I am horrible at spotting continuity or other mistakes in shows and movies but in one episode of this show there was one that no Army or Marine vet should have missed. In the episode where the Admiral was about to start a war with the PRC they had a Marine Officer with a device on his uniform no Marine would wear at least on the left shoulder, it was the Division patch of the U.S. Army's 9th Infantry Division. He should have had the patch for the Fleet Marines if that even exist, the patch that is. Left shoulder is current unit in Army Right shoulder is unit you went to combat with as for Marines I do not know but had three Prior Service Marines in one of my units and do not recall them wearing any unit patch on the right. All three had served with the Corp in Nam.

"Cover Up" was notorious for inefficiency and production delays. During one such delay, Hexum joked, "You gotta kill yourself to get something done around here!" He had a gun loaded with blanks, which he assumed would be harmless. It wasn't. Hexum aimed at his own head and fired the blank. Definitely didn't miss nor forget any of these shows! I saw Time Trax (my Dad was a fan of it as well) but I remembered star Dale Midkiff from his role as Elvis on a short lived TV series about Elvis' early years as a truck driver and aspiring musician. LOVED Voyagers! I always thought even as a kid that the show was given the short shrift unnecessarily. Some fans thought this show might have done better if it ran on Saturday mornings after the cartoons but before shows like American Bandstand. Hard to say, but this show deserved more than it got. Losing Hexum was even worse, even though he died while working on his next series, "Cover Up". I often wonder what kind of work he could have done had he not died when he did. Rumor at the time was that he was in line for big things - possibly in big screen films. Loved 7 Days! Both Dad and I were fans! It still gets repeated from time to time on SyFy or Comet so you never know if it will turn up again. There was a rumor that if the show had lasted into 2001, they wouldn't have been able to explain how 9/11 happened if such technology existed [in the show] since a tragedy like that was up the show's alley. My only disappointment with the show was that Parker's backup never got a chance to use the sphere! LOVED Journeyman and as usual Dad was with me for that too! I thought it had it's own charms compared with similar premises and there was supposed to be a reason why he and his ex fiancee were time traveling to save those people. It was stated that there were people manipulating them because the people they saved ultimately would lead to something special. Sometimes I think "The Time Traveler's Wife" was an inspiration from the show. At least it was nice that his wife was aware of the odd things happening and trying to help. I've been catching reruns of Time Tunnel on cable and it's an enjoyable show, and I definitely wished it lasted longer. I always thought the soundstage showing the tunnel was exactly as designed on paper and it was a testament to Irwin Allen to make something so impressive for TV!! I was just bummed out that we never got an episode in which the guys go home for good!

One time travel show I really liked was called That Was Then. It was about a guy who would go back in time every time he heard a song and he would return to the present if he heard the song in the past. It was canceled after two episodes, but I thought the concept was interesting enough that the show has always stuck in my mind.

One of the few times I’ve seen all the shows, albeit, I haven’t seen much of Time Tunnel since I was a toddler. I still remember the cherry blossoms of the Pearl Harbor episode.

Never heard of the first one but it sounds like something I would have watched. I used to watch Time Tunnel (still remember the theme song) and Voyagers (with the beautiful Jon Erik-Hexum).

7 Days was great. Never got bored of that show.

I would question your calling Friday night in the 1960s the "death slot" as many long-running shows were in that time period. Name of the Game, the Odd Couple, Love American Style, Hogan's Heroes, Brady Bunch, and Room 222 were all Friday Night staples back then. Times did change, I agree, but at this time the networks still had strong viewership on Fridays. Great post, as usual. Some of these were my favorites and others I have never heard of. Keep up your great work.

Those shows were non-genre (sci-fi/horror/fantasy) shows, and they normally do well. When it comes to genre shows, Fridays nights were a death slot because the targeted audience was out at a dance club, concert, movie theater or bar. "The X-Files" ended the curse of the genre show on a Friday night.

