly looks dry. I cut at 45 angle use fungicide or turmeric powder both didn't work for me. Rose variety is damask which is easy to grow as so claimed. I also water spray cuttings some times in hopes they survive. This plant is a bitch.
