Look at about 50 seconds into the video, she mentions how at a young age they require more protein (insects) than the vegetables/salad. Young bearded dragons can eat all the same things but require a lot smaller sized insects as well as being fed them more.

I’ve been so fortunate that my dragons have always *loved* salad. They were the first reptile I kept outside of an already established tortoise and I was terrified of messing everything up. Oddly, while they would eat greens, my little boy was on a veritable hunger strike with bugs for about the first six months o had him he literally would eat like 2 crickets or 1 dubia a week, if I was lucky. Now he shovels it in hand over fist.

@youreinvalid84932 жыл бұрын
They're called superworms and they're not a good staple food, meaning that shouldn't be what you mostly feed him. He is over a year, so his diet should be mostly green and vegetables. Superworms are very fatty and their exoskeleton can cause impaction if fed in large amounts. Dubai Roaches, gut loaded crickets or horn worms are better option.

My 6 month old female is not a fan of any fruits so far. She loves greens and insects though.
@blueclownman3122 жыл бұрын
Most fruits are high in acidity. Too much fruit can cause gut problems. My bearded loves fruit (literally anything sweet he'll eat) but I learned quick it needs to be a treat/rarely fed and nothing more. He got sick, not because he ate the wrong thing, I just fed him too much fruit thinking it was good for him (diarrhea, constipation, effecting his shedding, you name it. He didn't have fun for about a month). Having a real plant that grows, that your lizard can munch on whenever, is never a bad decision. Having a real plant that they can eat whenever was a life changer. It doesn't have to be huge and you can get leafy greens that grow fast and low maintenance fairly easy. My beardy doesn't have the best enclosure (hopefully will change soon) but just having a potted green plant in the enclosure helped a bunch. He's transitioning from very small to a young adult. He is still under 1 year, so lots of bugs still, but we are transitioning to more greens. Have a source of greens for them 24/7. Helps with hydration, gets them more used to veggies, greens, and fruits.
@valeriebakalets83714 жыл бұрын
This video is so helpful! Thank you so much! I have one question, how many times a day do you feed adults? And also, how many times a day do you feed a baby beardie? I really want to get a bearded dragon and want to make sure I feed mine properly and care for mine properly.
@Cryptid_nj3 жыл бұрын
If your bearded dragon has MBD(metabolic bone disease) please make sure that you’re giving him proper succulents because they do need calcium with D3 because it’s mainly caused from lack of UVB and you have to watch what vegetables and fruit you can give them because they’re cant have certain ones
@youreinvalid84932 жыл бұрын
Their body produces D3. They don't need calcium with it. Otherwise they can have too much in their body.

Loved this video! I did notice you mentioned something throughout the video and wanted to let you know. Botanically, tomato, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, and pumpkin etc. are actually fruits! (If it has seeds, it’s a fruit. If it had no seeds, it’s a vegetable!) I think when it comes to fruit you just want to avoid giving your beardie too much citrusy fruits.

Should I use supplement? Because I don't and my dragon is pretty healthy, and should I take him to a vet? My area doesn't have any reptile vets. Also how big should my cage be? My lizard is 1 foot 8 inches long. Also, how many times a day should I feed him, cause i've been doing two a day. And when should I give him a special salad.

use a sprinkle powder of vitamins like said in the video. search for exotic vets near you and make sure that the main vet that will be seeing your beardie specializes in reptiles because many people are very ignorant on reptiles, your beardie should go for at least just a yearly checkup just like humans. you should get a large cage... mine is 36x18x12 with front opening doors.just put a salad in there once a day and maybe once or twice a month do a special salad. sorry its been a month since you posted this but in case you haven't gotten the info yet...~kay
