In this sentence, there is a “because” and there is a “so”. "Because" and "so" are conjunctions. They link two sentences together. But the point is you should only use one of them in a sentence, not two of them together. No No No No. They cannot be used together in the same sentence. So, you should use either of the two: I liked him, so I tried to help him. or I tried to help him because I liked him. Because I liked him, I tried to help him.

First off all, thank you for the brilliant lesson. As you informed us, we can not use two conjunction to connect two sentences. Rather than that we can say, I liked him so I helped him. Also, we can say because I liked him, I helped him.

This is more of a mix up, but one of my biggest pet peeves is when people confuse “Much” with “many”. Like those stupid KZbin comments that say “You’ll never know how I got this much likes.” It’s “this MANY likes”. Much is an unspecified, broad amount of something that cannot be quantified in counting numbers. For example, having so much energy. If it wouldn’t make sense to say you have 5 energy, then it wouldn’t make sense to say you have many energy. Many is a narrower, specific amount of something that can be quantified via counting numbers. For example, having so many apples. You can count these apples individually. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on. But you cannot count your energy individually. You don’t have 1 energy or two energy or anything like that. In fact, energy comes from a few different intake factors. That means that it can’t be measured using only one factor anyway, unlike things that can be counted with counting numbers. And the bodily factors you would need to use all have units attached to the end of them. Like calories for example. In fact, energy itself is measured in a unit. But the word “many” only works when describing something that can be measured in counting numbers. And things that can be measured in counting numbers cannot be counted in units. Pounds are a unit, if I said I had 8 pounds could you tell me how many apples I had and it be the guaranteed correct answer? No you couldn’t, because not all apples weigh the same. Are they green or red? Are they ripe or not? Were they grown from a strong tree with good soil? Did they fall prematurely? All of that can affect the weight of the apples. Now you could safely rule out the number being…say…50 apples or a hundred apples because those would both weigh far more than 8 pounds. But you could not give me an exact number with 100% certainty. But if I said I had 8 pounds of sand. Look at it or just carry it around. Either way, you can surmise that it is around 8 pounds. Or just weigh it out and see. You cannot weigh 50 apples without knowing there are 50 of them and then be able to find out how many there are simply by the weight. Much also generally refers to one mass, whereas many refers to individual masses. So, in the case I mentioned, it isn’t “ so much likes” because each like is independent of the others. They don’t all form one super like, they are individual. Furthermore, much is a very colloquial term. Colloquial means it is very grammatically informal. Many is also colloquial, but due to it being more specific it is less informal and more appropriate in this given situation. Grammar as a whole is a big pet peeve for me. But “Much vs Many” always annoys me. It might just be the most common grammar mistake I see.

Hello, hope you doing well! Because and so are same meaning, we have to use one of them in the sentence. The correct sentence either I liked him, so I tried to help him Or I tried to help him, because I liked him .
@tasty_cherry2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if I’m wrong, but in that sentence there are two conjunctions (because and so), which cannot fit together. So, the correct ones can be the following: “I tried to help him because I liked him” and “I liked him, so I tried to help him”. Now, I would like to know from a native English speaker if the sentences after this one haven’t got mistakes: “I had liked him, so I tried to help him” and “I tried to help him because I had liked him”. I look forward the replies. Thanks so much.
