Really sad that I had to enroll in ERP type courses at a community college to gain beg-advanced skills in Quickbooks and Excel. Especially since uni costs are so high, we'd cover an extensive amount of material to prepare students for jobs.

A manager asked me the following question in an jobinterview. 1. If I told you to do something in a specific way, would you be the person that would tell me that it's better to do it in a different way. 2. If you saw I've made a mistake, and we are in a team meeting, would you point it out in front of everyone or rather tell me in person. What would be the best answer to give sir?
@TheFinancialController3 жыл бұрын
Good questions, 1. Yes, I would be. If I truly believe it can be done better, I will make sure to let you know. 2. Depends. If I found it absolutely necessary for the purpose of the meeting, I will raise the point. But if if can be corrected in private afterwards, that would be my approach.

This is good information. I mentioned in a previous thread but my goal right now is to continue studying accounting at Ensign College in Salt Lake until I receive my Bachelors. Their plan is very much on track to help pass the CMA exams which is something I want to accomplish. After that, I plan to apply at Southern Utah University and achieve an MAcc. After all that, I'd prefer to start in private accounting in the A/R department and work on my 5 year / 10 year plan... which may include getting a CPA, and deciding what route I'd use to get to a Controller position and possibly a CFO.

What do you think I could do in my situation to get a job? I got my CPA license 15 years ago whike working in a small accounting firm for two years. For the last 15 years I have been a stay at home mom, and I now have 5 kids, including some very young ones. I recently renewed my expired CPA license and I would like to work again, but it would have to be part-time from home. Also, I live overseas. I have worked hard to renue my license, but without any experience these last number if years, I am not sure what to do. I don't mind starting at entry level, and I do learn fast. Is there any hope for me? What would you suggest?

I would think your CPA will help you land a remote job, you just need to keep applying. Apply to “remote only” jobs. Create a Slideshare presentation on a topic in accounting and add it to your resume and LinkedIn profile. The slide idea is how I got the attention of a CFO once early on in my career. Put your mind to it and you will do it. I know it’s hard with 5 kiddos but you are doing it for them.
