I just got off the water with it......oooof.....legit rought time....as someone who throws a handful of wind knots per decade. I threw more today than I have in my entire life...sometimes back to back and two at a time. Caught a bunch of fish on it though....and it's pretty much dead...had to dunk it to keep it running.....

Your drag stack is in wrong. The keyed metal washer should be on top no the eared metal washer. If you fish with it the way you put it back together the drag will tighten when/if you have a fish on and its pulling drag. Pro tip ; )

recently bought a sougayilang DX1000 spinning reel for $4 with a coupon code. it's actually not bad once you lube it up. definitely much better than this crap. although, at 'regular' price of $20, i'd much rather wait for a shimano sienna which goes on sale for about the same regular pcie as the sougayilang DX.

I know Denny has been fishing one...he's in your neck of the woods. Grindy would be a fair assessment. Similar almost to what you get out of a van staal. But they are rock solid.

Tackle Advisors Yep, he’s definitely popular at the pier lol. The reel looks durable, and the style reminds me of Accurate’s Twin-spin. I honestly wouldn’t buy one of those over other $500+ reels, but it seems like a great workhorse commercial coffee grinder for blues, jacks, etc etc.

I've worked on a few of his reels a few years ago. Dude punishes gear. I think he's a good litmus test on products. Not many people are going to put that kind of poundage on a product. As it exposes lots of faults. I think if my memory serves me correctly someone from the old penn team was involved in the design..(might be misremembering as it was a few years ago when they started showing up) For me as someone in the northeast who has the opportunity to play out my fish without fear of getting sharked or groupered. I prefer one of the more refined reels. Or one that while grindy is fully sealed.

It's the first time I see an oscillation system like that on a spinning reel. Do you think it may work for somebody who wants to try fishing for the first time? Because you never know if fishing it's gonna be your thing or not, so a very inexpensive reel can be a good starting. Pura Vida, Costa Rica!

This reel as a starter would make the introduction a frustrating experience. With tempered expectations due to price. It's awful with braid and throws wind knots quite often (in 20 years I threw 10 wind knots.. I threw 10 today with it. Manually closing the bail and pretensioning the line. Go with one of the 15 or 20$ options and you'll solve all headaches

The problem with returning this reel is .....it's mailed from a drop shipper somewhere in the U.S. and the return address is in CHINA. Ebay requires a return verification signature when returning products. Check out the cost of a return signature from CHINA. It will cost about $80.00 for an $8.00 product.

I know I'm 3 years too late - BUT - you are making the classic mistake. You need to think like a Chinese Marketing Executive. "Aluminum Spool" refers to the *color* of the spool. And, if you check that bearing, I think you will find that it does, in fact, contain at least 3 balls.

The only kastking reel I own is the mela 2000 paid $25 it is still going strong after 2 years of hard use. Caught thousands of bluegill,crappie,bass, trout I grease an oil every month. It had carbontex drag inside which cost $11 so I put in my better reels. Almost dont use my pflueger or Lew's reels though waiting for this one to go bad which is taking forever. China stuff is not always trash look at the pflueger trion an presidents people have them for years an still sell for almost retail new

There are big name brands that are made in china but the difference is brands like shimano and daiwa have quality standards that are upheld even when assembled in china. So being "made in china" is different for every brand because companies that rely on high quality (like shimano) demand that the chinese are held to those standards. Whereas a company like kastking, seaknight etc just tell the chinese to mass produce them at a low cost.

Actually if that pinion bearing was a bushing you would have a reel that would last for decades. With that foolproof A/R you have a reel that doesn't need all the seals that manufacturers are salivating over.

Somehow these Asian companies can get away with false product representation. I bought a Burning Shark baitcaster for $21 that claims to have 12 bearings. No way! Maybe 2. I took the reel handle side apart.. none there. Almost couldn't get it working again after that so left the brake side alone. It does work though.
