Still need to know how to tell how high a jack will go...how do you gauge that?
@AshokYadav-bh8du4 жыл бұрын
I bought a 3 ton jack came with with two jack stands . It has a height of 18 inches which I need to lift up my tires when I am swapping from summer to winter tires. It’s made out of steel and is heavy. I like it and happy with it. I bought it at Canadian Tire on sale for $ 140.00 . Look out for sale in flyer . I had a two ton jack before and I couldn’t get the height I needed to change my tires. I bought torque wrench and set of deep socket set which you definitely need if you are changing tires. Good luck.

Will a 3 ton floor jack with minimum lifting capacity of 175mm fit in a vehicle of low ground clearance of just 170mm?

SnailTrail 4x4 Will do for sure I really like my new Jack. I believe it’s a 3 ton hi lifting jack and it only takes a few pumps to get it off the ground. Was like $150. It’s pretty heavy wish I could’ve afforded aluminum but I’m a big guy so what the heck Muscle up ha ha

Banner 3.5 Ton fast lift jack. About 21” lift height. I can put on frame rail and almost get a tire off the ground even with all the suspension travel we have.

Does the amount of 'lift' a jack vary? or do they all lift the same hight? I was told by my brother that the "tonnage" number does not affect the height of the lift. Is he right?
@SnailTrail4x46 жыл бұрын
Both right. The Tonnage doesn't effect the height, but Jack lift heights do very.

@@SnailTrail4x4 thanks, I'm trying to take down the fuel tank on 94 Honda passport and so I need a good amount of clearance to lift. What kind of jack do you suggest?

Lots of people have been talking about the Harbor freight Daytona floor jack. But remember you can always lift the vehicle higher 😉

Among hydraulic floor jacks, what makes for good quality? I got one from a big-box store and you could never lower it smoothly. You had to crank and crank the handle to release it and then it just about dropped the car on you. I have a gentle touch on such things and can lower almost any Jack smoothly but not that thing. Then it started acting up so that the gears at the handle and the valve didn't mesh except in certain positions. So you get it up part way and then you have a terrible time trying to lower the thing at all. So what do I need to look for to get quality? Low profile is nice light weight is nice but I really need quality.

I picked up an old one over the weekend at an auction. It's heavy and doesn't go as low, but it seems to work smoothly. $70 ... not sure the brand. It's yellow.

I ended up getting a jack, its been on the channel a few times. I haven't actually given it an introduction because I am not sure how much I like it.

Depends on what you define as “quality”. As for lowering a Jack slower/smoothly, the jacks that use a universal joint are smoother than the ones that use the spider gears. Internally, a “needle valve” mechanism is smoother than a “ball valve” for release mechanisms. You might have to look at the owners manuals of the jacks and look at the exploded replacement parts lists to see if there is a needle valve (it kind of looks more like a turnip shaped to me) or if it is a ball (a round sphere) valve. The universal vs. spider gear you can see externally.
