Instead of just explaining why he likes each plugin (which would have been good enough), John _explains how_ each plugin is affecting the sound. This approach gives the viewer transferable skills which can be applied using whichever plugins we have/choose. He can clearly mix well and has infectious spirit. Get this dude back on the channel asap! Thanks Warren, another great video.

The SoundToys bundle by itself can do everything shown here, plus Echoboy is a FAR better delay. Also, Melodyne is must have so you don't have to sacrifice a great take just because a note or two is pitchy.

i love echoby too! The reason I wanted to show off CLA is I love the simplicity of one knob plugins personally :) And Melodyne/a manual pitch correction plugin honestly felt like too obvious of an answer, but Melodyne Studio 5 is flipping INSANE and I love the multitrack view its beautiful....

I really appreciate the time and experience given to producing this, but part of me thinks it’s really off-base to discuss plug-in/equipment recommendations with terms like “must use” or “best” or even “essential.” Why not “my favorite” or “my go-to” plug-ins? I’d argue that only certain categories of processors are “essential,” such as EQ and compression. Everything else-including specific types and brands of EQ and compression, etc.-is going to be a matter of taste, musical application, budget, experience, objectives, and all the rest.

I like this channel, but I fail to understand when plugins are demonstrated the songs that are chosen are modern over compressed terrible music and not something more accessible and normal sounding. The example hear is the usual TOO PERFECT sounding, barely any dynamics, robotic performance, soulless with predicable drum boring loop, etc.

I guess that's almost the same to what people said when Psychedelic-Rock came up in the late 1960s and that's a style (for example) which is deservingly rated as "classic" now, isn't it?!
@blackswanstudios6632
@blackswanstudios6632 2 жыл бұрын
@@HACKED_KZbin_ACCOUNT That's a weak argument as I suspect deep down you already know. Just because a portion of an entirely different group of people didn't like an entirely different genre in the past, doesn't mean you get that to dismiss critisism of something completely different. If your argument was valid, critism of literally anything could be shot down that way. Let's say that music becomes nothing but someone recording farts, and that's it. When people then critisize it, you could shoot down that critisism by going "Well, some people had a problem with something else in the past, so....".
@HACKED_YOUTUBE_ACCOUNT

@@blackswanstudios6632 I get your point here. Probably my comment shouldn't be taken too literally. I was only saying this kind of production exists, is appreciated by many these days and as time will move on... it will likely be easier to understand why. Something like that... Whatsoever: Thanks for your reply in any way! Cheers!😊
@blackswanstudios6632
@blackswanstudios6632 2 жыл бұрын
@@HACKED_KZbin_ACCOUNT Yeah, I would say though that "this kind of production exists, is appreciated by many these days..." is exacty why it's being called out. If it didn't exist at all, or if it wasn't 'appreciated by many' no one would be talking about it being bad....you know....there'd be no reason to. I don't think it will be ''easier to understand why some people like it as time moves on'', as it's already very easy to understand. Just like it's easy to understand why white toast is one of the most popular foods, the same reason wrestling is hugely popular, the same reason the Spice Girls were the biggest group in the entire world at one point, the same reason movies with very little story and tons of effects make so much money etc. None of these are hard to fathom psychological phenomena. We understand fairly well how you can easily appeal to an increasingly low attention span and appeal to the gratification center of the brain through mindless repetition etc. And I don't blame someone who's probably passionate about music, as I'm sure you are too, calling out the lowest common denominator stuff out there.
