one helpful tip re: adapters and such is that some of the hotels have outlets located in not the most convenient areas next to the bed. Therefore, those large universal travel adapters may not always be the best thing to rely on because they may not be as easy to plug in. You might be better off keeping some of the smaller Type F adapters with you. Second not-so-boring tip is that you can easily utilize Apple or Google Pay in about more than 95% of the places in Barcelona (as someone who's visited in April can attest!).

Do people not have access to the weather network app?? You can convert from degrees to Celsius with a flip of switch 😅
@PatrickGuideBarcelona3 ай бұрын
Weather apps change it, yes. I was thinking more on the lines if someone told you the weather. You can more or less know from the guidelines or do it in your head faster!

I was wondering about cash and how much to bring. What should a tourist tip? Coming from Toronto, Canada, we're all pretty much credit card now for everything... Especially after COVID. (and everyone wants a tip for everything now).
@PatrickGuideBarcelona2 ай бұрын
Depending on how long you’re here. But as I said in the video you really don’t need a lot, everyone accepts card. Couple hundred just in case. Tip maybe 10% if you want, or round up the bill. It’s not like the States or Canada

It is important to note that adaptors that simply adapt the plug type are only appropriate for devices that work with the target voltage and frequency. Most modern electronics will work with 110-240V 50/60 Hz. But, it is important to check the ratings on the “wall wart” to be sure. Most items with a heating element and/or a motor (unless they are specifically dual-voltage “Travel” appliances) will only work at one voltage. In this case, you must use a voltage CONVERTER (a different, more expensive device) which will step the 220 down to 110 volts while generally the 50 Hz will be unchanged. Be aware that not all converters can handle the >1500 Watts drawn by many hair dryers and might overheat and burn out. So, check the ratings printed on all of the devices and converters and make sure you are not overloading anything. Also, you may find that your hairdryer will be “wimpy” compared to home use, as the 50 Hz will turn the AC fan more slowly.
@CineSoar3 ай бұрын
TLDR: If it says 110-115V 60 Hz AC, you will need a voltage converter, not just an adapter, with a Current/Watts rating that is comfortably higher than the maximum current/Wattage listed on the appliance. If you get this wrong, you may get a very brief fireworks show that will let the ‘magic smoke’ out of your device. And all electronics stop working, when you let the magic smoke out.

Patrick, do you have any tips for using the Rodalies de Catalunya trains? I've easily been able to book all other train rides for my upcoming trip all over the country, but not these regional trains. I need to go from Barcelona to Santa Susanna around noon on Sept 20 and come back around noon on the 23rd. Their app and website are terrible, though they work a bit better in Castellano than in English. Do tickets need to be purchased onsite? I cannot figure out how to book ahead. I know that I need to take the R1 or RG1 lines...in some places it looks like trains run every half hour, in other places it looks like there might only be one late-night train per day. Help!

Just seeing this! Did you figure it out?
@julieanncheshire9960Ай бұрын
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Yep! No tickets in advance, no schedule in advance, buy them at the kiosks which may or may not work, find the gate by looking at the departures board, at gate, hope that you know which lines go where you need to go, ask around until you are sure you are getting on the train going the right direction…use compass on your phone to verify…easy. 😆
@julieanncheshire9960Ай бұрын
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona In other words, I figured it out…but it would be awfully hard to do for those who do not speak Spanish! Taking high-speed trains the rest of my trip has been a breeze. Currently near Madrid.

A fun thing as a swede and the temperature. We usually go to Barcelona in February. It is not uncommon that the tempereture is between 20-25 degrees. The locals use winterjackets and I am wearing a t-shirt. ;-)

@@billybenson3834 I don’t think there was ever any harassing, simply one protest and lots of ongoing concerns. I just spent a couple of weeks in Barcelona and everything was fine. I have seen a few “tourists go home” stickers and graffitis while I have been in Spain, but that is it.
