the biggest thing for me when initially doing manual gears in TT on the last game was remembering to shift, then i started trying it in grand prix mode and after a while i finally got a handle on managing fuel, ers and gearing while keeping the car doing the right thing. In this year's game however I've only used manual gears and would never go back to auto now

short shift before 4th and normal shift after helped me massively. As a manual car driver all my life I couldn't figure out why I was getting so much slower lap times in manual configuration. Turns out I was just generally overrevving and spending too long in lower gears. Thanks a bunch!

Great video. I'm new to Formula 1 and I dropped all the assist at once. It has been challenging but I see myself progressing everyday. I learn track on time trial and I count gear and it has helped me tremendously. I also moved the MFD (and the gear view) at the bottom center of my screen to avoid loosing track of the road.

Kudos to you for dropping all assists straight out of the box. It's a slower way to learn a new course, but I'm sure it's also more rewarding as a sense of accomplishment. I hate having a big green line on my course, so I like it when games allow us to turn on the "corners only" option.

Believe me, I know how tough it is but maybe start with auto ERS (not the best idea but bare with me). Practice your gear shifting. I assume that is with your right hand and using Square and X to shift. Practice Practice and Practice eventually it will become muscle memory. Then enable the ERS manual and you don’t really need to worry about the gears as you have already mastered that. I too was in your shoes last year but a KZbin comment helped me 😀

Xbox One Controller: B - Shift Up, X - Shift Down, A - MFD, Y - DRS. As for fuel and ERS, I removed the Look Around Buttons for race sessions because I don't really need it (We already have the arrow indicator when someone is behind and that's enough). Now using the MFD Shortcut settings for the Increase Fuel Mix I use RS Up, Decrease Fuel Mix - RS Down, Increase ERS - RS Right, Decrease ERS - RS Left, and RS Button as Pit Limiter Voice Control - RB I leave the rest to default and unassigned the "Push to Talk Button" because I mainly Play Career.

Noob question -- Should I upshift as soon as the lights max out, even with plenty of revving left in the engine (and hence, speed to be gained whilst in that lower gear), or should I more often listen to the engine and let IT tell me when to shift? Of course, I mean not waiting until the rev limiter kicks in. Thanks in advance to any that answer.

@TheWeeaboo I havent played for like 3 months. Once I hit Master rank in multiplayer I just lost a motivation in investing hours into the game. But from what I can remember Canada is like 1:09.1/2. And Monaco is definitely not one of my favourite circuit lol. Monaco was around 1:09-ish.
@dannyrivers920
@dannyrivers920 4 жыл бұрын
@TheWeeaboo 1:09 in Monaco is way above like 3k-4k people. It starts at low 1:07s. My TT run is what top 1000 has as a regular race pace lol. And my Canada is definitely due to my S3. I cant even imagine how many hundreds of TT run I messed up on the last chicane hah. Yeah. I mostly did ranked races. Too bad that 25% is dead. And with my Master/Safety A it is nearly impossible to find a ranked lobby 5 laps after 6pm EST. I'll probably just get a new 2021 edition game next summer, if it actually get released. Hopefully I'll get more action there.
@dannyrivers920
@dannyrivers920 4 жыл бұрын
@TheWeeaboo Yeah. Their rank system is very flawed. I lost count already of how many times during the race I lock up in the wet and run wide and game shows "severe corner cutting, 10 sec penalty" and my safety rating just plunges down by 50% LOL. Or every time I get crashed out by someone else who misses a break point and I get collision 3 sec penalty. =_=. Not to brag, but I am usually 1-2 seconds faster a lap in open lobbies since they mostly consist of bronze-silver drivers. Sometimes I am excited to see a fellow master rated drivers and anticipating a cool challenge and guys just fail to even get to the top 25% runners lol. Or if they see they cant catch up a couple races in a row - they just quit the lobby. Just a boatload of disappointment in this multiplayer.

I never expected to have problems with manual gears since I've been playing racing games with manual shifting for several years now and it was fine. But F1 just so much different from racing in more "usual" cars, like touring for example, mostly because there's so many gears, I mean, I'm used to drop 2-4 gears before a tight turn, but 6? Sounds like dropping to neutral to me, turned out I stop mentally counting downsifts after four and tend to overdo it. Still learning this whole thing from scratch, probably have just about 10 hours of expirience with F1 and proper racing wheel, not a keyboard (never play a racing game on a keyboard if you can!), a lot of things to get used to. I started to drop assists one by one, currently learning how to drive withiout ABS and already decreased traction control to it's medium setting. Now that I remember that manual shifts are a great help in managing both braking and acceleration, I wonder, should I drop all assists at once and learn it the hard way, not to form any weird useless muscle habits from utilising unique combination of assits, or continue to progress slowly, but easy?..

Engine braking is not over reving the engine, that would destroy an engine. Engine braking is just a simple change of gear ratios. It's really for the engine to rotate the wheels in 1 gear, for example, but that makes it very hard to go the other way. If you have ever tried to push start a motorcycle or such, you will notice that the higher gear, the easier it roles.

mhh no, the general rule is to brake before turning in, when wheels are still straight. something like this: fulls speed -> brake -> downshift and turn, leaving the car rolling. You can practice in 1 to 4 corners and hairpin in China, then Monza (Prima Variante, Roggia and Ascari) and the "S curves" in Suzuka and the 3 to 9 curves in Austin. They are (at least for me) very challenging and a good training ground to build up a good (or bad) laptime.

I use an xbox controller so my index finger will be on Y where DRS is, right thumb obvi on A & X, & middle finger on the throttle. My middle finger tends to hurt after playing because of the way the trigger is designed but if u have a playstation controller it'll probably be more comfortable lol

For Gears, I have a problem with Old F1 cars, for me, when I go on a lower gear for braking, it actually changes 1 time out of 2, is it normal ??? (It works perfectly well with modern F1 cars)

I’ve never been in a car that had to shift so this shifting thing is really new. It’s easy to go up, but every time I get to a sharp corner, and it requires gears 1-3 and I’m at full speed, it’s really hard to turn all of the gears down without the engine malfunctioning. Anybody got any tips for me?

How can i be consistent?
@GabrielFrik
@GabrielFrik 4 жыл бұрын
Start by going "slow" and try to do the same trace in a few laps, the trace the game gives you can be a good start. If you stay in it, do the corners in the same gear and find your braking points you will see you will star gaining consistency. It's all about knowing the car and the track.

I use manual (sequential) in any game for decade (i'm 20) and i still dit understand why people are afraid of manual It's 2button more and most game arcade or sim do have poor automatic transmission so wrong Gear at corner exist , no acceleration , no Speed at the end of the straight and so on Most game and auto trans will Gear up toi much and stay in that Gear for too long to build Speed again When i manual if you don't feel it's pushing enough downshift and tada you are now faster and quicker and not just 0.01 sec/lap but sometime on some game you Can gain 2s/lap

It just takes time and practice. I used to use medium tc, automatic gears and abs but for the last 4 months I've been using no assistance at all. Yes at first I was absolutely terrible but with time and practice I'm now pretty fast. You have to change your driving style depending in what assists you are or are not using. I'm on the xbox controller by the way.

F1 2019 is hilarious. Imagine buying F1 2018 and 11months later paying $100 for what is essentially a couple of name changes for the campaign AI and a "9" in the name. That has to sting almost as bad as Fallout 76.
