My family from Argentina will typically mix sweet vermouth with 7-Up to have with cheese, salami, olives, and peanuts
@danielgalil50202 жыл бұрын
I am so glad you included vermouth and soda at the end of it. I'm more of a vermouth on the rocks with an olive garnish myself(also as the drink it in spain), but it's the same point. I think that one of the biggest tragedies in mixology is that people think vermoth is just for mixing. It is a beautiful drink that tastes like an herbaceous cola. Much love.

When my sister and her husband visited me here in the US and ventured out on their own, she ordered a martini and was surprised "how strong it was", when she expected straight vermouth, rosso martini being a popular brand in Germany. Laughed about that one for a while.

This is my favorite way to use vermouth. Soooo good
@CraigFalls12 жыл бұрын
In San Sebastian I noticed a lot of times they would add a little dash of gin. The vermouths themselves (e.g. Yzaguirre) were a little lighter and smoother than, say, martini rosso. Usually garnished with a slice of orange or lemon or an olive or all three. At a fancier place they would mist it with something. I asked what the mist was and one place said something like 3 parts vermouth, 2 parts gin, 1 part orange bitters. Another place was adding a dash from a premixed bottle of campari/gin/angostura. Regardless of the exact details, they just call this concoction "vermut" or "vermut preparado", not really thinking of it as a cocktail. It's similar to ordering a Coke and getting it on ice with a lemon wedge -- it's still just a Coke. Here is another typical description, unfortunately in Spanish: www.conpan.es/content/view/391/36-vermut-preparado
@aitoriri16 ай бұрын
@@CraigFalls1 I work in a bar in Bilbao and is very tipical for each bar to have their own way of preparing the vermut. As you said it can have gin, campari and angostura but some places will add a bit of orange juice and play with the garnishes to, like a orange slice or an olive or both.

I really appreciate these videos of cocktails made with [some ingredient]. It makes it so much easier for us amateurs to grab that one ingredient and try it in a variety of ways with stuff we probably already have. I had never thought about simply mixing sweet vermouth and soda water. I saw this video, thought to myself "Oh, that sounds interesting!", immediately ran down stairs and made one, then ran back up just to leave this comment. **sip** This is seriously good! It's a has a lot of what I like about my favorite afternoon sipper (Fernet con Coca), but is MUCH more mild. It's certainly an instant top 5 for me.

Just tried the Swet Vermouth and Soda, and OMG it was wonderful. Got it along with some Campari to try making a Negroni for myswlf and an Americano for the wife who does not drink Gin. Neither of us have the taste for the Campari, although after I adjusted the ratios decreasing the Campari I was able to make a Negroni that fit my pallet. However the wife was convinced that both the Sweet Vermouth and Campari were terrible. I tried to tell her it was probably the Campari that she didn't like but she would not believe me until I handed her the Sweet Vermouth and Soda and she took a sip and loved it. She din;t believe me whenI told her what it was. Thanks for the Tips, Tricks, and Recipes.

Guilty of being in the Manhattan rut. Played with it a lot (adding a bit of dry vermouth or a couple kinds of bitters). Then I learned about the Black Manhattan (maybe on this channel) and I never looked back. Then I got all the makings for a proper Singapore Sling and ended up with a bottle of Cherry Heering. Stumbled on something called a "Cherry Old Fashioned" which is essentially a Manhattan with the Heering replacing the Vermouth. So... I definitely need some other uses for the Sweet Vermouth. Some of these sound amazing and I will try them. And as another commenter pointed out,, on the rocks with a twist is a great aperitif. Ubiquitous in South America--often sipped sitting outdoors under a Cinzano umbrella. Thanks for these among many great recipes on this channel.

It's funny that you mention having the V&S in Madrid. When you were making it I thought it seemed like a riff on a tinto de verano - a red wine (the house wine, something young), with soda and lemon (or kill 2 birds and use lemon fanta). Aside from beer, it's the most popular drink por las terrazas de Madrid!

I was waiting for that vermouth and soda at the end - that is my preferred way to use up my vermouth because: a) I can't buy small bottles - they just don't exist where I am; b) If you want something low ABV, something more approachable for a person who is not into classic or booze-forward cocktails; c) it is a great way to test if your vermouth is already going rancid or not - I find that in a negroni, for instance, you'll sense something is off but might not immediatly attribute that to your vrmouth. My preferred vermouth and soda is in a highball (or even a pint glass if I'm feeling really frisky) full of ice, 1:1 liquid ratio of vermouth and soda, and a twist+slice of orange or lemon. Some people prefer a vermouth and tonic, and that is a great option if you want a bit more sweetness and biterness. Also, Anders, thank you for leading me onto the path of Cocchi Vermouth di Torino - it's the most luscious of sweet vermouths I've had and I've loved sipping it by itself as well as in cocktails. And thank you for the continued content and, importantly, drinks I haven't seen on my other beloved cocktail KZbin channels! Cheers!
