Glad to hear I’ve been saying them correctly lmao A family member of mine is constantly saying expressions incorrectly and it’s hilarious!! She adds her own words all together and nobody corrects her lol She also believes she is THE best and trash talks the entire family so when I hear her fumble with expressions everything suddenly evens out 😉

I just learnt five idioms in one fell swoop! One of the expressions that's commonly misused is "for all intents and purposes". I've seen "for all intensive purposes" [sic] because, y'know, purposes can be intensive.

Many days ago, it was my exam.I spent the whole day watching t.v and playing games.My first paper went really bad.I was shattered.My mother said "nip it in the bud" I replied "what!" she asserted "fix your time management before it gets worse, leave the computer and all that jazz" but I was on tenterhooks for the upcoming movie.Time flew without wings.Next day was my result.I knew I have done the worst.At school when my name was announced I was engulfed in sweat.My teacher said "you've not passed even a single paper.My mother cried"all at one fell swoop".My father said" you must had done better but unfortunately, it was a moot point.

@khaloth32427 жыл бұрын
"Go off" means that some sort of electrical device has made a sound (text message notification, for example). Therefore, if it's said "The alarm went off" it means that it started beeping. I'm no expert, nor a native speaker, so if I'm wrong, I apologise.

Americans would say “I’m on the edge of my seat” instead of “to be on tenterhooks.” Never heard that one before - must be exclusively British!
