I can also say that "No Longer Human" was a semi-biography of Osamu's own life (from his perspective, of course), and that it is considered to be his suicide note. Jun Ito made a manga adaptation of the novel, I suggest you check it out it's really cool!

i honestly didn’t even know about this anime until a week ago but i saw aoi bungaku about a month or two ago and it made me wanna read no longer human. dazai is a very fascinating person and i honestly can say that he’s very tragic and this book HAS to be at least mostly auto-biographical. his life matched so well with the guy in the book.

I'm glad Odasaku gave Dazai a reason to live. Because Dazai was a walking empty soul (well, he is still empty but at least he now has a clearer reason to live) torn between death (his suicidal tendencies) and living (by still hoping to find his reason by joining the mafia and now protecting his town). Dazai is for me, a very good person if you're his ally, but the most dangerous if became your enemy. It shows why Mori san did what he did to Dazai back when he was a part of the Port mafia. He keeps him close but he also observes him. He knew Dazai is scary for some reason and if ever he would've a rival for the boss position, Dazai would be it. Pfffft noice 😂 I'm actually amazed at their character relationship/dynamic. They "hate" each other and we can obviously see them arguing many times throughout the series. However, they trust each other blindly. It's different from Dazai and Oda's relationship but at the same time it feels familiar. How they are able to understand each other is beyond my comprehension. Maybe Dazai were abused as little and the bandages are to cover the horrorific scars left from his past. Maybe he suffered so much that he thinks its meaningless to live but unluckily he keeps surviving. Maybe his power not only cancel special abilities but maybe also cancel his own luck, or even the power of god, And maybe god is mad for not being able to control Dazai and kills everything he loves around him and gives him a life of unfortunate things. He instantly became my favourite character in BSD. Sure, he looks good, but you can see just how broken he is and that, even though it’s sad, makes him so interesting. He is one if not the most complex character in this Manga/Anime. You know nearly nothing about him. He never shows a side were you think “that’s the real him”, because as I see it, the “real” him is just blank. Completely numb. Not evil, not good, just blank. I also like how they present him as this “funny character” with his lazy side and all the jokes. As someone who’s coping mechanism is making fun of things and joking around when the depressive episodes hit me, it makes me understand him more and the character itself even more tragic. I also think, that when the series ends, he will have the saddest ending of all the characters (if they all survive). While I see the others finding their own path, their own goals and maybe even achieving them, he will probably just wander around trying to fill the void that lives inside of him, which he maybe will never be able to fill.

What makes Osamu Dazai character very interesting is how connected it is to the real life Dazai. Osamu Dazai, is a well known author in Japan, he wrote notable works and one of those is the "No Longer Human", in the anime we all know that it his ability, and Dazai after finishing the "No Longer Human" committed a double suicide with a lady (a lover, srry forgot her name). That makes sense on why Dazai in the anime is kind of suicidal, for more stories, you can look it up on google. Also it is not only Dazai though, almost all of the characters are adapted in real notable persons in the literary world. :D

Also, I REALLLLLY recommend reading all the books featured in the show cause I just read "No Longer Human" and I looove it, currently reading "I am A Cat and it's... hard to follow but good.
