You don't wish anyone to be EATEN by a shark, but for this to happen to a child/children is truly tragic. It's horrifying to think a child's last thoughts on earth are of some MONSTER shark (as the child sees it) tearing into it and taking it away. I only can hope it was quick.

My father was part of an amphibious landing on New Guinea in WWII and what I remember about his depiction, from almost 50 years ago when he told the story was "Sharks". It's crazy, because every time you mention Melbourne, New Caledonia, New Guinea or any of the other islands relating to the 5th Army's Pacific campaign, I relate it all back to my father having to jump off the sides of the ramps of the LSTs/Landing Crafts to avoid machinegun fire and then have to deal with sharks along with the machineguns...all the way to the Philippines.

With regards to the last attack, it reminds me of a story my mom told me, about when her and my dad took me too Hawaii when i was 2. We went to Bonzaii Pipeline and my dad had taken me for a walk down the beach. For some reason we sat down on the sand, just looking at the waves. All of a sudden my dad said he saw this giant wave come in, and it engulfed us, dragging us off the beach. I can actually remember this, swirling around, tumbling over and over sucked out of my dad's arms until i feel a giant yank on my hair. That was my father reaching out blindly, trying to grab ahold of me before i was washed away. I guess the lifeguards saw this happen and ran to help. I remember crying and my father got a hold on me finally and he was crying saying he was sorry over and over again. My mother was hysterical. Thank God there were no sharks nearby or anything like that, but we all leaned our lesson that day..... The ocean is dangerous. Years later when i was near Hilo, i was snorkeling and saw a few hammerheads swimming in a group, way down by the bottom. I was with my uncle who lived there so he was able to keep me calm and we very carefully and slowly swam to shore. He said they were migrating or mating and weren't really interested in us, but since i was so scared, he thought it best to just go in. That was the last time I've ever gone in deep ocean water.

Another great show.. it’s so important that, although rare, these tragedies happen and we are responsible for the actions we take. The natural world must be respected, and the truth known, for the brutal place it can be. Putting attacks down to “accidents” or “mistaken identity” removes individual responsibility from the equation. Always a big mistake. We need the fear to stay safe!! However, these stories are particularly sad and so hard to listen to. I’m looking forward to the shark myths episode. Keep up the great work Hal 🙏

Damn. There had to be something going on that was affecting the sharks in Papua new gene because changes or effects in the environment can cause changes in shark behavior and can cause shark attack spikes. Shark attack spikes don't just happen. there's always a cause behind them. And, the 2 attacks that were just a day apart, if anyone's thinking it, no it was not a single (rogue) shark responsible for both of them. Rogue sharks don't exist. The first 2 girls had to have been attacked by bull sharks. Also Hal, you should do an episode on the shark attacks of black December at Durban South Africa in 1957. You already covered 2 black December shark attacks, like Julia Painting and Vernon Berry. why not do them all in a shark attack spike video?🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈

I have questions about the 9 month old. If the water was so turbulent, so the father lost hold of the daughter, how did they see the daughter surrounded by sharks? Humans sink before we float... and in such turbulence... idk. Either story, sounds sus. I am sad the child died. 😢 very sad. I just have questions about the situation and results. What dad doesn't try to go after his kid in turbulent water? He's already in the turbulent water. The 13 year old went after her friend in dangerous water. If he did, it wasn't mentioned in the story.

What a wild & tragic cluster of events all within the same time period at roughly the same locale. No wonder certain island tribes in that region regarded certain sharks as supernatural in nature, specifically man eaters were thought to be evil spirits or bad medicine men/witch doctors in animal form. These attacks I’d imagine would greatly fuel those beliefs & superstitions. The size of sharks involved along with circumstances & the victims, the 2 young girls & then a female infant. It’s almost unbelievable, that is unless you know how dangerous sharks can be in the right conditions.
@ASMRMark Жыл бұрын
This was a particularly gruesome batch of attacks. That dad with the 9 month old baby...My God! Horrific. Nightmarish! I feel bad for the dad, but he also infuriates me. If he wants to play Russian Roulette in the ocean, that's his business, but that baby had no say in the decision. If it had to be one of them, shoulda been the dad that got eaten.