Time Travel is one of my favorite Sci-fi plot devices. 1. Time Trax Yep Remember it. Liked it. 2. 7 DAys. Absolutely LOVED it. So very upset when it was cancelled. 3. The Time Tunnel. A little before my time but as a kid I saw some reruns. 4. Voyagers! Another fave series that ended way way too early. 5. Journey Man. Not sure. I heard of it but I don't think I saw any of it.

Wow. I'm actually familiar with four out of five of these. I think it says more about my taste in TV than it does the shows themselves.

And that there wasn't a lot of "genre" TV at the time, so nerds like me would watch anything that was even vaguely sci-fi.
@Madbandit77 Жыл бұрын
@@CantankerousDave With the exception of syndication and cable, genre TV shows were destined to die on the then Big Three Networks because they were too smart, silly or weird. Sure, there's "Bewitched", "The Munsters", "The Addams Family", "My Favorite Martian", "I Dream Of Jeanie", "The Flying Nun", "Mork & Mindy" and "Alf", but they were sitcoms.

Wow....definitely stumped on all of those, except, maybe TimeTrax. My mind wiggled a little with that one, but the rest were unknown, for sure. I'm a little surprised since the early 80's shows really should have caught my attention!

I like Time Trax. The DVDs from Warner Archive were welcomed after not seeing the show for a long time. The end of the second season was good and it sure could’ve led to a third season.

Another show filmed in QLD Australia, there were a whole bunch of US show filmed there in the 90’s. one example is Space above and beyond.

Time Trax was awesome. I only got to see a smattering of episodes as such was the nature of TV back in the day. I remember the episodes were smart and fun and the cast was great. I loved Voyagers when I was a kid and watched the reruns which I think were on Saturdays after cartoons. My older brother hated it. I rented the DVDs about a decade ago and watched the whole series and I learned why he hated it. The stories were pretty much standard fair, tons of stock footage from old movies, and there were even some glaring editing mistakes.

Great reviews. Voyagers! Was and still is my jam! 😅 Since i saw it on the original sci fi channel back in 1993. I also loved Time Trax and all those “off the big 3” shows, we also called them “Syndicated Shows.” Lol I need to go back and watch 7 Days. It passed by me. I will look 👀 around for the eps.

I watched Time Trax. I was going to call you out for not mentioning Mia Sara but I looked it up and she was in only like 2 episodes. For some reason I remember her being a series regular. Maybe her being in Timecop as well is messing with my memory.

The thumbnail ... 7 days? That was a great one. Its the show that prompted me to actually learn the name of Alan Scarfee, instead of just thinking of him as a "that guy" always showing up in shows i watched.

Sci-fi had a hard row to hoe back in the day. All those old men in charge of Hollywood who lived during the Great Depression seemed to hate sci-fi. I saw it in my grand parents. One grandfather took me to task for reading books, "about a bunch of made up stuff." They thought that the only thing the public wanted to see was westerns. Always another version of Bonanza. Gene Roddenberry had to sell Star Trek as "Wagon Train in space." And how about "Wild Wild West", that's a sci-fi show if there ever was one.

"The X-Files" thankfully changed things.

Thankfully the X-Files had one of the major higher ups at Fox loved the show and believed in it. It was almost cancelled numerous times but he refused to let that happen. Makes you wonder how many shows would have become major hits if the networks actually let them find their audience and grow. Remember, Seinfield was a massive flop in the beginning and it went on to be the biggest sitcom of all time.

I enjoyed the first three PTEN shows. I remember Seven Days commercials but never watched the show. The Time Tunnel I got into thanks to the Sci Fi Series Collection back when Sy Fy was The Sci fi Channel. Voyagers is one of those shows I constantly confuse with Otherworld and Shazam!, which I mash them up in my mind as one show. I still miss Journey Man because I wanted to find out more about Moon Bloodgood's character. Seeing those show make me appreciate that Timeless got to finish its story.
