I had Toyota, that went over 500,000 miles. Every year, I was looking for an excuse to get rid of it. It wouldn't give. I finally told my girlfriend that I drove it off the cliff and got a new car.

I really like the choice of vehicles and somewhat agree, my only concern is these new engines with turbos. Imho, that’s the first mistake for the brands to begin suffering for few coming years. Reliability for me ranks top spot.

I just ordered an X5 with the six, so glad to see it on your list. Lotta folks here questioning how you can “know” the reliability of new vehicles, but you can tell a lot from the history of the drivetrains, the basic mechanical architecture of which evolve pretty slowly, and are often sources of big-buck repairs. Also, major electrical components, suspension and wheel mounts, fuel, cooling and brake systems, and other wear items tend to be the same throughout the life cycle of a “generation”, which is generally 5-to-8 years or more. So, it’s not that much of a guess to look at a continuing model that is given a minor refresh, and project its reliability. But, there is some variation, of course. I have a 2013 Mercedes GL with 125,000 on it that has been nearly flawless. The dealer says its particular engine, which is the v8 that was standard before they made the gas 6 standard a year or two later, is an excellent engine, and I would have to agree. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Turbo engines will be a major concern. and Toyota/Lexus now will move towards short term goals now because earlier they made cars which lasted for decades which eventually made their profits less in the shape of spare parts. So its a deep planning by these companies to introduce short lived technology. Remember speed/Power is not everything, Longevity is !

@@ECPP true. Reliability is a very important factor for us especially as we like to keep our cars a while and go on long drives. We ended up favoring the regular Advance MDX over the Type-S one for this very reason. We don’t want to put up with low-profile tires that go flat easily, the standard MDX is more reliable, and we don’t care for/dislike in-car seat massaging. Plus, the standard MDX is still awesome. They are a bit problematic with cooler leaks, engine leaks, plastics are a bit fragile. Overall these can get a lot of miles on them, but there is a risk of transmission and engine issues with both the 5.3 and 6.3 L engines specifically in the heads such as lifters. Again, take the good with the bad and many can go a lot of miles, but usually not flawlessly

In reality, no car manufacturer has, or ever would desire, to make a virtually fault free vehicle with very low maintenance. This business approach would put them out of business. BMW can sacrifice some reliability and longevity for their cache and history of performance and technology and customers who are always trading up to the next product level of BMW. Lexus'(Toyota in general) reputed reliability is evidenced in and upon high volume sales (although of late, inventory is lax) and attracts the buyer who wants to keep their cars for longer and defy depreciation. I would dare to say take copious care of your vehicle and stave off the potential problems a buyer can control.

With Acura, be prepared to make friends with your local PDR (paintless dent removal) expert, because you’ll end on his Christmas card list in no time at all. The gauge of steel that Acura and Honda use is so light, dents can appear almost by just looking at them. If you live in a city like Vancouver Canada, door dings are simply a fact of life.

I just went to get a new NX 2024, or RX 350 First let me say Lexus has dropped the ball on the NX 350, It has run flats great but no spare tire kit unlike BMW X3 or Acura RDX. They should have a kit, for the car. They can not help you at 3 am in the morning when you are stuck on a long road trip on the side of the road. I asked if road sire assistance would bring you a rim and tire they said no. Not good! So I went to look at the 2024 RX 350 great spare tire now as far as the engine am sure it's a great one but it a perfect fit for the NX 350 it's the right size not in the RX 350 it struggles to get out of it's own way on merging onto a highway. Also premium fuel in both cars Wow have we gone backwards? I drove a 2022 RX 350 and both a 2024 RX 350 and the NX 350 in real city streets. The NX got around 14 to 16 MPG, The RX 9 to 12 and low and behold the 2022 RX got 16 to 17. I drive 80 to 90 percent City driving so the 2022 RX 350 was the clear winner. I took a highway trip yesterday driving at 50 to 55 with cruse control on and the 2022 RX 350 got 29.4. So now I pose a question how do you save gas with a smaller engine when you are burring more of it? FYI Acura has a major recall for all the V6 MDX and TLX. Engine lock ups.

Based on your overall experience, do you recommend a 2022 RX over the 2023- RX or NX redesign? I’m debating between the 3 but I am leaning more towards the 22 RX for the v6, regular gas, and most importantly its looks. I would be mostly be doing city driving but will be doing road trips as well.

@@ghost.hardware4931 For me yes the 2022 v6 is a very reliable engine. Also Regular gas in the 2022 unlike the 2024 which needs premium. I test drove the 2024 RX the engine is under powdered for the 2023 / 24 RX. They just took the NX 4 cylinder and stuck it in the RX which when needed to merge on to a high way it strains really bad. Also to note I drove the 2022 RX350 in the NYC streets I got 16 to 17 with the 2024 I got 9 to 12. . I can say I love my 2022 RX2022 CPO but that is me. I do recommend you test drive both in the city and on the highway because you might feel different than I do

So, you would prefer a non-turbo version of BMW which is notoriously unreliable, but not anything with a turbo engine from Lexus which has a long history of great reliability? your hatred for the turbo is just insane in 2023

Lexus ditched the track pad in the RX. Acura needs to get rid of their trackpad and redo the center stack.

One “stylin” thing ,,make that 2 that suck are phony vents on the fenders and JC Whitney Mustang type hood scoops. They scream fake plastic. Why don’t they not spend the bucks on yuppy crap and make a decent drive train, safe and dependable ,(junk the CVT,s ) cut trying to out gadget/gizmo each other? I really believe good car company,s can do better.

Not to split hairs but I think the only real SUVs on your list are the GX/LX The rest of them are crossovers. And while you may say it's just semantics, it's really not though. Crossovers don't really stack up to a real body on frame SUV. And that's fine. I have one. It's a car that's rides a little higher. But there are things that you can't /shouldn't even think about doing in a crossover.

Belonging to Lexus RX and NX groups on Facebook. I see so many problems with these two new models. I probably wouldn’t get one until they iron out all the kinks. Acura now way.. was the worst car I owned. Nothing but problems. Definitely would stick with the older Lexus/ Toyota products that haven’t been changed.

Been driving them all. X5 hands down. Acura is good but that touchpad, sorry, ya gotta be kidding me. Lexus RX is dog slow with hard seats. Lexus GX is a gas hog and drives like a truck (rebadged 4Runner). But BMW knocked it out of the park. It outruns, out rides, and out shines in every way.
