Anything by Stevie Ray Vaughn. You're absolutely right. I used to drive the backways from Hill Country to College Station and Houston, listening to those songs. Good times.

Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood" live video from El Mocambo. Seen it 1000 times & I love watching 1st time reactions to it. He brought Blues back to the forefront in the 80's...

Stevie Ray Vaughn, In Step favorite album. Found him when we still lived in Alaska 30 years ago. He sounds even better now that we finally live in central Texas. 🎶 🎸

All of the music y’all have recommended is really great music but if you want a taste of real Texas blues it requires a completely different rabbit hole. Here’s a partial list of some of the greatest bluesmen Texas has ever seen, there’re all long dead but the music isn’t. T Bone Walker, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Albert Collins, Lightning Hopkins,Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown,Johnny Copeland, and Blind Blake. I would also add SRV to this list.

If you're looking for good Texas music, I would recommend The Old 97's from the DFW area. They were one of the original Alt-Country bands, but you can hear classic country, rock, and blues influences in a lot of their songs, especially the earlier ones. "Big Brown Eyes", "W-I-F-E", "Timebomb", "St. Ignatius", and "If My Heart Was a Car" would be my first suggestions, but their first 2 albums are gold from start to finish.

This is the classic Texas song. My husband's best friend died and his family had this engraved on a memorial bench for him. The road goes on forever and the party never ends. We miss you Phil. You were the best and Jeff's still lost without you bud. Keep the party going till we get there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3u1iKeBmrV-q7s

Although Outlaw Country, check out my personal favorite, Cody Jinks. He has a number of great songs. Another one is Cody Johnson. He finally signed a record deal in 2018 with Warner Music Nashville so he gets mainstream radio play. If you have HD radio, check out the 2nd or 3rd channels in your area to find Texas Country and/or Red Dirt Music. (I have to do this in Houston in my truck.) I hate that "polished pop country crap" that comes out of Nashville. Those lyrics are in a must listen to song by the Josh Abbott Band - My Texas (featuring Pat Green).

As a Texan who’s a fan of country and blues I gotta tell you only two of those songs are sung by Texans and none of them are blues. Here are some TX blues artists… Lightnin Hopkins Freddie King Albert Collins Garry Clark Jr. Lead Belly Stevie Ray Vahn Leon Bridges If you like the sound of those country artists you talked about in the video you may also like… Gabe Lee Charlie Crockett Zach Bryan John Wesley Godwin Tyler Childers Sturgill Simpson Turnpike Troubadours Vincent Neil Emerson Welcome to Texas, I love that you’re enjoying our culture!

When answering the question “which musician would you go back in time to hear perform live?” the number one slot goes to Stevie Ray Vaughan. If you want the most pared down, sparse version of Texas blues, you want Lightnin’ Hopkins.
