"Room tone" is probably not the best name for it, it'll get confused with the Soundie recording Room Tone or Atmos... I never got taught a name for it, just called in "Ambient Lift", used to get the environment up in to the dynamic range of the sensor on my camera, before going in and adding highlight or shadows for mood.
