Almost two years ago I had a little dog that my husband and I spoiled rotten. He went on trips, was fed well, would share evenings looking at the stars with us. Then a few days after his 8th birthday he had an allergic reaction to a flea medication and died. After almost drinking myself too death I found stoicism. Quit drinking and understood that the world can literally throw a piano at you out of nowhere. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I found it when I did, because this is some shit storm that we going through right now. Ty for the video.

Modern Wisdom It was the first time I shared it, so I appreciate your response. I am also a huge fan of Alain De Botton, and I would love to hear that story about Fortuna, would you be ever so nice to direct me to that bit of wisdom.

Thank you so much for this. I enjoyed listening to it a lot. This got me reflecting on other books I've read before. I just recently finished the book 5 second rule by Mel Robbins and I feel like the Stoic approach vs the 5 second rule approach is like System 1 and System 2 thinking mentioned in the book Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. (edit: I wrote this comment while listening around the midpoint and it's funny that the book was mentioned in the 2nd half ^^) I hope I can actually practice the things that Professor Massimo discussed since I've been struggling to curb splurging and impulse doing of a lot of things recently in an attempt to drown out sadness. Anyway, I might've said too much but I just wanted to say thanks again for making these super helpful videos. Cheers!

I'm pulled between stoicism and existentialism. Jordan Peterson would be a great guest to discuss it. Good conversation mate

I’ve never looked into existentialism, where should I start Graeme? Any videos about?

@@ChrisWillx this is a video giving some back ground to existentialism and the more famous existentialist thinkers. JBP does a comparison of existentialism against other schools of thought such as phenomenology and how they shape human thought and personality. All his lectures are worth checking out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqK9ZHipp7CDqcU

@@ChrisWillx here is another lecture on Alexander Solzhenitsyn and the book 'the Gulag Archipelago'. That book changed how I view the world. It makes you appreciate what you have.
