Veterinarian here: cannot emphasize how dangerous fireflies are to bearded dragons. They’re toxic to the heart. One single firefly will kill a bearded dragon in two hours. Most don’t even make it to the hospital. I’ve only seen one survive.

I just acquired a bearded dragon. He wasn't in the best shape when I got him. I ended up syringing water into his mouth every morning. Now he has everything he needs, his energy and weight is up but he's whacking the syringe with his head. How much water does a bearded dragon need every day? How do you do it? I do give him a variety of fruits and vegetable (no citrus) and am finding out what he likes. I also have a water bowl but he doesn't seem to care about it. All answers appreciated. Thanks.

Just an FYI from a beekeeper that on the regular uses OA for mite control. OA is naturally produced in literally every plant that exists. Kale, spinach, and other "Greens" naturally produce this bug retardant.

Hi Elle! I'm a subscriber and I really love your videos! I just had a little question - is broccoli okay for bearded dragons? I'm getting a beardie this coming week and just wanted to confirm whether this food is ok. I plan on feeding him/her carrot, broccoli, parsley, crickets, soft juvenile ExoTerra pellets, calcium powder (every second day) , blueberries, blackberries and grapes (once a week for all three). Are all these foods safe and is anything else required? I've also noticed that multivitamins are required - I live in NSW, Australia, and have some difficulty finding the right multivitamin. Herptivite seems really popular but unfortunately I can't find it in my area, and shipping takes about 2 months (eek 😬). Sorry, I'm really rambling now, if anyone could just give me some tips that would be REALLY appreciated! Thank you so much and keep making awesome content! I'd also really appreciate if anyone else has an answer!

What about feeding citrus to their feeder buggos? I don't have any reptiles at the moment but I do have small dubia colony, and since I'm not feeding them to anyone at the moment I'm letting them try just about everything. Clementines are their absolute, hands-down favorite, but I've heard that because reptiles should avoid citric acid, their feeder insects should avoid it too. Is that the case?

Exactly that - a hammerhead worm. They're invasive here, and they actually produce the same neurotoxin that a pufferfish does 😳 I think they also eat all of the other worms, like earthworms 😬

We are Vegan, I was wondering can I totally skip the bugs for our bearded dragon im planning on getting soon.?
@ellesreptiles2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. As a baby, 80% of their diet needs to consist of live, gutloaded insects. Without this, they cannot properly grow. As they get older, it lowers to only 20%, but they still have to have bugs. But there are many other reptiles who only eat veggies! 😊 There's the uromasyx, chuckwallas, iguanas, tortoises, and the soloman island skink, to name a few.

Hi I am a beginner of bearded dragon. I got her at September 10 at pet smart. However for the past week she barley eat. She stopped eating vegetables or fruits, only live insects that are put closed to her mouth. Even if the live insects are in her bowl, she only look at them but won’t move. In the beginning, only her right hand was shaking, but now all her limbs are weak. So I bring her to the hospital, the blood test shows that she have chronic kidney failure. Is it still possible to save her, the doctor said it only have a little chance to cure her if she is lucky that she get infection. But she is so young so it is not possible for her. Anyone who know something please help me! I really don’t want her to leave. Thank you guys!

What makes the mushrooms and avocado more dangerous is they have high oxalate in addition to very high phosphorus levels. But I agree about spinach too! I always strongly urge against feeding spinach at all for that reason. ♥️

No, dust his insects with vitamin D3 and get a decent UVB bulb for the top of his enclosure.

I would also suggest some natural sun. I have a small cage I put my Kaida in & will let get some sun on those not so hot days. Careful not to put your BD in a glass tank cuz that gets super heated quick. Natural sunlight helps w/vitamin D in BD's & humans as well.

I enjoy these videos but its difficult to find the correct foods when people use very americanized words for things that dont translate well. For example Collard greens translated would include the family of Kale. Other than Cabbage I only get Kale as a result. I've been trying to do what's right for my bearded dragon but now I feel like im simply failing him because its harder to get a hold of so many things in different countries.
@ellesreptiles2 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that! Living in America, I'm of course most familiar with the terms we use. I Googled it, and it looks like in other countries they're called Spring Greens, Borekale, and/or Colewort. I'm not sure if that helps? 😅
@NaomasDarkSide2 жыл бұрын
@@ellesreptiles that's alright, I just feel like it's impossible to find a good middle ground with all the good reptile channels being in America. I am trying to get into the hobby, snakes are proving much easier than my dragon. Haha Thank you though that is helpful. I will try to see if any of that is available in the markets here. Keep up the great videos❤️

@BLHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Humans need to put this much effort into their own diets as they do their pet reptile....lol. TRUTH. THe best thing you can do is keep to the beardies natural habitat diet. The one thing I see in just about every beardie video is people try to over anal-yze everything. If you are new to reptiles take everything you hear with a grain of salt and don't freak out.
@ellesreptiles2 жыл бұрын
Haha I mean, I definitely care a lot about the foods I put into my body, and as someone with kids with life or death food allergies - effort definitely goes into diets in my house 🙃 For the most part though, I completely agree about not freaking out! 😊 It's all about finding what works best for your beardie and your home. With that being said though, fireflies, mushrooms, and Avocados are definitely not "take it with a grain of salt" suggestions, they can (and have) killed bearded dragons 😅. A quick Google search (just to be sure everything's safe) when someone is about to offer new foods to their bearded dragon is all that's really needed. ♥️
