I think it's the algorithms. Things that are gruesome like shark attacks are probably more difficult for sponsorships or monotisation to get on board so KZbin makes less money for same views. KZbin chases that ad money, not quality content. That's why the subscriber count is less than say, cringe influencer drama.

Hal --- did I ever tell you about the first time I saw a shark? I was about 9 years old and was sailing with a friend's family on their 30ft Newport sailboat, the first time on a sailboat, and we left Marina Del Rey to sail to Paradise Bay in Malibu. Just a nice day to swim and enjoy the ocean. About halfway into the trip, maybe 45 mins of sailing, the bow was dipping down close to the water from the small waves and the older brother of my friend says he sees a couple of fins and he steers the boat in the direction of the fins. Myself and my friend are standing on the bow holding onto the rail as we got closer, thinking it was a couple of sharks, and not too concerned, it turns out to be one large, very large, hammerhead. That thing must have been at least 15ft because it was at least half the length of the boat or more. It scared me and my friend so bad that we moved off the bow and to the mast, being that was the furthest from the water of any part of the boat. It was so scary. This was maybe two or three years before the book and movie Jaws came out. It was also around the same time that another friend's dad died from being bitten by a shark. Which you already talked about on a video about a year ago. Being that I grew up and lived most of my life about a mile or less from the ocean, friends, neighbors, family and myself did plenty of shark fishing throughout the years, and I've found baby sharks on the beach, etc... but seeing that hammerhead the first time scared me to death. It still is a very scary memory. I've even snorkeled in the kelp beds with a spear gun a few times and it always scared me thinking that I'm looking for fish to catch and eat and that there are bigger fish looking in those kelp beds for the same big fish I'm looking for that may decide it wants me.

I'm on the coast of Maine and have gone out on friend's lobster boats and sailboats. Just reading this makes my heart pound. We've come up along whales while I've been in the boat but I myself haven't seen a shark in the boat... in the ocean. Seen them plenty of times in Atlantis, Bahamas, at the Boston Aquarium and other places but not on the open ocean.

Sharks can bite even when dead, Snakes have been known to still be able to invenomate even after having their heads cut off and some Snakes survive by pretending to be dead until the danger to them has passed and then they miraculously come back to life and move off, as long as they are left alone. Thanks for putting a realistic perspective on Sharks and one of the few who doesn't automatically vilify them. Having dived for over 20 yrs (no longer though) l never really had any problems with Tiger sharks, but through experience l was Always cautious of Great Whites and Bull Sharks. Have a friend who worked on a fishing party boat that does trips daily. They have to throw fish carcasses 2 miles out by law. One day while dumping carcasses a big wave came over and water went into a bucket he was holding and took him over. He fell head first right into a feeding frenzy of about every fish in sea including lots of sharks. He said he was covered in blood but someone was picked out of water without being bit by anything. It traumatized him so bad he never worked on the boat again. He is anemic so any bite would not have been good.

I watched a clip today,where a guy was fishing from a unicorn pool float. He hooked a bronze whaler,the boat that made the video,pulled him out of the water onto their boat. He was 1 1/2 to 2 miles from shore when they found him. He said he hooked it like 60 feet from shore. To top it off ,the float had a leak,which he wrapped fishing line around to stop it. They got the shark to the surface and cut the line. That shark was 2 meters maybe 2 1/2. This would make a good what were you thinking LOL

Hi Hal. Great show. Next year, May, I'm going snorkeling with the sharks. Maybe I'll be in 'She's an Idiot ' or 'What were you thinking? ' Lol!! Nah, it's safe where I'm going. Smaller sharks. Not the Big 3. Would love to see a Bull Shark tho. Done the cage thing. Saw a 10ft GW. He mock charged us. Was so cute! Didn't see any other sharks tho. The Orcas are killing sharks for their livers. A delicacy in Orca world. No need to cull sharks, the Orcas are doing it . Seventeen GWs in one day. That we know of. So very sad. Oh, unrelated topic...... there was a 5hr long Orca attack . On 2 whales. They survived, but badly injured.
@rottweilerfun9520 Жыл бұрын
They ended up killing 19 sharks that day , they weren't Great Whites though. They were 7 gill sharks from the reports that I read. They Great Whites vacated the area some time back and the 7 gill sharks moved in . That's a lot of liver to eat in one day , even for two huge Orca males. I would imagine that Port and Starboard belong to a pod and they're the designated shark killers since the males are the largest. Their mothers should be around there , the males are usually very strongly bonded to their mothers. Oftentimes when their mothers die the male Orcas die soon after. Their bonds within the pod are incredible. The part of the brain that deal with closeness and relationships is much more developed in Orcas than it is in humans. I read one scientific paper that said that for all intents and purposes an Orca pod is pretty much one giant organism made up of multiple parts. You can kind of see that in how they breathe , it's almost simultaneous in the whole pod. If only we could communicate with them and understand their languages. There are teams working on that using Artificial Intelligence. Orcas fascinate me , ever since I was a four year old and saw them in the wild in California. They're truly magnificent creatures. Sperm Whales are also super interesting. I hate that we were ever so cruel to whales and hate the people who still are. There's no acceptable reason to hunt whales, period. I saw that about the Orca attack on the two whales. They sure did fight hard for their lives. I love whales and Orcas both , I wish that Orcas didn't prey on whales but I get it , they need the food.

@@rottweilerfun9520 Thank you for that interesting comment. You seem to be quite knowledgeable on the subject. Yes, it's very upsetting about whales. And places like SeaWorld keeping Orcas in captivity to perform tricks to entertain ppl is terrible. Tiny tanks. I understand that twice have Orcas killed themselves by banging their heads against the glass. And now knowing from you that their bonds are more developed than humans (which are very strong) totally devastates me. We should know better.
