In the Middle East, 5 years are not enough to be an accounting or audit manager, at least 8 to 10 years with ACCA and you will be making 110k annual salary only (average)😅

Hello! I recently graduated with a bachelors in accounting & im looking for staff accountant roles. It’s proving to be difficult. It’s not easy when the accounting community is afraid of outsourcing and say that a CPA is necessary to keep your job. Do you believe I need a CPA when my overall goal aligns more with CMA or managerial accounting in general? I’m stressing over having to take the CPA exam when it really doesn’t call my interests. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi bill, i go to college part time trying to obtain my degree over a stretched period of time, around 5 years or so, while maintaining a junior accounting job in a private company. I was wondering if after getting my bachelor’s degree it would be better to work in public accounting or will the 5-6 year experience in private accounting suffice to get me to my destination fast enough. Note that my goal is to become controller of a more or less large company.
@TheFinancialControllerАй бұрын
Public accounting is still the faster path to Controller, but with that experience, it may not be a requirement. Important thing is get your CPA, and move (even companies if you have to) to progressively higher responsibilities roles. I made a jump every 2-3 years to achieve this progressive approach for example.

Hi Bill, thank you for making this video. I have been following your channel for over 2 years now. I have a career question for you. I am CPA Articling Student at a mid size public accounting firm in Canada and I joined in January 2024. My firm mostly does Municipal Audits and NPO Reviews and tried working on these but didn't enjoy it so I switched to tax pool and have been working on preparing compilation, FS, Corp Tax and personal tax returns. As per my firm's new policy one can only work in tax or audit and they have assigned me to the tax group. I want to become a corporate controller in future. What steps would you suggest I should take to reach that level. Should I continue to work on tax engagement at my firm till I get my CPA licence while also learning things like pay to procure and other functions and once I get my CPA then switch to a senior accountant role in private industry and then move up from there or take some other route. If you could please guide me through this question it would mean a lot to me. During to the immigration purposes I would have to work with my employer same employer and in the tax group for about 1 to 2 more years. Thank you

I dont have relevant office experience and ever yentry level job in AR/AP, Payroll or bookkeeping requires minimum of 1 year of experience in an office environment or with job related roles. Indeed might be a bad job site for entry level work in my area because nothing pops up and I live in the north east which there should be thousands of these jobs popping up. Its disheartening really. I have only taken 3 accounting classes so far for my major but taking the fourth next term. I work in the trades and have no office experience outside of property management (this job was half office half hands on) that I can put down. My current job I make enough to survive and pay for my education as I go without taking loans out and going to school fulltime. It feels almost impossible to transition into a new career at the moment.

@TheFinancialController I've hired entry-level finance and accounting folks at big 4 as well as at Fortune 500, very little who gave attention to grades. There is a reason why the cpa/cma exams is a pass/fail. Extra curricular is what companies look at mostly. Grade is not an indication of a good hire whatsoever. my 2 cents.

@zkhan9936Ай бұрын
@@TheFinancialController That RH.... they will say anything to get someone to work them. The reality is every different than that, I worked at big4 in Northeast so its HCOL. Senior 2-3 are 100-105 range. Managers DO NOT make anywhere near 150k... you are just misleading people with these numbers/ In addition, you stated auditor manager makes 180k.... that is just crazy to throw out these numbers without doing any research. 180k is moire like SM that has has 10 Years under his belt.... managers top around 125-145k range. I would highly suggest you do more research and have disclaimers in your videos to not mislead people
@zkhan993613 күн бұрын
@@TheFinancialController top of the range means nothing and is very misleading. Most dont even do mid point in the range. Deloitte senior 2 are making 100k in NYC/NJ so big4 audit managers are making around 120-130k.... so industry accounting manager are probably doing around 120k.

why would you want someone with a high GPA, High amount of extra curricular activity when yourself aren't even into extra curricular activities. What about the kids that had to work while going to school so they were not able to have enough time in a day to be apart of extracurricular activities, they instead had to make sure they are making money enough to feed their selves and their family. Complete joke of what you look for and the types of employers you want. I bet you love those 4.0 Accounting students who do not know how to clean their own bums, choose what outfit to wear everyday, know how to do their own laundry, and the best part they are horrible when it comes to the real world but hey 4.0 student should mean they can do absolutely phenomenal for you job wise right?

I actually value those who have to work during school, even if the work is busing tables or local business. It shows grit and ability to be responsible. Even extra points if you did it feed your family. I'll be sure to make this clean in my next videos.

@ I’m happy to hear your perspective-it’s refreshing to see a C-suite executive with an open mind. Could you offer any guidance on setting up a strong resume? Alternatively, how can I effectively leverage my experience with odd jobs to stand out in interviews or as a candidate? It feels like the hiring process in many firms and industries heavily favors students who showcase projects (real or fabricated) and internships. Unfortunately, I’ve seen firsthand how some applicants exaggerate or falsify their experience-whether by using their parents’ company names or connections to family friends to claim internships or achievements that didn’t happen. This makes me question whether being an honest, hardworking applicant is enough to compete in such a system. How do candidates like me, who value integrity, navigate this landscape and demonstrate our worth when honesty seems overshadowed by these shortcuts? I don’t expect a reply or a broader discussion on this, as I understand the realities of the system and how widespread these practices can be. If you’ve managed to succeed without compromising your values, thank you for showing that it’s still possible. You’ve restored a bit of my faith in the process, however rare that might be.
@sharonthehuman5954Ай бұрын
I would also like to add that accounting students can also sometimes find part time work or internships that pay prior to graduating as I did both to get experience while earning money prior to graduating.
@pabloescoburr2704Ай бұрын
@ yeah but those internship to full time don’t start until August plus the only way it’s worth doing internships for is when you get have 3+ internships and weigh out all the firms. Chances of that happening is slim unless you have connections or are that no life trust fund 4.0 student who doesn’t know anything about life but accounting
