FIA International Sporting Code Appendix L Chapter IV, Paragraph 2 b. Overtaking, according to the circumstances, may be carried out on either the right or the left. Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off-line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner. However, manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited. Any driver who appears guilty of any of the above offences will be reported to the Stewards. e. I think Ocon just wasn't aware that Kimi was there in the 1st place. @dml096 жыл бұрын
Initially I thought Raikkonen was too tight to the corner entry and not far enough alongside Ocon to have a chance at overtaking, but watching it back he had a better line and more of his car alongside than I first thought. Ocon was defending before the braking zone, so he surely knew Raikkonen was there, which makes me think Ocon might simply have misjudged how much space to leave, as he tried to maximise his racing line through the corner. That said, Raikkonen was still relatively tight to the corner, and with only around half of his car alongside, it would probably have been more sensible for him to back off if he were able. He did appear to have more of his car alongside as they came into the braking zone though, so he may well have been committed enough that he couldn't back out. Fitting two cars through these tight, wall-lined square corners is not easy though. It often doesn't come off well unless the inside car has most of their car alongside, and has a lot of space on the inside so that they've got a wide enough entry to avoid running wide on exit. This was the case with Raikkonen and Ocon coming into the previous corner, which they got through with no contact.
@jonathanhealy4026 жыл бұрын
Ocon and Raikkonen were side by side for the whole race up until that corner so it's not like Raikkonen charged down the inside. Ocon should wear the lion's share of the blame since he cut across and didn't afford Raikkonen space.

Sjonnie De Gangster true but max doesn't play fair if you make a move early. Almost out brakes himself earlier in the race, ran wide and Danny Ricc almost went into the wall. Ricciardo was giving Max ample room all race, because he knows Max doesn't care if he hits someone. This is on Max and Red Bull for not giving team orders. Max doesn't care if he causes someone to crash, even his own team mate. Worst kind of driver IMO as he hinders the team. Last year was mostly mechanical issues. This year, Max's driving has been costing Red Bull massive points.

I believe they should use a different wording for the rule to make it simpler. The one move rule comes from the idea that you can defend a line or force the attacker into a disadvantageous line. Following the movements from the car behind is bloking. So just write it down like that. You can't defend a dummy though. Because if you remain on your line you didn't fall for it, thus it isn't a dummy, and if you fall for it and defend again it's a double move. Once you fell for a dummy you have two options: accept it and try to defend from where you are or crash while trying to cover it off, like verstappen did on Sunday .
@carmillawoo65056 жыл бұрын
The whole moving under braking rule is FIA pussyfooting anyway. That rule didn't exist 15 years ago, it was made to stop max becoming a world champion instead of vettel.
@Cynyr6 жыл бұрын
i'm pretty sure it was made to avoid a max-ric type accident, or the sort of an accident that Mark Webber had a few years back with a caterham. These sorts of accidents can be very dangerous as it's very easy for the following car to be launched by the rear tires. This has been helped with the lower nose rules, but wheel to wheel can still launch the following car. Somewhere like Baku that probably means landing on/in/over a wall.
@BC-iq8ks6 жыл бұрын
LillyGaming I never said moving under braking though. That said, even though the rule didn't exist explicitly 15 years ago, it was considered illegal blocking, as the car behind is forced to give up the move or crash. Again it returns to the principle that you may defend a line not the car behind you. Ignoring all that, it's a stupid move, as it will end like it did on Sunday more often than not. As for the FIA conspiracy, has Max even been penalized by this, despite the stewards saying that he moved twice.

@vernonbear6 жыл бұрын
FpsRanga With you there. Neither driver was blameless, Max should shoulder the burden though. Neither driver was helped by the team on the pit wall though, leaving them to race has been their undoing, racers want to race, teammates even more so. All teammates will say that getting the better of the guy in the same car is important. Throughout the race Max & Daniel were trading blows and I felt that Max was being too aggressive, Daniel should’ve known that Max would be planning to defend his position aggressively, that’s where Daniel made his error. Had both parties been managed by their team more effectively then it never would’ve happened. I want to see racing but as Chain Bear rightly says, crashing brings less points than losing a position, in this case, Red Bull lost everything by not having more control of their drivers.
@Cynyr6 жыл бұрын
I agree that Daniel should have know that max would move under braking, but the fact is that Max should not be moving around as much as he does. This isn't the first race where he moves around a lot, and Daniel isn't the first to run into issues with it. I know other drivers have complained on the radio and at drivers meetings about the movement.

I can't see why Ric should be 30% fault here, Ver simply broke the rules twice. If you say he should expect Ver to defend like that, well, he shouldn't try to overtake him at all. Exciting is one thing, danger is another. A crash on the straight could have been very bad. Schumacher is also infamous for being a rather dirty driver, while being undoubtedly fast. Senna had his fair share of dirty driving, but he is immortalized at this point. Just watch Schumacher Barrichello Hungary 2010, horrible move that could have killed Ruben. Nostalgia, everyone forgets the bad and remembers the good parts only.

I have to agree with Lauda's assessment of the RIC vs VER incident and place the blame at 70% VER/30% RIC. Danny had been faster than Max all day and a lot of Max's moves were borderline at best. Yes, Danny made a move a little late but Max made 2 moves; a definite no-no.

I'm not sold on Danny's dummy being too late. The average result is exactly what you want from the defending driver, for them to move and thus commit as it's too late for them to come back across. Any other driver (except maybe K Mag) would've been sensible enough to accept that they were dummied and prepare for a counter attack in the next series of corners except the defending driver this time happened to be Max, the very reason a written rule about moving under braking exists. Danny's move could be considered a gamble but the only risk is if the defending driver is gonna play by the rules or not.

Good explaining and not biased, we need more of you in the F1 world. 2018 season is starting to be the Clash of the Fanboys. I should have a link to your channel ready and whenever i see a keyboard battle about F1, paste it and hope they learn a few things. Hope to see a new video soon and keep it up!

See I blamed Verstappen for 90% of that crash but now i see how Danny was slightly more at fault. Thanks for the clarification. Great explanation as always.

Hmmmm it seemed like after blocking the dummy, Verstappen simply followed his racing line inwards instead of trying to block and Ricciardo was not alongside him when he rejoined his racing line; he essentially did what you mentioned at 2:20 - one decisive move + gentle move to follow the braking line.

how the hell is moving even more inside gently following your line?

2:17, the rule doesn't exist anymore, you should check it. (i suppose you refer to the 27.6). Half (or more) of the rules of the 27th chapter went to the bin for some reason in the 24th of january 2017 release of the F1 rules. Things are even more foggy in that respect now.
@b00fman226 жыл бұрын
Its still a rule they just removed 27.6 because it was covered under a different section
@gg-gg-gg-gg6 жыл бұрын
27.4 At no time may a car be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person. His driving falls under this stipulation.

@Dion , Ok, i didn't spotted that, thx. @G A , Yeah, but that is open for interpretation, in my opinion, that's what i mean by foggy.

also under the fai code and regulations. Appendix L, Chapter IV part 2.b "More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted"

Someone should send verstappen this video, and specifically timestamp the part about not running the other guy off the road. Most of the season I've wanted max to win for the change but his abd red bulls conduct lately has changed my mind
